Frankly I think the MSM is clueless that people are finally TIRED of hearing about Hillary's emails. It reminds me of Bill Clinton circa late 90's again. People got tired of hearing from Ken Starr and his stupid investigation at a point also. I think most are satisfied or never will be and are just tired of hearing about it. It's getting to the point where it comes across as bullying now. Lauer was awful.

I think this may be the tipping point on the emails, actually. Week after week they have breathlessly covered it trying to shore up the race, and week after week there is nothing there. Matt Lauer wasting over half the American public's time in a foreign policy debate with more of the emails and then letting Trump babble has hit him hard tonight, and according to one reporter at the forum the live crowd was very pissed he opened on them as well.

Lauer's incompetence and Trump's nonsense have become the story of the forum, while Hillary walked away mostly undamaged. But what I think this may accomplish for her is finally putting the emails in the ground because this episode was a flashpoint of how tired everyone is of it other than the Beltway elite.

Good to see Lauer being called out. But is NBC Politics any better with this headline? Trump Praises Putin; Clinton Defends Emails?

They're making it sound like Hillary is just as bad imo. (I didn't read the article though).

This article sums up the fear I've had for a while, which is that Trump will win because the media just makes it so very easy for him, as they did again tonight.

http://nymag.com/daily/intelligencer/2016/09/lauers-pathetic-interview-made-me-think-trump-can-win.html

All he has to do is not take a dump onstage.

I saw people going on about polls showing he could win Rhode Island and New Jersey. Are these solid polls or is this the usual fakeout to try to get the Democrats to waste time and money there?

I imagine the media will be going wild over this.

I think Chait is mostly venting about Lauer and the media. I think most even-handed people in the media - including him when he's not so upset - know Trump can't win. And even as Lauer took it mostly easy on him (but for a few moments where he did engage, and Trump became very upset), the news takeaway has been that Trump was making no sense and said several shocking and stupid things.

I also think they will be all under much more pressure after tonight (and the last few weeks) to take it to Trump in a fair way during the debates. After Trump's seemingly endless post-RNC flameout they've spent weeks trying to rig the scale to make the race even, hammering away at every bit of Clinton minutiae in the hopes of making the polls equalize while letting Trump skate and allowing him to try to recover. But he hasn't, and the polls aren't equal and won't be. What the weeks of Emailgate and now Lauer's bumbling have done is put the onus on the media to stop coddling Trump and banging on Hillary and start getting serious. I believe that is the narrative that's been forming for a week or so and I believe that is the narrative we will see going into the debates. Whether the networks bow enough to it is another story, but if there's one thing they believe in it is narrative.

I saw that Trump said HRC doesn't look presidential. I think she really does though. It's unfair that appearances matter so much in our culture, but they do, and I feel she has that certain something I expect to see in a leader. Maybe it's just confidence, I can't put my finger on it.

One ad I'm seeing that's really effective is the one where someone asks Trump what he's sacrificed for his country and he says something like "I've built businesses and had a lot of success" and the interviewer says "Are those sacrifices?".  If he had the humility to just say "you're right, compared to the Khan family and others who have lost children, I haven't sacrificed", he'd be like the majority of us. He's incapable of that though, so the Clinton campaign has another excellent ad. Whoever came up with the idea to keep making ads using Trump's own words hit the mark.

Nobody's really buying that, though. I'm not even sure that piece is.

Adieu, Gary Johnson.

And yes, "What is Aleppo" is trending.

Amusingly, Mark Halperin followed Johnson out into the hallway to try and salvage something, possibly hoping Friend Gary could still cut into Hilldog's lead!

I was so excited for this and for the debates, because we know (as she showed last night) that Hilary can handle that and it would be Trump's undoing. What I didn't realize is that they would softball Trump so much. I expected Lauer (or any moderator) to go HARD on both candidates. Especially after how he did Hilary I was so ready, but nope. Let everything Trump say slide. It amazed me and also leads me to believe Trump could win and that he will do just fine in the debates. Nobody is going to take him to task for anything. It's going to be a Hilary pile-up regardless of how many candidates are actually debating. It'll be Trump and the moderators vs Hilary. It won't be a real debate. That was so disappointing to see last night. So disappointing. I could literally go on and on about all the things Trump said that were shocking and made no sense, but what is even the point?

    • I don't suppose you have that August 4, 1995 episode @soapfan770 has with Hope throwing Nikki out of The Newman Ranch?
    • I have taken extremely long breaks from the show because of Sonny and I didn’t watch in the 90’s so I didn’t realize this was a crutch the show used all the time. Hell even though Maurice hates it, it was the most I could tolerate Sonny because he was written as the ass.hole he actually is at his core. His meds working again don’t erase all the characters I’ve either liked or accepted that I had to watch he and Jason murder and somehow come out as the good guys.
    • When I saw the pic of two kids on a stoop, I immediately though it was Samantha and Tyrell but that could be a red herring. The picture is quite old so maybe it is Hayley and June. This would help to bring Naomi back into Hayley and Bill's orbit. If June is Tyrell and Samantha's mother, that story would seem to be a dead end - unless Martin and Smitty adopted them through improper means.
    • I would DIE if Shanice’s mom lived beyond the gates and was just as messy I loved her so much. Give. Me. More. Absolutely loved this scene. Looking forward to more bonding between them. She is such a find. If her agents are smart, they’re booking her on bigger things as soon as possible. I want to see her blow up. She is THAT good to me. Ambyr and Trisha are the stars of this show for me and why I watch. Bingo. This show actually feeling like a soap that moves has made it so hard for me to watch the others anymore. I love you Thank god you said this. I wish we’d stop taking the bait but this needed to be said. White male leads cheat ALLLLLLLL the time. But this poster seems to think omg two black men that cheated decades apart are about to set us back somehow. I’m about to add them to the ignore list with Donna, I’m sick of the baiting. This was perfectly stated. Preach my friend, preach. As for yesterday’s episode I loved it. The show is handling the fall out from the Eva reveal so damn well for me. And I LOVED that Ted final scene holding Eva’s hand. I guess I’m in the minority since the recast announcement was made but I will miss Maurice and his chemistry with all of his costars as Ted and really wish he could’ve played the entire fall out of the story.
    • I would love to see it as part of a backlot shopping district where characters can bump into one another in a more natural way. Lately there has too much getting up and leaving then coming back during meals at Orphey's and Uptown. It's becoming a distraction. There could be shops, more restaurants and a coworking space. All of the "you will never be a Dupree" lines definitely are pointing to this. This is one of my favorite stories. I love stories about show business and MVJ has a background in the music industry so I'm looking forward to seeing where this goes. Anita instigated the breakup - we have already seen her mean streak come out with Hannah and Eva. I expect one member (she called Sharon today) to be holding a grudge and another member (Tracy) to be somewhat bitter but more open to the idea of a tour, playing the role of peacemaker between Anita and Sharon. Maybe Sharon will pull a Mary Wilson and write tell-all about Anita.

    • I would have been more impressed if it hadn't been built on a con (Sonny's meds already being used to make sure he would be exonerated later on). The show has been doing this dance with Sonny since the mid '90s, including Mulcahey's previous stint. I almost prefer them just being honest, as Laura doesn't have a great deal of integrity to lose anyway. The problem is Sonny is just completely spent as a character. If he wasn't, we wouldn't have to see this comment from Laura again and again. He would actually be doing something on the canvas. Instead, he's written like he's already dead. If only.
    • It seems like Steve actually enjoys scenes with Jane.  I really think Steve has just mellowed out in general and is more open to doing what is asked.  He's not 30 anymore so he's probably just happy to keep getting work especially after the whole Covid situation. If he ended up with Brenda I wouldn't complain either lol. You probably won't get that 10% out of me, but I may consider if you drop the Jordan love haha!
    • I'm sticking to my theory that June is Hayley's sister (maybe a cousin since this show showcases cousins). Hayley really needs someone else to interact with because her being isolated to just Bill is not working. Eva only seems to have a backbone when it comes to Kat. She had no problem rubbing it in her face that they are sisters. Sharon hanging up on Anita was a good little nudge for that storyline. At least one of them having a name is promising to them actually showing up.
    • Reviewing the 1985/86 sophomore slaughtering and sophomore surprise. The Cosby Show 23 of 25 episodes finished #1 in their original broadcast, one episode finished 2nd, and one episode finished 3rd. Murder, She Wrote 18 of 22 episodes were the highest-rated drama in their original broadcast and 19 of 22 episodes were CBS's highest-rated scripted series in their original broadcast.
