You're welcome! happy.png I definitely miss this site!

The interesting twist about those two ads is just over a year later it would be Alan-Michael and Blake getting married instead.

I still miss it.

I'm glad we're getting some 1981 videos, although I wonder why there aren't any 1980.

DRW50,

What WLSV is putting up from 1981 is what was on one of the last GL DVD sets made by Soap Classics, which was "The Trial of Jennifer Richards" set which had 10 consecutive episodes from 1981 - now OOP/deleted. The Christmas episodes from 1979 and 1980 which have also been posted by WLSV are - I suspect - episodes which were to part of a "Guiding Light" Christmas compilation which never came to pass. I don't know if they have access to any other material from GL. I might be wrong though, seeing as a lot of the 1979/1980 ATWT material currently up on YT is also being posted by them.

Thanks. So the current material is on DVD? I own the DVD but haven't watched most of it yet.

You may be right, although they've been uploading so much late 79/early 80 ATWT, I just assumed they had that of GL too.

Yes - the videos being posted on YT concerning Jennifer Richards imprisoned and Mike Bauer trying to get her another trial are from that DVD set (along with Ed and Rita marital problems, Amanda losing her baby, Elizabeth preparing to leave, Hope talking with Elizabeth about Alan, etc.).

These are my recaps for the May 30th and May 31st 1994 shows. The first one features the climax of the Pauly Hardman story along with Sprinfield's Memorial Day activities including a trifle between Eleni and Jenna and too much Tangie Hill. The second one revolves around the Peter custody battle in court:

Most of Springfield sits at the Diner waiting for the Memorial Day Festivities to begin. Roger enters and notices Bridget sitting with Ed, Eve, Fletch, Alex and others. Eve tells a stinker of a joke that gets a few laughs. Roger asks an annoyed Bridget if she is truly prepared for the custody hearing that happens tomorrow. Enter Jenna. She tells Frank she is looking for Buzz. Frank gives her an unfriendly reception and quizzes her about the whereabouts of his father. Jenna denies knowing where Buzz is or about his troubles.

Flash to a knife wielding Pauly who has Nadine in a headlock in her bedroom. Blake is trying to help. Pauly screams at Blake saying he knows she recorded him, but Blake, quite unconvincingly denies it. However Pauly smartly doesn't believe her. He angrily trashes the room looking for a recording device. Nadine tells Blake to call the cops. "He's not going to hurt me." She says. This 'causesPauly to freak some more. He accuses his "Deenie" of setting him up: Playing with him and making him look like a fool so he would propose to her. Suddenly Buzz jumps out of the wardrobe closet and pounces on Pauly. Buzz wrestles Pauly for the knife. Blake goes for the taperecorder while Nadine dives for the phone. Pauly breaks free and cuts the phone line. He grabs the tape from Blake. Nadine tries despartely to subdue Pauly by beating him with her purse but fends her off with a skillful lunge at her and destroys the tape. "So much for your evidence" He scoffs! Buzz then jumps on Pauly again and beats the crap out of him.
Vannessa is in the Lewis attic where Nadine once held Bridget and is reading Ross' court notes. She imagines Bridget answering the questions new hotshot lawyer Sid Dickerson will be asking her. She learns that Bridget blames no one for her situation and how she tried to make the best of her difficult situation. She pictures a preggers Bridget in the lewis attic singing to her unborn child:
"I've got a GUIDING LIGHT. I'm gonna let it shine..." (la, la)
(THIS was a total total cheese-ball moment.
I wonder how Melissa did it with a straight face)
Vannessa remains in deep thought looking saddened and terrified.
Back at the diner, Roger meets up with David Grant and tries, unsuccessfully to schmooz David. asks him why the suddeninterest in the guy he tried to lock up and throw away the key. Roger says he's interested in doing a follow up story: "Young man overcome by adversity-makes good". David reminds Roger of his family background with Charles, Vivian, and Gilly as succesful family members. Roger explains he's trying to be nice because of Bridget. Roger then pays for Ed and Eve's lunch much for their amusement. Enter Alex, who has witnesses the course of events and can'tresist jabbing Roger with a few. She points out that Roger is only on his best behavior when one of his kin is involved. Roger gives her a snarl and she is on her way. Rog makes his way to Leo who is prepping Bridget. Frank asks Lucy to run the music for the fireworks. She accepts. Enter Jenna who asks the dynamic duo about Buzz' medal of honor. Frank goes through the war hero spiele.
Back at Nadine's Buzz has Pauly in a headlock. Pauly tells Nadine that he stole the money for her, to give her groovystuff, just like Buzz took his for Jenna. He asks how she can forgive Buzz and not him. Afterall, they are one and the same. Buzz grunts some more. Pauly vows to take him down with him. Thisscares Nadine. She says they should let Pauly go and run. But Buzz refuses. "I know whose fault is really whose" he says. Enter Sprinfield's finest and both Pauly and Buzz are arrested.
At the park, Eleni is there to meet Jenna and Alan-Michael. A-M is a no-show but leaves a business plan for them to go over. They are not happy to be there together. Enter Roger, Leo and Bridget. Bridget refuses to rehearse any longer. She notices Peter with the Lewis clan and gets a nasty look from Josh (anal man) Dylan notices her and bops on over. Neither want to talk about what they had been doing all afternoon. Bridget gets a bit pissy and suggests that Dylan sit with his family. Dylan smoothes things when he insists that he's just where he wants to be. She looks guilty when Dylan notices Leo & Roger lurking nearby.
At the attice we see more Bridget images that Vanessa is imaiging. She tells about missing Maureen's funeral. Sid's voiceover asks Bridget's voiceover why she went back to the attic. Bridget says she didso because back in the attic she could be proud of her baby. Everywhere else she felt shame. Phantom-Bridget tells Phantom-Sid d why she remained with the Lewises after Pete was born. She tells of her need to protect the fragile newborn and keep him safe from harm. Bridget says she never truely consented to giving Peter away. She says thatshe always intended to get him back when she got her life back. "Cause that's what I gave up when I got pregnant. I gave up my life". Vanessa gets up in tears and leaves.
At the police station, Pauly & Buzz are cuffed and led in. FBI man makes a lame apology to Ross (reporters jumping around) Ross announces that he will represent Buzz. He promises to spring Buzz in the AM. Enter Sid who makes small talk with Ross about the custody battle. Exit Ross & Blake for what I'm sure must be a very thrilling car-ride home. Buzz Freaks! "Hey that's my lawyer!" Buzz is led to his cell. Nadine goes too to tuck him in cozy. Buzz is ambivilant. He just wants his lawyer. Nadine starts to bawl. Buzz tells her not to blame herself. He tries to make her laugh by telling her that it isn't the worst place he's lived. Nadine swears to get him out. Buzz asks her to tell Frank & Goosey.
Back at the park, Shayne and Marah diss and tease Tangie around, getting up upset. She wonders aloud if she's ready for motherhood. Enter Josh witharound 15,000 red-white-and-blue "Rocket Pops" Tangie watches from a far. She then runs into Patrick Cutter, and they as they make small talk they start flirting with each other.
Eleni & Jenna run into each other and exchange insults. Eleni tells Jenna she doesn't know how to run a business 'cause all she's ever done is stolen. Eleni leaves. Eleni gives check to Frank for use of the kichen. He accepts and asks Eleni if she's seen Buzz. She hasn't a clue...Frank starts to look mushy. Eleni nervous and leaves.
Nadine rushes into the Diner and tells Jenna about Buzz. Nadine decides to take Buzz' adviceand decides to blame Jenna instead of herself. Jenna offers to help, but she refuses. "Frank & I will take care of it" Jenna wonders what Buzz ever saw in her when he was in such capablehands as his family's. Nadine says she doesn't know . She questions why Buzz would make such a risk for Jenna over a diamond. Close-up on Diner wall where Buzz' medal is mysteriously missing. Nadine rushes off to the park and runs to Eleni where she relates the news of Buzz's arrest.
As all of Springfield watches fireworks(on Memorial Day?) and dances to music, we flash to Buzz sitting alone in his jail, overhearing Taps being played.

Someone might have posted this previously in the thread, but for anyone interested in reading SOD Synopses of GL from mid-1975 through late 1976 (the issue "months" don't match up with the actual story months), here you go:

http://fnaf.net/classicsod/?cat=20

Even for those who aren't familiar with earlier GL history, it's still an informative read. Ed, Holly, Roger, and Christina/Blake history are included, as is the death of Rick Bauer's mother, Leslie. It even includes the introduction of Philip Spaulding's natural birthparents, Justin Marler and Jackie Scott (Marler) months before Philip arrived with Alan and Elizabeth Spaulding.

Variety reported that for week ending Feb 22 1980, GL was in 3rd place behind GH and AMC. So Marland's first few months on the job were paying off.

Carl,

I really tried to feel the heat, but by 1985 I was ice cold towards GL.

Sorry, I couldn't resist. wacko.png

This is probably unpopular, but I actually was kind of bored with Marland's GL. I actually liked Pam Long's GL much better, though I do admit Infinity was not a great story nor was the mysterious Cain character (though I think Pam Long was gone by the time that story played out).

I think Long was gone for that story, yes, although she must have had the initial idea.

I haven't seen enough of 1985 GL to comment, but everything is so relentlessly hyped up, like everyone was doing lines before taping, that it can be tough to stomach at some points.

My opinion on Kyle tends to vary based on what he's doing at the time.

I think the worst part was just that there was no longer any foundation for the show.

I haven't seen enough of Marland's GL either. I think parts of it work very well. I really enjoy the Quint/Nola stuff, even if it's sort of its own show and probably couldn't have lasted long-term even with Marland. And I think he had some good ideas with certain characters. It's just that there's a weird fight between heavy boredom and outbursts of high camp. I also think the younger women on the show were by and large too placid in that period.
