What's scary is that the Republicans who oppose McCarthy say he's not conservative enough.

I agree. It's terrifying.

I love watching these idiots in disarray, but it's not good for the country overall when nothing can get done.

Sixth vote - results same as fourth and fifth votes.

Nobody got the 218 votes required to win Speaker.

201 - Repub. Kevin McCarthy

212 - Dem. Hakeem Jeffries

20 - Byron Donalds (Republican from Florida)

0 - Others

1 vote as "present"( Victoria Spartz of Indiana was the one who voted "present".)

434 total.

Byron Donalds has served only two years in the House.

This is pathetic.

For all the "Dems in Disarray!" articles the media adores, that just proved more projection. The GQP couldn't find its own collective ass with a flashlight at this point.

I knew we'd get nada done with this crew, but I expected AT LEAST some bills discussed/debated, not just total NOTHINGNESS.

20 votes for Byron Donalds.
Byron Donalds has served only two years in the House.
They're promoting (using) him because he's Black and very right wing.
The Freedom Caucuas nominator had the gall to mention Frederick Douglass.

Here's a question that I haven't found an answer to - given that Marjorie Taylor Green was stripped of her congressional committee duties during the prior session of congress, will she get them back with a GOP majority?

There was a funny CNN piece on how she spends her time, given that she had nothing to do but sponsor bills that never made it to the floor with names like The No Funding for Terrorists Act and The Protect America First Act. ( https://www.cnn.com/2022/01/03/politics/marjorie-taylor-greene-twitter-permanent-ban/index.html )

Now with the chaotic mess of the GOP being unable to elect a speaker,  this ignoramus seems to wield a lot of power just based on her social media presence rather than her actual ability to be a force for change.  She is the nightmare of a media creation, who can say the most offensive things, while not serving her district and getting re-elected.  Even in her debate for this election she had to concede that she had not fulfilled any of her election promises because she was removed from her committee positions.

So, is she going to get them back?

The fact that Scott Perry said that Byron Donalds is big in stature, but nice goes to show that these people are still racist even towards those who agree with them. That was a perpetuation of the big, scary black man stereotype.

Yes Getty Images was on the House floor and that's George Santos and Marjorie Taylor Greene.

The creepy factor though.  Does he even know or care that she hates him actually?  That's how deplorable these people are.  They have no moral bottom.  We've all said it.  For all of the *itching by Republicans about Hillary and her "lies" and the hearings and ALL of the things, her biggest mistake was she told the honest ugly truth about them.  They are deplorable.  And they prove it over and over and over and have no idea that they're -- proving it.

Thursday Jan 5.  Today's Speaker selection session began at noon Eastern time.
They just finished the speeches to nominate the same three people.
