OLTL: Discussion for the week of March 2, 2009

This week's episodes were awesome. I loved the school dance; it was like they had a mini Go Red Ball! So many of the teen stories had major developments. Lola finally put the moves on Markko and revealed herself to be a little nutty; Starr kissed Schuyler; Matthew got humiliated by his "friends;" and Cole's drug addiction finally hurt those around him as he and Matthew got in a terrible car crash! Very exciting stuff.

The adults had some good developments too. Natalie discovered that Bess was the one who went to the hospital on the night of Chloe's death; Stacy caused trouble for Gigi and began to seduce Rex; Blair was STABBED in the shower. Awesome, surprising stories!

ITA. This week was awesome and a nice build up for Friday's episode.

I adored the ominous scenes of Matthew getting humiliated at the dance paralleling Bo and Nora having flashbacks and discussing their son. I hope the accident brings these two closer together.

The scenes where Marty finally realized that her behavior has had an affect on her son were good. Most of all, I loved the lighting in those scenes. OLTL never does night well, but in those scenes, it was believable with the mist and some blue lighting thrown in to imitate the moonlight. It reminded me of the production quality during the days of Linda Gottlieb.

Hmmm Stacey seems to becoming Llanview's very own Sami Brady.

I quite liked Thursday and Friday, excluding some incredibly awkward and forced scenes between Matthew, Becca, Destiny and their leprechaun villain friend. Eddie Alderson is actually the strongest person in those scenes; he's been very good this week (as has Brandon Buddy) and I hope it continues. Also: Bo and Nora!

Aside from Matthew, the rest of the younger teens are horrible (especially the leprechaun villain - nice name for him, Vee ). Maybe I'm spoiled by the teens on "Skins" but I want to see teens like that on daytime.

Loved the Nora/Bo scenes and the flashbacks too.

Okay so do we know why Stacey is going after Rex? Did I miss something? I'd rather know why she's going after Rex instead of not knowing her motivations.

Not really, pieces are coming together slowly. Schuyler did recall Stacy always being hung up on a guy while she was with him. Stacy told Roxy she knew Rex first. I was beginning to think Gigi stole Rex from her but then Stacy told Rex to chug the beer like the way he used to with Gigi. Stacy is the younger sister who hung around and developed a crush on her sisters guy. Perhaps we have another mad Mags on our hands?

Gigi needs to stick her foot in Stacy's butt. I hate Stacy. I'm looking forward to watching Gigi find out what she's been up to.

Does anyone know what is going on with Jared and Natalie's wedding plans?

    • I guess he was let out the gates, because he's outside.
    • Yup.  You can hate John all you want, but like seriously he was the cornerstone of the show for years.  So he should get a long ass funeral and burial and all the things because Drake and John deserve that.

      look who’s at a party I’m at
    • Yes. We should absolutely move on from John/Drake's 40 year legacy on the show to see what Leo is going to do tomorrow.  Lol.  This can't be a serious post.

I came in with a dream and left with a purpose. From lecture halls to rehearsals, community work to creative sets, every moment shaped me. I’m so proud of the stories I’ve told here — and the ones still unfolding. Grateful to everyone who poured into me, supported me, challenged me, and believed in me. Fours up and peace out! #UCLA #ClassOf2025 #BlackBruinExcellence #YearbookVideo @jordanward
    • The actor who plays Martin has been teasing that nobody has guessed Martin's secret. I love that for things like that and the June story we have no idea. I feel like if we didn't have the day ahead feeds Anita's reveal would've been shocking as well. I love that they aren't going the obvious route with these stories.
    • I tried following the news in Los Angeles at https://laist.com (independent public radio and news) They had up-to-the minute accurate info during the wildfires in January. There's no video, no impact to my mind as to what's happening. Trying other outlets, to get the truth, but it's hard.
    • That's a bit murky since that happened during a writers' strike. Assuming Kristen Marie had a 2-year contract she left about when her contract would have expired and Sharlene and Josie showed up right before that. Lemay was officially credited as HW from September 1988 but it seems very probable that his anticipated tenure influenced events that happened during the strike which started in April.
    • I've seen so many posters over the years who are bright, creative, well-versed in soap history, and who care deeply about the integrity of the genre. I'd put the shows' chances in their hands a lot faster than I would allow any of the "usual suspects" to take control of the dramas they've already helped decimate. When I returned to university in the 1980s, I created a bible for a new soap and presented it in my screenwriting class. It was in reaction to how badly I saw the network shows being butchered at the time. The creative process was thrilling; a total joy, and I still smile when I remember the positive feedback I received from the professor and my fellow students. I was used to seeing written commentary from professors on my work. This one wrote me a long, complimentary note on the final page of the bible, but also graded it 97%, A+. I was beaming ear to ear for days!
