The Dreaming Death storyline.

Thanks for this, Carl. I had not seen it before. Richard Hankins, the art director, was Kassie Wesley's first husband. I had forgotten about David Dangle, the costume designer. He went over to design for Joan Rivers. I wonder if he and Sam Byrd are still together. What a blast from the past. Do you think he would feel that LaZimmer looks good in anything now?

Quint & Nola are my second favorite soap couple ever and I agree that it took away something when Quint's air of mystery was removed. Didn't like it when they moved out of the quirky mansion on Thornway Road and into a house with Henry, Vanessa, & Billy. Nolaerobics was terrible, as was Quint becoming a professor and Quint & Nola taking in that obnoxious boy (I think his name was Jonathan).

Those clips are starting to go up on Youtube (the Jonathan story) and they write Nola as so OTT with a crowbar, trying to open boxes, she seems to be channeling Janet Green. The scenes are so strange. I think they just saw Nola as "wacky" when generally I'd say Lisa Brown does better with dryer comedy. Having Quint and Nola stand in front of a huge fake computer isn't the way to go.

I do like the brief scene where he's showing her how to use a computer. Ahead of its time I guess.

I didn't realize that was Kassie's husband - I remember seeing them in some photos but didn't make the connection there and in this behind the scenes video.

I guess some of the garish outfits on GL at this time would be a good fit for the Joan Rivers of this era.

It was nice to get a backstage look at GL here, since this was right around the time the show started going nuts.

I still can't believe Kristi Ferrell auditioned for India. I wish there was a video of that.

I agree, previously Nola had been quirky and did have a few off-the-wall moments (especially with her friend Gracie)but she had not been slapstick like this. It definitely didn't fit Quint's persona. Still, I think I would have continued to watch them if they had stayed. I gradually started losing interest in the show after they left.

I think Lisa Brown was good with comedy and yea, the only thing that Long and Co could see them doing was Lucy with the stiff professor. I do think that Quint had a short shelf life after the gothic stuff went away. It was good to have Nola happy for a little while but then they should have killed him off and had Nola grow up a bit. A less bitter, but still more grown up Nola would have been cool to see on her return under McTrash but that didnt happen.

I think they were trying to do a spin on Q & N's old mystery stuff with the Jonathon thing, and to put what they thought was a "funny," spin. I don't know why they didnt have Nola and Quint involved with the cabin mystery which was going strong at this time. They should have had Nola get pissed off at Vanessa, find the cottage, move into it and then the spooky stuff starting happening, (with the added twist that no one would believe her but the house would have really been haunted.) They could have brought Tony and Annabell in with Annabell being psychic etc.

I wonder if Long was just intimidated by Quint/Nola, especially Nola. The writing for Nola in this clip is frankly bizarre and I'm not even sure if it fits anything the character had been. Would she really be upset about a kid not swimming and going on picnics?

This is just a strange story in general although better casting of the child actor would have helped.

At least Long tried to write for Nola/Quint... and she got Nola better then Mctavish and the other writing team. I noticed that within several months of Long's arrival that Amanda/Morgan/Jennifer/Kelly/Hope/Justin/Helena were all written off the show. It was like if they didn't fit into her idea of a Texas based show then they wouldn't kept on. That's the impression I got from the characters chosen to be written off... granted the argument could have been made that the character's ran their course but I disagree. There was lots of fall out with Amanda/Morgan/Jennifer after that one con artist dude was killed... plus Justin just left somewhat after the paternity secret was revealed.. not understanding why when years of story could have been generated.

I think Morgan left by the choice of the actress, but most of the others were let go. It has never made sense to me why they fired Tom O'Rourke, a good actor and a very handsome man who had ties to everyone. I think Long and Kobe just felt ashamed of Springfield's makeup.

They also put poor Trish down to a minor role after using her to bring in the Lewises, then when she was gone, Vanessa had to replace her as the "normal" (ie, barely existent) Lewis, which caused Maeve Kinkead to quit.

It all comes down to this: GL's ratings fell after Douglas Marland left, and either CBS or P&G (or both) blamed that on the actors and characters who'd been front-burner during that time rather than the fact that the stories were just too confusing for audiences to follow.

Even after Quint and Nola's stories had begun to get a little...silly, I still loved the duo. Lisa Brown and Michael Tylo's chemistry was just that magical to me. In fact, the only couple who comes close to rivaling them for my affections are AMC's Greg and Jenny. Having said that, though, if GL had chosen to do right by the characters and kill off Quint before they had had the chance to "ruin" either him or Nola...? Well, I won't lie. I would've hated it, probably. But, then again, at least the beauty and purity of their early romance would have remained intact.

    • There is suffering everywhere you look, says mother of emaciated baby girl trapped in Gaza https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/czrv5rl73zdo Quoting excerpts from BBC article: The baby's mother Najwa, 23, is changing Siwar's nappy. She weighs just over 2kg (4lb 6oz). A baby girl of five months should be around or over 6kg. "There was no food when I gave birth to her," says Najwa. "If I wanted to feed myself so I could breastfeed her, I had no nutrients to make my health better... She now only drinks formula milk, and we don't know how we'll be able to provide it for her." Israel has banned international journalists from entering Gaza to report independently. According to Siwar's doctor, Ziad al-Majaida, "Nothing enters through the borders, no milk, food or anything. This leads to big problems here for the kids. This baby needs a specific type of milk. It was available before, but because of the border closure, the stocks have run out for a while now." Since the beginning of the year, according to the UN, about 10,000 cases of acute malnutrition among children have been identified. Food prices have rocketed by as much as 1,400%. Charity kitchens, which have helped hundreds of thousands of Gazans, are shutting as food supplies run out. Twenty-five bakeries supported by the World Food Programme have been forced to close. Israel cut off all humanitarian aid and other supplies from entering Gaza on 2 March, and resumed its military offensive two weeks later The United Nations has said the Israeli blockade constitutes "a cruel collective punishment" on civilians. The UN's humanitarian director, former British diplomat Tom Fletcher, said that international law was unequivocal. "As the occupying power, Israel must allow humanitarian support in... Aid, and the civilian lives it saves, should never be a bargaining chip," he warned. From the BBC reporter: I put this point to Boaz Bismuth, a leading member of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's Likud party. He (Bismuth) denies there is an aid crisis caused by the blockade. "There is food in Gaza... Israel wouldn't do such a restriction if the population didn't have food. I mean, I know my country perfectly well," he (Bismuth) said. BBC reporter: I put it to Bismuth that he was denying the evidence of people's eyes, that children were starving. "There are not starving children. I repeat again." He (Bismuth) said that there had been allegations months ago of famine, ethnic cleansing and genocide in Gaza "which was crap". ----  ----  ---- A UK-based advocacy group for Israel has the nerve to claim war may reduce obesity in Gaza https://www.theguardian.com/world/2025/may/10/uk-lawyers-for-israel-condemned-over-claim-war-may-reduce-obesity-in-gaza
    • Joel Crothers would have been perfect as Owen (maybe because Margo wasn't too far off Denise). A shame he couldn't have played a dual role. Eliot did have more room to grow. I wonder if whatever allegedly happened with Denny Albee played a part in both their exits.

    • I remember Evie's last scene and it was in Justin Marler's house and she is telling them that Ben is asking for a reconciliation and she is going to join him. I always have wondered what Janet Grey did after leaving Guiding Light (I know from the interview with Kathleen Cullen that she did have a baby and they stayed in touch for awhile).
    • https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/may/11/trump-accept-luxury-plane-gift-qatar Donald Trump is reportedly ready to accept a luxury plane described to be a “palace in the sky” being offered to the US president as a gift from Qatar’s royal family, almost immediately igniting accusations of bribery and corruption as well as commensurate criticism. citing multiple sources familiar with the matter, ABC reported (link) that the Trump administration was preparing to accept a luxury Boeing 747-8, a jumbo jet from the Qatari royals that was estimated to be about $400m. Trump would then use the 13-year-old plane as the new Air Force One until shortly before the conclusion of his second Oval Office stint, at which point it would be transferred to his presidential library foundation no later than 1 January 2029. The luxury gift from Qatar is expected to be announced next week during Trump’s three-day tour of the Middle East that includes Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, ABC reported. Trump toured the opulent plane in February while it was parked at the West Palm Beach international airport, ABC added. According to ABC’s sources, Trump’s attorney general Pam Bondi and his top White House lawyer David Warrington have pre-emptively concluded that it is “legally permissible” for Trump to accept the luxury gift and then transfer it over to his presidential library.
    • Yeah I’m confused how wearing baggier clothing wouldn’t just make him even smaller. I have no problem with his fashion at all. He’s a well put together man.
    • The problem is that foyer doesn't look like it has ANY connection to that garbage glitter trash living room at Bill and Hayley's. I have to disagree strongly with both of you on Andre's wardrobe. I like it -- a lot. I don't think anything about it is dated, but that he looks like a guy who cares about fashion. Andre is a short king, but I don't want to see him lost in baggy clothes or chunky sweaters.
