Glee: Discusion Thread

LOL, this is true. The only difference, though, IMO, is that Hannah Montana isn't hailed as one of the decade's greatest shows of foreverer and nobody, not even the most rabid of her/its fans, saying that it's brilliantly written or a masterpiece or anything. If a Hannah fan believes that, that's perfectly fine, but the second they call all people who disagree jealous, talentless hacks, that's when it stops being fine. That's what too many Gleenuts do on blogs, message boards, etc.

Has this moron even watched Glee? The auto-tuning is one of the worst things about the show, but without it I suspect that the actresses who play Rachel and her mother might be the only survivors. The auto-tuning of Finn is one of the main reasons why I despise his casting.

Miley has no reason to be jealous (though I think her new career direction could badly backfire), but the fact she dislikes it does make me a bit more willing to like it more. LOL Of course I think musicals can be really great ways to tell stories (something I'm not sure Glee exactly exemplifies...), and I'd saiy it's just as hard to suspend your diebelief to watch one as it would be to watch crap like Hannah Montana. :P But I'm not gonna say that Glee is in the same level as A Little Night Music (at all).

BadZoe a few of the others would last without the auto tune--though maybe they couldn't record the tracks in the extremely tight amount of time they do--I saw Matt Morrison in Hairspray ages back, and he definitely can sing live (in fact I think he's a bit underused how thye always seem to give him endless rap songs). But yeah, I don't think Monteith has much vocal talent--I went to school with him here in Victoria and didn't know him well, but he was a nice, quiet guy so I could be biased--he did play the drums but certainly wasn't involved in any theatre or musical theatre (like me :P )

Anyway, tonight's episode was typically a mixed bag for me. Why does Jesse hate Rachel so much? Why is the wife even back and now hitting on Finn? And even worse, why is the closeted, flamboyantly gay teacher from the early eps back (complete with hysterical molestation jokes) when even Ryan Murphy said to Ent Weekly he realized he was a mistake...

the reaction to the miley comments have been amusing.

she pretty much said people busting out into song out of nowhere is something she doesnt like. Its a common complaint about musicals. I feel the same way, for the most part. Now if her show plot was as redic or not is rather pointless... Moving on...

Ryan Murphey... Eric, i dont know why you give him so much credit. He is an awful showrunner. He has proven time and time again he pretty much just goes with no plan.

The Vocal Adrenaline and Quinn giving birth sequence was brilliant. I know it's not going to happen but I wish it was more soapier like the first half of the season which had more of an edge.

    • And, to me it is a little bit hilarious that AW fans all over continue to refer to it as Egyptian Dust Recently elsewhere I've been running polls. When did you stop watching AW or What storyline caused you to stop watching AW. You may be interested to know that sticking it out till the bitter end is winning by a landslide. Next highest vote getter is - no surprise - Frankie's murder. So that covers like 60% & next 20%. Then the votes drop way down to 10% and well below but a wide array of reasons are given, including but not limited to  Justine Lumina Rachel having twins at her age, how ridiculous Mac's death the 90 minute show firing JC, George R & Dwyer Hmm, I know there are a few more, in the 1%-3% range but I cannot think of what they are. Sorry, my bad. Should have made notes but I didn't know I would be posting about it. LOL!!
    • A kind angel has added both episodes to the vault (UK Diva TV broadcast version).
    • Yes, I think that is the most likely situation.  TPTB were unhappy with the offer(s) they got from the tourism board in Finland, and decided the trip was going to be too expensive for P&G/NBC to finance alone.   I would also speculate a similar situation likely occurred a few years later with the planned location shoot in Egypt, which was also cancelled after the storyline had already started, and changed to Arizona.

    • In my usual account on my most used video hosting site with the video title  DAYS 1-8-15 Will & Paul Sex This is an edit I began when I was first teaching myself to edit & at that time I couldn't make it do what I wanted it to do. I pulled it up & finished it this morning.
    • Or Megan is shot as retaliation for Dave's unpaid gambling debts...while Julie confesses she's the biological mother of Special Guest Star Barry Bostwick's little boy.
    • Finland seemed such an odd choice for a location shoot. ATWT went to Greece and later Spain while GL had Tenerife and there were others in that timeframe. But Finland not being a known tourist destination or offering the tropical/sunny atmosphere usually associated with location shoots seems off brand. Maybe they were negotiating a deal with a tourist association and it fell through.
    • I was talking about 1986, but the glimpses of 1982 are about the same.
    • I skimmed some of the 1982 synopses; Steve was planning on an opening an office in Finland, and I think Jim went there as part of the preparation. That probably was a big issue; AW had already gone to San Diego that year, with Rachel/Steve/Mitch. And to upstate NY with Pete and Diana. I wonder if upstate was as expensive lol  AW in 1982 has always fascinated me, because of how messy it was
    • That makes sense. What a messy time for the show. And any changes they made were mostly for the worse.
