Frankly, there was no real need to make Mac Cory's illegitimate son a prostitute at all.

That's part of the reason I thought it was intended to hint at homosexuality until it was almost sanitized.

It looks like Virginia Browne was the HW who created Sandy. Would she have been tempted to write a gay character?

Great question, but I don't know enough about either Tom King or Virginia Browne to know if either would have been interested in writing a gay character. One might assume they would be interested -- as progressive artists on the east coast. But I haven't seen or read any evidence that either of them had that expressed desire.

If Lemay had written it, I think Jim Poyner would have worked. With other writers, I'm not sure.

Regarding Iris -- I think Iris might have reacted more like Phoebe Tyler (with Little-Phillip) on AMC -- reluctantly accepting the child wasn't her biological grandson, but using her influence to try to keep him connected to her family. Mary Matthews had little social influence, so was forced to give-up Jamie as her grandchild completely.

That would have been an interesting turn.

Lemay would have had a big curveball to deal with due to Beverlee leaving. I wonder how he would have reshaped the canvas.

@vetsoapfan You may enjoy seeing this too, especially the vintage DAYS.

It's interesting; back in 1979, I was disappointed in all three of these soaps, because to me, DAYS had fallen apart in early 1977 with the dismissal of Pat Falken Smith, AW had been crippled by the cast massacre of 1975 and the continuing decline in its writing, and The Doctor had also been the victim of poor writing under various scribes like Mel and Ethel Brez and Linda Grover. BUT! With modern-day viewing of episodes from this period, my criticisms are less harsh than they once were. While I still lament the less-than-stellar quality, the shows are/were much better than we have seen on daytime for a long time. Just seeing familiar faces is a treat in itself.

Thanks for the tag.

I know what you mean - I feel that way when I try to go through ATWT and GL from 93-95 or so.

Any thoughts you have on this episode or DAYS or The Doctors I would enjoy reading. DAYS of this period in particular is something I'd always love knowing more about.
