I loved Jennifer Runyon as Sally.  I wish they could have enticed her to come back instead of killing Sally off.

I thought December 1980 - November 1981was pretty good.  L. Virginia Browne refocused the show on the Ewings, Cory's and Matthews.  I initally liked the return of Steve Frame and think it may have been a bit more successful had the show properly recast Alice.

Both Nancy Frangione and Susan Keith were amazing as Cecile.  Laura Malone should have been a leading lady on the show until it's final episode.  The conflict between Sandy and Jamie was wonderfully written.    Marianne and Jamie had so much potential as a couple.

Then Corrine Jacker came along...

Agree completely. I very much liked Browne's stint and liked Canary as Steve Frame. I think he worked well with Victoria Wyndham. I think the problems were the poor recasting of Alice with Linda Borgeson. (I actually liked Vana Tribbey in the role of Alice.) And I shudder at the name Corrine Jacker. Truly one of the worst writers to grace daytime television.

I almost think Vana was too strong willed to play Alice.. but she was loads better then Linda Borgeson.  Seeing the year where Jacqueline came back as Alice made me understand why she was so popular in the 60s and 70s on the show... and was amazed at how she played Alice as strong and not so weepy and insecure like she was played in the early 70s when Harding wrote the character.

I liked what I saw of Jennifer R as Sally.. and thought it was a shame she left just as she was starting a triangle with Cass/Peter with Donna ( newly arrived) not taking too kindly to her.  I often think had Jennifer R stayed on... Cecile wouldn't have been inserted into that story, imho.

I have a vague memory from reading Eight Years in Another World that there was some financial reason that they went to St Croix.  Maybe it was the producer's vacation home?  Does anyone remember that detail?

I didn't mind Vana Tribbey and I think I would have liked her more had she been given time in the role.

Corrine did a few things right - created the Morgan's, Thomasina, Cass, Julia Shearer and ALMA RUDDER!  She moved Quinn into the forefront and gave Ada and Liz lots to do. But those are the only positive things I can remember about her tenure.

She was treated horribly by AW at the end of her run there - fired for not losing weight fast enough after she had a baby. On the upside, Laura went back to school and is now a successful attorney. I believe she specializes in corporate law.

Here is one of the only surviving 90 minute episodes that I know of.

(the padding with Iris is hilarious...)

I watched part of this last night. The Iris/Vivian playing backgammon.....LOVED seeing Vivian though when she was younger!  I'm going to have to watch more of this time. That was the first time I had ever seen Bev McKinsey as Iris - I won't make a judgement off of those couple of scenes that I watched. Some of this leads into Texas, I believe? I know some of the beginning of that is available as well. I should wait until I'm well and good in the mood for this time period and just get sucked into it all.

Jennifer Runyon was good as Sally, and even the disastrous Steve Frame return in 1981 gave us the forever-underrated Petronia Paley as Quinn Harding.

Oddly enough, my favorite Sally is the one who looked most unlike Sally or acted like Sally Frame.  MPK.  It was odd when they casted her in the role .  A dark hair and eye replacing a blonde blue eyed.  I think Julie Phillips did a great job of replacing Cathy Greene of a young Sally to late teen

Did Alice adopt Sally before or after Steve's death?  Was she adopted or was it a Batman/Robin ward situation because Alice was single?

I think the adoption process began while Steve was still alive but after George Reinholt had left the show.

Mary Page Keller was my favorite Sally as well.  I did not care for Taylor Miller as Sally, but TPTB should not have killed off the character.   Sally was too important to the show.  Sally had ties to the Matthews and Frames and could have driven years of story on AW.  Had the character stayed on the show, Alice could have easily come back to Bay City, Aunt Liz could have been giving her advice, and Sally's son, Kevin, could have been featured as well.
