I'm not sure what Wyndham looks like now, but I can see her as Jill, at least as a temporary recast. She started her soap career as the highly manipulative and wicked Tracy Delmar on GL, scourge of the Bauer family in the late 60s and early 70s. When she took over as Rachel, Rachel was still nasty and loving every minute of it.

Even years later, when Rachel was with Mac and had grown children, you could still see that street come out when she was in her lioness mode, when one of her kids was hurt (like when Liz told Matthew about the circumstances of his birth). Her one-on-one scenes with other women she didn't like were the primary outlets for Rachel's nastier side.

It wasn't until Carl that she became the more tranquilized Rachel. Even then that was more the show's choice than her own style. I loved that Michael Logan interview for her 25th anniversary as Rachel where she immediately put him on the defensive for the comments he'd made about her performance as Justine.

She was also a temporary recast for her sister Felice Camargo on Woman with a Past in 1954 where she played Constance Ford's daughter.

Later Felice returned the favor and temporarily filled in for her when she was sick on Guiding Light.

Agreed.... Deidre Hall would just be an epic fail.....

I think that if this was a short-term replacement (i.e. a couple of weeks) they could pull any age-appropriate actress off the street and limit Jill's airtime til Jess returns. However, sadly this looks to be long term (i.e. at least a couple of months, depending on how her health/contract negotiations go), so they really need to be careful whom they cast. That's why I keep advocating Christine Jones. She's got Jess's stature, and she can play elegant and vulnerable with a hint of trash and ferocity. That's the kind of role she played on Rituals. She's just a really good, versatile actress. Plus, unlike a Linda Dano, she doesn't have this overpowering over-the-top persona that would overshadow the material. With Dano in the role, all you'd see is Linda Dano, not Jill, if that makes sense. As for Wyndham, I just don't see her having chemistry with Jeanne or any of the actors she would interact with. There's a WASPy iciness about Wyndham that would not serve the character of Jill well. This should be really interesting. Whatever the case, I hope Jess is back in the role ASAP.
