Y&R: Nia Peeples has a HUGE Ego!

On Friday February 27, Nia was interviewed by Brandon on BlogRadio's Brandon’s Buzz.

Scroll down - they start taking about Y&R at the 57:25 mark

In this interview, Nia comes across kind of cocky to me.

Her comments about Y&R:

  • The producers contacted Nia's agent and asked her to come in to read for a part. They were looking for a 23-year old black woman to play Neil's love interest. Nia had her agent inform them that she was definitely not 23 years old nor black.
  • She was not interested in working on a soap until she spoke with others who had worked on soaps, and they told her that the working hours were rather short. Normally, scenes are done in one take - in and out with no rehearsals.
  • Kristoff rarely prepares for his scenes and sometimes flubs dialogue, but the good thing about him is that he listens to her during their scenes and is quick on his feet. She and Eva Marcille had a recent scene in which Karen was very angry. Nia said that she got really into the scene, but Eva was not listening to her. They had to do 3-4 takes because the director and producers thought that Eva's reaction did not match up to what was happening. After Eva started listening to Nia in the scene, she improved.
  • Nia said that she does not want to say anything bad about Victoria Rowell, but she has the impression that not just Kristoff but the directors, producers and cast had issues with Victoria on set; they were thankful that Nia was on set (instead of Victoria).
  • Lynn Latham hired her as Neil's love interest but then realized that it was too soon for Neil to move on, so they introduced Karen in Nikki's storyline. After several months, then she moved over to Neil's storyline. However, the writers strike began, and someone else started writing the show. The strike writer made Karen into a singer. Then, MAB started writing the show and wanted to let Karen go because she felt that Karen did not fit on the canvas. MAB told Nia that she was a good actress, so so Nia should not think that her acting was the issue. Nia laughed because she knew that she was a good actress, so she knew she was not the problem.
  • Nia was let go by the show, but she reviewed her contract and realized that her new 26-week-cycle had begun. She told her agent that the show could not fire her yet because a new 26-cycle had started. The show had to keep her on. It seems like the Tyra-Ana thing was in the works already but had to be adjusted to include Karen.
  • She says that Karen is hellbent on adopting Ana.
  • She has asked the producers/writers what Karen's job is, but they have no clue.
  • Paul Rauch, the executive producer, really pushes the actors and does not let crap slide. She gave the example of how Paul would force the actors to drive the scene. For instance, Paul would tell Bryton/Devon to get into his scene. Nia says that she has a producer's mind and thinks that actors should not show up if they are not prepared. She has never had to be told to improve on her scene because she's already into her role and driving the scene when necessary.
  • When they told Nia that they were letting her go from Y&R, they lied to her and told her that Karen would still be living in Genoa City - aka recurring. Nia showed up to shoot her last scenes, read the script and saw that Karen was moving to New York City! She said that they probably lied because they thought that she would not show up for the last day of taping.
  • Nia says that she's had only a handful of good scenes to play during the last 1.5 years. Her goodbye scene last year was her first good scene. Her other good scene was when she told Neil that she could not have children. When she finished, Paul Rauch walked over to her and told her that she had done a good job.
  • In addition, Paul has told her that she is the most professional actor on set and elevates everyone else's work.

She is a good actress and is unappreciated. Her ego, it seems, is huge, but it doesn't bother me---she knows how to stand up for herself.

And Eva wasn't able to deliver? Not surprising at all.

It's a sad thing that her character needs dozes of personality inserted.

I love Nia Nipples for this!

Love how she pretty much dogged Tyra Banks Winters and Mr. No last name "BRIGHTON!"...

Love people who are confident and brutally honest..

So I guess based on Nia's comments re: being written out we can not expect her on much longer-- the 26 week contract cycle thing confused me, as generally you can be fired at any time during a 13 week cycle (I think the show just has to pay you until the end of that cycle, whether they use you or not..

I was confused as to the timeline as well- but I assume Karen will not be around 6 months from now..

Good for her saying what she feels.

I don't see this as an ego problem either. She was confident in her ability to act, but she never said she was the greatest actress ever. She was honest, she didn't beat around the bush. Hell, in this economy, if I was let go as soon as my new contract cycle started, I too would demand to keep my job for as long as I could.

And come on, it's not like she didn't say what we already knew in regards to Eva Marcille and Bryton...

I think that it is highly unprofessional to comment negatively about co-stars, especially when all of you are still on the show.

Victoria Rowell was raked over the coals for saying similar things. Their comments are eerily similar actually.

Nia's referring to Spring 2008. It seems like Paul really likes her, so she should be around for awhile.

Judging by what you posted, she said Eva wasn't into her scenes with her and they had to do multiple takes with her to get it right. It's not like she called her a bitch, racist, pig, or anything insulting like that.

Rowell spoke publicly about her personal fights with co-stars and insinuated that the cast was racist for not giving her an Emmy pre-nom. She's done this in more than one interview. All Peeples talked about was acting with her scene partners. I think there's a big difference.

Rauch only controls production elements, if Maria wants her gone, she's gone.

I'm just telling Nipples to sit down because, even though I was going back and forth throughout all of her telling tales out of school -- a school from which she was EXPELLED, it wasn't until "Paul has told her that she is the most professional actor on set and elevates everyone else's work," that made me want her to sit her ass down somewhere.

Before this 18 month stint on Y&R, what was the last thing she did? The last time I heard anything about her was in high school -- and those were the 1993-97 years.

When it comes to Rowell, she said nothing that we didn't already know. Also, she only commented on how Eva and Bryton do things, she never said they were bad.

I loved her interview, she seems like a very interesting person. :) For some reason I like her even more now than I did before.

She may not have starred in groundbreaking roles, but she had several guest appearances and TV movies.

    • Maybe there was a scheduling conflict or something. He still has the full time 9-5 in Atlanta, right? Julie was there. Idk if Maggie’s gonna be a part of it though

    • Today Monday was the start of people arriving at the funeral, but the service hasn't started yet.  I know this is the nonspoiler thread but I think it's okay to say (in nonspecific terms) that the funeral episodes span a few days.  I won't detail it more here. Just sayin' keep watching.
    • Why am I only now hearing about what happened in L.A., lol?
    • While I agree that Reeves is Jennifer, I honestly do prefer Cady McClain in the role, as I feel she had/has a wider range of acting capabilities than I feel Reeves has. It's the strength of an actor, ultimately, for me, regardless of how I feel about Reeves' political/social views (which I widely disagree with). Plus, not to mention, they costumed Reeves like an old-fashioned frumpy farm/Moron wife, while McClain had some fashion-forward moments.
    • Wait - so no Will, Jack, or Jen at John's funeral? That’s just weird. What was the point of bringing them back then? Did Julie and Maggie even show up? I mean, seriously.

    • Has anyone ever totted up how many women on GL slept with both father and son(s)? Reva gets a lot of crap for it but she's far from the only one: Claire Beth Blake Olivia Dina Did I miss anyone?  Also, did Reva ever sleep with Phillip? They always had some "closeness" thing, but I don't know if they ever actually did the deed. If they did, then Reva's the clear winner, with TWO families covered, lol!
    • I think Long was probably planning to have Claire suffer from Post Partum, but she left the writing staff shortly after Claire had Michelle so that element didn't get explored. And I always assumed that when Claire returned in the late 90s/early 00s.. that she was realizing that she messed up by not staying a part of Michelle's life and became resentful/bitter over her previous choices.  That was my theory.
