I'm sure I read it at the time, don't know where my copy might be now. My impression is that it might have been more contemporary in tone and style and with a more mature heroine than fans would have expected from a Felicia Gallant novel.

I also have no recollection of whether it was at all sexually explicit -- from which I conclude that there was nothing I found shocking in it, at any rate.

I took a quick look on abebooks and it looks like anyone curious should be able to find a copy easily for less than $20.

Speaking of Perry, the show missed a big plot point by not having Carl take revenge on Vicky for her part in Perry’s accidental death when he fell from the stable hayloft. Vicky was impersonating Marley and once Perry discovered the truth, he fell from the hayloft.

Vicky actually played a part in the deaths of both Carl’s sons (Perry and Ryan).

I was very upset by that scene. And poor Perry was mostly forgotten afterward. When was the last time Carl mentioned Perry?

Some of us said it was because the actor died of AIDS shortly afterward

Did Carl ever even find out that Vicky was there when Perry died?

I think Carl briefly mentioned him after he found out Ryan was his son.

I don't know when David Oliver first knew that he was HIV+, but he had been on the show since June 1983, so leaving in May 1985 seems consistent with a 2-year contract. Mary Page Keller had started and finished at roughly the same time. David Oliver continued to work after that -- he was in the cast of A Year in the Life as well as other smaller roles.

One thing that surprised me when I was looking at his IMDB credits was that he has a credit as "thug" in the Derek Jarman Edward II. I dont quite know whether to believe it, only really because it was an English production as well as so close to the end of his life. On the other hand it is definitely not unlikely that Jarman would have had actors with AIDS in his cast.

I'm watching the movie on kanopy (I remember seeing it in the 90s at the rep cinema, but mostly Tilda Swinton was what stuck in my memory). I haven't been able to spot our David Oliver, but some shots are rather murky and I don't expect it to be a prominent role.

David Oliver isn't too uncommon a name and IMDB is a mess so I wouldn't be surprised if it's wrong.

I know there was a writer's strike in early 1985, but I think it only lasted a few weeks. AWHP says there was no head writer from February-July 1985. Whose outlines were the writing team following?

Daphne Grimaldi was introduced in April and Le Soleil around the same time. IIRC Le Soleil was supposed to have been Gillian Spencer's baby.

Co-star talked Aprea into returning to show By Lynda Hirsch CREATORS SYNDICATE

Three years ago, John Aprea decided his role as "Another World's" Lucas Castigliano had grown stale. "My contract wa s about up," explains Aprea, who recently returned to "AW." "I went to the then-producer who said they would try to write something for the character but could not promise. I decided to go back to Hollywood." Aprea had left Los Angeles in 1989. "During the years I had been gone , this whole industry had changed. Financially and emotionally, it was a hard time." In fact, he says emphatically, "it was a nightmare."

With that said , Aprea worked a lot upon his return to Los Angeles — but not enough for him. "I did lots of episodic work, but that is not always very good in this business. To really feel satisfied and make money, you need to be a regular on a series or a star in A movies." Aprea admits that during what he considers his Los Angeles lull he thought about quitting the business: "I did not have a clue as to what I would do. I would not be good at very many things out of the entertainment field."

In between acting in small roles in films, as sidekicks in pilots and being featured in episodics, teaching class and directing a play, Aprea talked to his "AW" co-star Linda Dano (Felicia). "A year and half ago, Linda called and asked if I would be interested in returning to the show. I was. At the time, they were going to bring back Lucas. I don't know how. But that seemed to be the plan. Then, that idea faded away. "I tested for the role of Mel on 'One Life to Live.' I did not get it. Then , the call came from 'AW.' They wanted me back. Not to play Lucas but the character Alexander Nikos, a shipping magnate who storms into Felicia's life and who, yes, looks a lot like Lucas." Lucas with a beard. "The last time I had a beard, I was a hippie," he laughs. "At least I thought I was a hippie. I had the long hair and beard." Aprea , whose New York accent is in full swing when he is not acting, says as Alexander, he will not use a Greek accent.

His return should have been a no-brainer...instead the whole thing was a slog, drowning in convoluted backstory and ill-advised attempts at the gothic. If AW had not clearly been on the way out by that point I wonder if Linda Dano would have considered leaving.
