With the new year on our heels, let's discuss what we want to see on B&B for 2009. Here's my wishlist:

- Owen is Ridge's son

- Pam somehow sleeps with Eric

- Taylor is happy and in a supporting-only type role

- Bridget has a healthy romance with someone and none of her sisters, mother or hell, her grandmother Beth sleeps with him!

- Jackie re-emerges and becomes a threat to the Forresters and fights tooth-and-nail against Stephanie.

-Katie gets a tragedy-free s/l that allows her to become strong and fierce as she should be.

- Brooke and Ridge break up for the last time and become ENEMIES.

- Deacon returns

- Nick goes sailing far, far away from L.A.

- Massimo returns and alligns with Jackie

- 4 fashion shows a year!

- Sheila's daughter, and Ridge and Nick's sister, Diana appears and is a chip off the old block.

I endorse the ones I retain above. For Taylor to be happy, in light of your Bridge breakup, she and Ridge should quickly remarry, and that should be the end of romance stories for the two of them. Brooke and Ridge need to move into strong parental support roles (think Stephanie), where they manipulate circumstances to affect the outcome of their children's lives, and Taylor needs to be the sensible counter-balance and talk-to for the kids.

I want Donna to leave. Sadly, Heather Tom too.

Jackie might work. But what I really want are UNDERDOGS who despise the Forresters as much as we do, who plot to overthrow them. I'm talking about people who, in the past, were represented by Sally, Deacon and Amber.

My own preference would be to make Charlie Baker a new young lead, and make him the father of Marcus (yes, Mykel Shannon Jenkins IS old enough! He is as old as Gareis). Then, bring on the Baker clan. Detective Baker could be the strong, stalwart, slightly judgmental father figure of this working class clan. I'd make him a widower. I'd make his daughters (Charlie's sisters) and sister (a midlife fierce woman) real aspirational diva types with a fashion bent. And I'd have this new Baker clan plot to get one over on the Forresters...much like Sally used to.

-Jackie going against FC.

-Pam returning and not being crazy. She can take Beth's place since Beth hasn't been doing anything.

-IF they ever want to do something with Beth's dimentia, then we need to get to knows the character. She doesn't have to be frontburner forever, but at least have her around and talking. They could spend the whole year building her up and having something happen next holiday season.

-Something for Felicia.

-Something for Katie not involving Nick.

-Ridge/Brooke either stay together or apart for at least 9-10 months, if not the whole year.

-No medical problems for at least the first half of the year, if not longer.

-No Amber and no Deacon as long as Owen is around.

What I would like is for Bold and the Beautiful to get back to what the show was centered around and that was clearly FASHION!!!!! When was the last good fashion show or fashion storyline. When was the last great battle between Forrester Creations and Spectra Designs. Granted Sally is gone and oooohhhh HOW SHE IS MISSED! But the show has totally lost what it was about and created on. So can it please get back to that. I remember when Lark Voorhies and Lindsay Price were on the show and how fashion driven it was. I remember Maggie and her daughter and so many other characters and I can go a little further back than that. But the show was entertaining and gorgeous to look at.

BIGGY- Acting lessons for 70% of the cast

Patrick Mulcahey announced as the new headwriter... it is time to modernize the dialogue as well- Enough with the shooting on the roof. Put money into writes.

A return to FASHION, Find another competing fashionhouse with some excellent characters and actors...

A good bitchy villian would be much welcomed on this show.

I think B&B gets away with murder in terms of ratings, critics, ect. It has been a terrible year.

It is downright laughable and horrible at this point. Its like Passions but without the humor and bright lighting.

CBS dumps B&B and SoapNet adopts it as one of its own (a longshot for sure but what the hell), expands it to an hour, give it a primetime slot 5 nights a week (10p.m.-11p.m.), dump characters Taylor, Stephen, Beth, and Katie, introduce a gay hottie fashion designer who's revealed to have blackmailed Owen into having a past one-night fling with him, bring Thomas back full-time and make HIM a potential love interest for the new gay hottie, continue to write Rick more as a Logan than a Forrester (Stephanie has said that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree where he's concerned), introduce Marcus's dad so he can rattle Donna, introduce a sexy male character who works as an escort servicing both men and women. He becomes drawn to Bridget (who's oblivious to what he does for a living) but one of his customers turns out to be her half-sis Felicia!!!! Introduce a very sophisticated 40-something sidekick/lover fashion designer for Jackie. Together, along with Nick, they start a brand new fashion house which makes the Forresters shake and shiver. Introduce a sexy lawyer as a potential love interest for Thorne. Have the characters showing lots of skin and even their bare asses when necessary. Storylines should be high-trash and over-the-top. It's a show about fashion houses for crying out loud so why shouldn't B&B live up to ALL that relates to it? This is what I wish for B&B.

AN EARTHQUAKE! It's Los Angeles!! It could clean up the cast (Ridge and Nick) and bring couples closer together and or break up couples, what have you.

Ridge and Nick DEAD, like point of no return goddamned DEAD. Like fighting in a car and it bursting into flames and them being frizzled to a crisp, or, the earthquakeBrooke being so distraught she leaves town and has therapy until she can be on her own, as a strong independant woman who can carry this show when The Divine Ms. Flannery retires.

Something for Eric besides alternating between trying to be cool and languishing on the vine.

SOMETHING for Felicia, and a love interest, and something in the company. Felicia and Thorne maybe overthrowing Ridge in a fashionista battle!!! (With Margo or something)

Kristen with a decent actress who can hold her own in this family, post-Tony. Maybe fight with Felicia for a man.

Taylor to be terribly disfigured in the aforementioned earthquake, and when she has corrective surgery, she looks like a human instead of an overinflated platypus.

A decent role for the Logans instead of too many Forrester props.

A younger set. B&B probably has another generation left in it, besides, if Flannery and McCook retire there'd be a big hole.

DIRECTION AND VISION either from the writer we have or another one.

CLASS! This is supposed to be the flashy over-the-top Los Angeles set, it seems like the residents of little GC Wisconsin are living it up more in the midwest for God's sakes. Let's see some GLAM! (LA Location shots even). Nightlife.

**DIVERSITY**

No more incest.

Rootable characters and couples instead of damaged goods we dont care about paraded on our screen 24/7

Here's my 2009 B&B wish list:

Marcus is killed somehow. I don't are how. I just hate the character and think he's totally unnecessary. It was stupid to make him Donna's son. Just kill the character off. Have the Logans and Steffy mourn for a few days and then forget he even existed. I won't mind, I swear.

Tie Owen into the show more. Make him a longtime characters son if you have to. Perhaps he is Clarke Garrison's son. Brandon Beemer was played to star on B&B, so don't lose him!

Get rid of Jackie. She's another character that's not needed, and never was. Lesley Anne Down doesn't have chemistry with John McCook, so stop doing the Eric and Jackie tryout. It's never going to work. And I'm not interested in another attempted feud between Jackie and Stephanie. Brooke is Stephanie's nemesis. No one else. Nick doesn't need his mother on the show.

Break up Eric and Stephanie once and for all. Have Stephanie buy Spectra so that the show still has its fashion rivalry staple. It would cause family drama and conflict between the Forrester children as Eric and Stephanie decide which child they want on their team.

Honestly, I like Eric and Donna together. But they can't have Stephanie be in a triangle with the two. It makes Stephanie look pathetic because she still wants to be with a man that sleeps with any whore that spreads her legs. But that's who Eric is and that's why he works with Donna. However, it hurts Stephanie so keep her out of the story. Instead, recast Beth Logan with an actual decent actress and have a triangle between Eric, mother and daughter. I suggest Donna Mills as Beth. Please!

Have Thorne stay at Forrester after Eric and Stephanie set up their own fashion dynasties. I just see him staying loyal to Eric. I'd say give Thorne a love interest, but I would rather watch Thorne as the family bachelor, with differen women every now and then. Have him sleep with the Forrester models. Make him a playboy, damn it. Or have him come out of the closet. Both scenerios would work for me.

Give Bridget a man that is hers and hers alone. Well, not so much just hers because B&B is known for its love triangles, so she needs to be in one too. However, lets not have the man sleep with her mother. That's just gross and Bridget should've had a mental breakdown years ago. I would say bring back Deacon, but I don't think Sean Kanan will ever return to daytime, and I don't want anyone else in the role. I say throw Owen her way after he's found out he has actual family in Forrester-land.

Make Felicia the show's bitch! Lesli Kay can play the bitchy role so well. Use her talents! With the rumors that Susan Flannery wants to leave daytime, the show's going to need that top bitch to keep things interesting. Felicia is certainly her mother's daughter and they need to capitalize on this. I would make Felicia move over to Stephanie's company, causing conflict between her siblings that stayed with Eric. And it would also help us see that Stephanie and Felicia are one in the same.

I'll probably get hell for this, but keep Brooke with Ridge. They just work. Ronn Moss and Katherine Kelly Lang work well together. Ridge and Brooke have amazing history to play on. Plus, there's the Brooke and Stephanie rivalry that needs to continue and can with Brooke in Ridge's life as a love interest. I just really don't want to see them break up again, only to be brought back together a few months later. Just keep them together.

Write Rick off the show. He's not needed anymore. Ridge and Thorne already have a great brotherly rivalry that's actually rooted in history throughout the show, not just in the last two years. Have Rick go back to working for Forrester International. Maybe he'll find the son he's apparently forgot about over there.

Keep Pamela far away from the show! She's been ruined to no redeeming.

Let Ridge defect over to Stephanie's new company along with Felicia. You know he would. He's a mama's boy and will follow Stephanie. You could either keep Brooke at Forrester so that there would be conflict with their rival work places, or bring Brooke over to Stephanie's company along with Ridge and let the fireworks begin with Stephanie being Brooke's boss.

Write off Nick and Katie. When will the show realize and admit that the attempt to introduce a third party family, the Marones, was a mistake? Just have Nick, Katie and Jack decide to sail around the world. Great send off and it'll just get them out of our hair and off our screens.

Give Taylor a new love interest. Maybe she starts drinking again and goes back to rehab where she meets a fellow recovering alcoholic. That would be just great.

I'd bring back Thomas Forrester permanently, and attempt something very controversial and very B&B. Very campy. Have Steffy become a lesbian and have Thomas and Steffy fall for the same girl, who's bisexual. That would be just great.

I want Kristen to come back as well, on a permanent basis. I would cast Cady McClain as Kristen and involve her in a love affair with Stephen Logan! Also, I would have Kristen join Eric and Thorne's team because Kristen is the daddy's girl of the family.

That's my 2009 wish list. I bet it doesn't come true. ;)

    • Like I've said before, I think the show is often a very strange (and admittedly fascinating to me) mix of very old-fashioned, purple dialogue and classic soap opera structural elements - right down to the insanely blatant, virally successful product placement for P&G - mixed with other dialogue or material that tries desperately to be current and hip. One moment it will remind me of very hokey old B&B stuff or expository stuff out of the '60s, and the other it'll look and sound like the Prospect Park soaps. Some of the hipper dialogue or material (Chelsea's sexuality, etc.) works for me, others are pure cringe. Same with the classical stuff, like the characters (particularly the elders) gathering around to recap plot, make grand pronouncements about each other or their children/family, or make grave portents of the future. Then there's the whole piano thing lol. It's a weird mix, but not one I'm mad about atm so much as mystified by. As a longtime soap fan it is very compelling to examine even when parts of it really don't work, because so much of BTG feels both very old and very new at the same time. I do think they need to dump the Bell (or maybe more accurately Brad Bell) school of dialogue MVJ has been working from for years, and bring in more of the naturalistic GH house style she and Guza worked from in the '90s and 2000s. If that means dumping a lot of the dialogue people so be it (I do think some are good). OTOH the Bell style seems to work for a lot of the social media and probably offline audience that isn't me, so who's to say. I don't think Dani is at all in the latter-day Carly though. She's not on quite as much, and she's far from always right. I do think they are definitely playing it down the middle with the Duprees while waiting to reveal more, but I do think they want you to see them both ways or divide the audience on who they are. Which seems to have succeeded because some people are baffled.
    • Might this show be a black stereotype? Angry crazy acting women like Dani and Leslie. Cheating punk men like Bill and Ted who didn't keep it in their pants. Angry black men like Martin. Promiscuous black man wanting the white girl. Dirty black cops. And so on?

    • That would require Dani to think about someone/something other than herself.. and we all know Dani only thinks about Dani.  Including her butting into Nicole's business instead of just being a supportive sister.
    • I also hope there will be a follow up to Dani noticing Vanessa with Joey. We need another scene of them two together. And does Dani have any knowledge of Vanessa's affairs?
    • One of the soap greats. I wish I had a stronger connection to her, but her major soap stints passed me by. However, the way veteran watchers have described watching her back in the day makes me yearn for the glory days of soap. As a DAYS fan first, her time on the show is basically an enigma. As years have passed as a member of this board, previous and current members have talked in fondness about her obviously major story with Dickie and David's death, but even more interestingly, her romance/friendship with Bill, and the fascinating tangled tale of her encounter in the park with Eric Peters. It's such a shame DAYS never swayed her back home where she belonged. Though I am more than thankful RC and JG didn't get their grubby paws on her, especially with the horrible example of how they saw fit to write Marie and Liz's relationship with all the nuance and sophistication of a pigpen.  SSH's remembrance of her was wonderful to read, so thank you to whoever posted. Could be cool too if any of her Clear Horizon material popped up. Does anything of that show exist?
    • All this! Especially the highlighted. If today was any indication to what's to come, I see Mona and Shanice roles being beefed up. I personally think they are going to test her out with Doug.  I initially didn't see it for Kat, since the Eva reveal, and few of her scenes around it. Made me warm to her for some reason.
    • Agreed, pretty much with everything. The dialogue bugs the hell out of me. I don’t think a lot of it even works written out on a page, much less spoken. Even a veteran like TT can’t help but sound stagey with such purple prose. Re: the Duprees. I’m guessing that they’re holding their cards close to their vest on them for the various mysteries that will unfold, but I wish they weren’t so opaque and tonally weird as characters, especially in these make-or-break early days. (One reason why I wish they’d give up on keeping secrets from the audience and just allow them to speak freely, allowing the tension to come from what other characters don’t know.) Dani is giving Carly Corinthos realness, which isn’t a compliment. Oh, don’t get me started on the Black male characters and the tropes they’ve employed thus far. I had hoped a Black-created, NAACP-co-produced soap would be more cognizant of these traps, but nope. At least it seems like they’re playing the long game with Andre and Dani after all this feening over basic Ashley.
    • I feel like the reason they went with these two stories is because these are common stories told on soaps that allowed them to really tie the entire canvas in and help develop their relationships. I do understand the implications of having two cheating stories and these being Black characters but MVJ has always been clear that she wanted to show us the same way characters are featured on any soap. I don't think any story should be off limits just because the majority of the characters are Black. We have several positive representations of Black men so it's not like everybody is a cheater or a bad spouse. I also think the two stories and relationships are different enough that the stories don't feel similar in any way.
