AMC: The Moving/Not Moving Thread

I don't disagree with that... but I'm saying why have her on the majority of the week and so heavy in the episodes? If the storyline has stalled, there's no need to have it featured front and center every day of the week. Ideally, you'd put this story to the mid-burner... hit on it maybe once or twice a week until you gain some momentum and then return it to the front burner when it starts to move again. But it seems the edict is "No! Even if they have no real story right now, Kendall and Zach MUST be on 95% of the week in 75% of the episodes!" If these were any other characters played by actors who had impending departures, this storyline would've disappeared for weeks. Look at how Pratt dropped the Rebecca/Hubbards storyline for weeks, and then brought it back and wrapped it up in five seconds. Look at how the Zach/Reese/Bianca storyline catapulted to a speedy conclusion.

Susan Lucci Going West With 'All My Children'

Susan Lucci and most of the 'All My Children' cast to stick with the show when it moves west

By FRAZIER MOORE

The Associated Press

NEW YORK

When ABC's "All My Children" makes its move from Manhattan to a new home in Los Angeles, Susan Lucci won't stay behind.

The leading lady of this durable daytime drama says she's decided to keep playing oft-wed diva Erica Kane, just as she has since "All My Children" premiered in 1970.

"I made my final decision just a couple of days ago," Lucci said. But as an inveterate New Yorker, she added that she wouldn't be uprooting herself and her family for a permanent move.

"My life is here," she said during a chat between rehearsals Wednesday.

Meanwhile, most of the New York-based cast will be joining her at the new L.A. shooting site, where production begins in early January, ABC has announced.

The main exception is Ray MacDonnell, who, like Lucci, is an original cast member. He is retiring from his role as Dr. Joe Martin.

ABC's list of continuing cast members also includes Brittany Allen, David Canary, Bobbie Eakes, Melissa Claire Egan, Stephanie Gatschet, Ricky Paull Goldin, Vincent Irizarry, Michael E. Knight, Jamie Luner, Adam Mayfield, JR Martinez, Cameron Mathison, Debbi Morgan, Cornelius Smith, Jr., Denise Vasi, Darnell Williams and Jacob Young.

Thorsten Kaye will not relocate to Los Angeles, and Alicia Minshew will be on maternity leave beginning in November, ABC said.

The cross-country move was first announced this summer, with Dec. 11 the final day for the show in its current New York facilities. It airs weekdays at 1 p.m. EDT.

Set in the fictional town of Pine Valley, "All My Children" is moving west both to save money and to enhance the show's production values, according to ABC. The new facility is twice the size of the show's New York home, with two sound stages, and the ability to tape the show in high-def.

The roomier, better-equipped provisions "will allow for more expansive writing and more flexible production," Lucci said. "To move 'All My Children' to California is a large vote of confidence by ABC."

Of the seven daytime dramas, just two — ABC's "One Life to Live" and CBS' "As the World Turns" — will still be in New York.

CBS' New York-based "Guiding Light" ended its 57-year TV run in mid-September, the latest chilling hint that the soap opera genre is a dying institution.

But Lucci is a true believer, and she thinks her network is, too.

"ABC is making a huge commitment to continue our show," she said.

Relocating:

Michael E. Knight

Susan Lucci - not relocating but commuting

Ray Mac Donnell, the only original cast member besides Lucci, will not be making the move and is retiring.

Apparently according to Thorsten Kaye's website, he won't be relocating to LA, and he won't be commuting when the show heads there and his last tape date appears to be sometime in November - I presume when Alicia Minshew's maternity leave begins.

The article only said she will be on maternity leave but she wasn't on the list of continuing cast members. AM did not want to move or relocate and I can't imagine her commuting with a new born.

Also missing from the list is Chrishell Stause (Amanda). I thought she might stay and still try for other roles in Hollywood but I guess not.

Shannon Kane (Natalia) is not on the list either but I would be surprised if she is not going - JR Martinez (Brot) is going. The list from ABC said it INCLUDES so it may not be completely inclusive.

There are only 18 contract actors listed - pretty small list. Maybe they will add more contract characters in LA? Stephanie Gatschet who is not a contract player that we know of is on the list.

Since the kids will not be relocating, my guess is they will be SORASed when they are recast.

AMC Reveals L.A.-Bound Cast

AMC is confirming which of its current contract players are heading West when the show relocates its production to L.A. in January. The entire cast, including heavy-hitters like Susan Lucci (Erica), David Canary (Adam), Michael E. Knight (Tad), Vincent Irizarry (David), Debbi Morgan (Angie) and Darnell Williams (Jesse), will be continuing on the show after its move, with a few notable exceptions: Original cast member Ray MacDonnell is retiring after 40 years as Dr. Joe Martin, and — brace yourselves, "Zendall" fans — Thorsten Kaye (Zach) is not relocating and will tape his last scenes as Zach while the show is still based in New York. As for his leading lady, Alicia Minshew (Kendall), she will not be appearing on the show when its first California-shot episodes begin to air because she will be on maternity leave; her first child is due in late November. But, she assures Digest, she will return to the show, although the precise length of her leave is still being determined.
