December 16, 200916 yr Member Wait a minute. I don't mean to sound insensitive, so I sincerely apologize if this actually is confirmed and real, but have people suddenly, on the basis of hairstyle, seized on the insane theory that Maria Arena Bell has cancer, is indisposed and that is why the writing of her show sucks? That's like if we have two pictures of Ron Carlivati, one with beard and one without, and I say "oh, the bearded Ron is obviously Patrick London, who must be the guy who wrote the Todd and Marty rapemance. Case closed! Baliff!" Yeah I thought I was losing it for a bit, so I didn't comment.

December 16, 200916 yr Member I hope she is healthy, but if not, that's just another reason why they need stronger writers and producers. Sheffer, Rauch, and Hamner do not cut it.

I can understand it, in a way, that her writing deteriorated further after finding out about her health. If what MarkH thinks is true is true. If you couple depression, apathy and disinterest...

If you couple depression, apathy and disinterest... I don't know who to say is responsible for what, because a lot of the show's biggest problems are problems which Rauch, Sheffer, and Hamner have had at their other soaps, before they ever knew MAB.

December 16, 200916 yr Member Funny thing, I'd take her solo run over this crap any day, even though it wasn't good.
December 16, 200916 yr Member Funny thing, I'd take her solo run over this crap any day, even though it wasn't good. I agree. The show was boring and dumb but at least managed to not be offensive and crass and regressive. I think the Newman family was much more interesting then, and Adam at that time had much more potential than what he's become. There was a long term, potentially great story about the Newmans estrangement, which was all shot to pieces as soon as Sheffer and Rauch showed up and the carnage started.
December 16, 200916 yr Member The way that we're playing the struggle that Lily faces is that it very much is like it would play out in real life. There are days where you feel exhausted and you feel powerless, where you ou run the gamut of emotions. There is acceptance and frustration at the same time. There are so many different emotions that play out when someone has cancer. It helps that on our writing team we have one writer who is currently suffering from breast cancer, who put a lot of her own heart and soul into this story. Um, I myself am a cancer survivor from two different types of cancer. So I think it is something that we all can relate to very strongly in some way. And so I think that, you know, for Lily herself, you know, to show who she really is as a person. She's gonna summon strength that she didn't even know she had, you know. Lily has a cancer that has a 25% survival rate. What we hope is that, you know, Lily is going to be in that survival, you know, percentage. Um, and that's the hope of everyone who is battling cancer. It is a battle, it is a fight. And that is what the story is about. I'm sorry, but I see very little of this in CK's performance. Edited December 16, 200916 yr by Juliajms

December 16, 200916 yr Member Sheffer must go, I'm convinced of that much. There has to be someone out there who can compliment MAB's style.
December 16, 200916 yr Member I'm sorry, but I see very little of this in CK's performance. They surely could have fooled me. All I see is CK is weara head a scarf or what-ever that is. It's hard to see these depths and take the stroy this serious when it is just not done well enough to show it. Weak writing and a weaker actress

December 16, 200916 yr Member Be careful with what you wish for. Oh, I know. Even then I remember wanting to quit (Sabrina being the main reason). Overall, I think I'm done with this show forever. MAB will probably put it into a grave, but even if she doesn't, there will be a different writer that will do just as bad. There's no hope left for soaps.
December 16, 200916 yr Member I'm sorry, but I see very little of this in CK's performance. I feel so bad, but I just kept focusing on how many more times will she say you know.
