The soaps have been losing their audiences, but I am convinced that these nutjob fan bases are the main reason that the storylines are so disjointed and characters stagnate and become uninteresting. These people are obsessive and have weird attachments to fictional characters and the real life actors that must freak the actors' out. What irks me the most is that these fan bases act as if their miniscule group is representative of the whole audience's opinion, but in fact is they don't care about the show or its long term health.
