Y&R: Potpourri Thread 2

And as a child of a cancer survivor, I didn't even realize. Boy am I dumb.

And it goes without saying... whatever my disillusionment with a piddly soap opera, I would never wish this terrible illness on anybody. Certainly not on Maria Arena Bell. I can only hope the wig signifies recuperation and not recurrence. Maybe even just a dress-up moment. My mother's hair has returned (and very fetchingly, too) but sometimes she trots out the wig because it makes her look so different.

Same thing with me, except my mom didn't make it. I wish nothing but health to MAB. You never know how important it is until you lose it.

Bill & Maria's daughter looks (face-wise) hell of a lot like a young Lauralee...

As for the dress: for a stout republican and being amidst family she looks rather cheap and sex-kittenish. LOL

As I'm getting bored with Y&R these days two truly trivial comments:

Why is Noah always dressed like a ballet dancer??? Not talking about Spandau Ballett but Swan Lake here...

I realized that on Facebook, their pages seem to be ligit, Goddard and Beemer amongst other soapers have shirtless profile pics? Why would one do that??? As semi-public figures and especially with Goddard proclaiming himself as a serious "actor", isn't it kind of counterproductive and weird since it is no hook-up site.

Since Maria said she is a two-time cancer survivor (per her CBS.com or sony.com interview on Lily's cancer), I'm very afraid that that is a cancer wig.

No matter what anyone thinks around here, I'm guessing we're all united in hoping she is healthy. If not, that might explain some of the inattention and lack of control that folks here feel they have observed from their headwriter.

ETA: I'm noticing she wore the same wig at the MOCA gathering a while back. I'm seriously worried that she's had a recurrence, which is not happy news for anyone.

It does look like a wig, but it doesnt mean the cancer is back. She could not have her back to what it once was or something like that because of the cancer and insetad opts for wigs. It's an okay wig, i dont think it looks cheap because anyone who knows anything about wigs knows they are not by any means cheap. A good wig is actually hard to find.

I cant even begin to tell you how many reguler people, business people, and hollywood people have shirtless facebook pictures. lol.

i cant judge, mine is me hitting a beer bong froma girl in a bikini, but again im not trying to be a serious actor or anything so...

Really?

It's ok when you're young and not trying for anything.

But a friend of mine is working in HR and they always have a student googling and checking facebook sites when someone applies and if his/her profile is too revealing and if they're fans of someone/something slightly crossing with their ideals his/her application hits the bin...

BTW, re: wigs - apparently some women prefer to wear them (mostly actresses, even cancer-unrelated) to save their real hair from being ruined. Lesley Anne Down mentioned a few years ago that she has been wearing wigs for all job/public appearances since the 80s...

Yes, of course. I don't think anyone here wishes her an illness or anything like that. One thing is to hate a person's writing, but a completely different one wishing such stuff. And like all of you said: if it came back, I wish a speedy and full recovery!

By the way... If you remember the last pic I posted... There wasn't a wig there and that was in October (National Arts Awards). And I don't think she wore a wig for MOCA Media Preview, which was two days before the gala.

Oh yeah, i know. I helped a freind start a company and thats what i did, the hiring. and i so checked facebooks, myspace, twitter, etc... people really should know better. i know once i start applying for new jobs my defult gets changed to something nice and what not and everything else goes on private.

and you are right about the wigs, a lot of people wear them just to wear them too.

{{{dmarex}}} so sorry to hear that. This disease is so horrendous that even those who go into remission are forever looking over their shoulder at its shadow.

Wishing you and your family the best. xxx

I definitely wish MAB all the best, but I could not be more shocked that Lily's story is being written by someone who has survived cancer.

It makes absolutely no sense. I guess it means MAB is just okay-ing everything Hog/Scott come up with without doubting them.

Must be. This story lacks all depth and understanding of the female mindset when it comes to motherhood. Actually, I think it lacks all depth when it comes to fatherhood as well. Neil is the only one who had the sense to voice some concerns about the timing of this surrogacy, but Cane seems to think it's the best plan ever. As they say, fools rush in where angels fear to tread.

MAB said in that interview (I will try to find it) that a writer on her staff is currently suffering from cancer. I even did a transcript....

Found it here:

Video is here:

http://www.theyoungandtherestless.com/multimedia/videoswf_4786.html

Transcript:

It feels like cancer touches the lives of almost everyone. So, I felt like it was such a powerful and relatable story, particularly when it happens to someone who is young and in the prime of life.

The way that we're playing the struggle that Lily faces is that it very much is like it would play out in real life. There are days where you feel exhausted and you feel powerless, where you ou run the gamut of emotions. There is acceptance and frustration at the same time. There are so many different emotions that play out when someone has cancer.

It helps that on our writing team we have one writer who is currently suffering from breast cancer, who put a lot of her own heart and soul into this story. Um, I myself am a cancer survivor from two different types of cancer. So I think it is something that we all can relate to very strongly in some way. And so I think that, you know, for Lily herself, you know, to show who she really is as a person. She's gonna summon strength that she didn't even know she had, you know. Lily has a cancer that has a 25% survival rate. What we hope is that, you know, Lily is going to be in that survival, you know, percentage. Um, and that's the hope of everyone who is battling cancer. It is a battle, it is a fight. And that is what the story is about.

And I hope that anybody who's watching and going through it will not say, you know, 'Oh, I'm tuning in and this is depressing me further, given that I have to face this everyday.' but instead feels 'You know, I'm looking at this, and this story is so very like my story, and so very like everyone's story who goes through this.'

I have felt this way. I have seen this happen. I know what it's like.

As I speculated back then:

This may explain MAB's long hiatus from writing...and even some of the clothing choices some of you have been ridiculing.

Wait a minute.

I don't mean to sound insensitive, so I sincerely apologize if this actually is confirmed and real, but have people suddenly, on the basis of hairstyle, seized on the insane theory that Maria Arena Bell has cancer, is indisposed and that is why the writing of her show sucks?

That's like if we have two pictures of Ron Carlivati, one with beard and one without, and I say "oh, the bearded Ron is obviously Patrick London, who must be the guy who wrote the Todd and Marty rapemance. Case closed! Baliff!"
