Dismaying to see the Al Smith dinner, which was one of those low moments in 2016 where you were reminded the "normal" or "civil" Presidential campaigns the media so craves was gone for good, back in the news now. Dismaying because the pattern continues of Harris being attacked if she doesn't do rallies and focuses on media yet is attacked when she does rallies instead of a media opportunity. Seeing so many go on about the anti-Catholic and disastrous decision Harris made not attending this trap and how she is the new Walter Mondale (the last to skip this event) just reminds how she can't win in the eyes of many journalists. Trump was also his repulsive self, utterly cheap and coarse. Seeing Chuck Schumer squirm and try to force a grin as Trump tore him apart and as the audience laughed and applauded every hateful word he said just makes me all the more wary of how many major Democrats may be about him winning and they just don't want to say it.

I also have no use for Jim Gaffigan shilling for that event, on top of his hackiness on SNL.

Here is a good article about Bill Clinton going out to campaign again. I know the party has had issues with his era actions, but he's a first-rate surrogate.

This is paywalled, so I'll just note the key new factoid is that some source has told them Trump keeps backing out because of 'exhaustion.' Trump PR then of course pushed back on this. Trump also backed out of the Shade Room.

Harris is apparently going on the trail with both Obamas next week.

If anyone wants to pass along the above tweet of the side-by-side comparison
of the same audience member asking questions
at the Trump and Harris Univision town halls ....
If you don't use twitter, here's the same on a twitter alternative:
( "xcancel.com" instead of "x.com").
Click, (it might pause to verify you're not a bot), and then it will work:
https://xcancel.com/MsMalarkey24/status/1846945642377056462

Or, much more simply, the two clips via youtube, which you can easily share with anyone:
The gentleman audience member asking at the Trump Univision town hall:

And the same audience member at the Harris Univision town hall:

Aaron Rupar tweeted some highlights of Kamala Harris' Oct. 10 Univision town hall.
This is a copy of his twitter thread, you don't need twitter to see the clips:

I really appreciate her answers about healthcare, Long Covid, etc.

They were saying it at the dinner. It's being used to go at her for being anti-Catholic, with even the supposedly liberal host Gaffigan going in on her about not being there. And led to the inevitable "she lost the day" articles. I don't think it's going to be a deal-breaker, but it annoys me because of all the double standards where she does what people wanted her to do (more rallies) and still the spin is of how she failed because she didn't go along with "civility" at a dinner run by predator enablers. And the optics of various Democrats applauding or laughing with Trump put me off as well, because how can you call someone a threat to democracy when you're doing all that? It just causes even more of the people who are easily sucked into saying both sides are the same to nod along.

The early voting numbers haven't been very good so far in a number of states (whether this is just because 2020 was an anomaly due to many Republicans refusing to early vote or a sign that he's overperforming polls again, I don't know), so maybe some like Schumer have gotten the same vibes and decided to let him have his moment, but the whole thing was a grotesquerie to me, as much or more than in 2016, a reminder of how many in power and the media still want to live in 2000. And the type of thing that seems to go around more easily than the clips of his decay or his no-shows because of the easy pickings of, "He was there doing a standup routine (bigoted screed) and she wasn't."

    • I agree. I really have enjoyed this story from the beginning. I feel like it needed the time for us to care about Doug. They've done a nice job of explaining his motives and making me care for him. I still feel like he's doomed and Vanessa will end up being a widow and now I'm invested in that *not* happening now that I've fallen for him. Friday was good but so was the entire week. I think they're doing such a nice job of keeping things moving. We got good movement with Bill's story this week, Chelsea is attempting to date, Andre and Dani are having tough conversations about their relationship, of course Anita reunited with Sharon. There is *so* much going on and I didn't even cover all of it.  I wish all of the soaps would take a page out of BTG book and start rotating their stories. I love that everybody is getting a chance to shine and they don't just sit on one lead story to the point you get sick of it.
    • Did Jordan Clarke have a departure sometime between 1985 and 1989? I know Robert Newman had three runs: 1981-1984, 1986-1991, 1993-end.
    • Well, they usually weren't on the show at the time for long until the late 90's. But yeah, they really deserved a story centered on them, and not through the lens of Reva.
    • Chelsea was doing the absolute most today! Why was she introducing her sister to a woman she doesnt know? That whole scene was embarrassing. Madison needs to stay away from her bc she is too immature
    • Gosh, what a waste with Lunacy. Why have her live with $B, reveal Finn, pardon her, etc What makes this story incredibly hollow is that what Luna is asking isn't unreasonable - to spend time with her cousin father. She's not asking to move in with them. How hard with it be for Finn to throw her a bone by, say, I'll meet you for lunch/coffee once at week at the hospital cafeteria. Lunacy isn't going to hurt Finn. In fact, all her crimes were related to finding her father and it turns out to be someone she's loved her entire life. Instead of course-correcting the nonsense of last summer, Brad somehow found a way to make this worse! That's a skill... Of all the younger actors B&B has cast during the past 5 years, LY has shown the most growth and range. Why get rid of her?
    • On the subject of sets (seems more interesting to discuss than the actual show)  Some sets we don't see anymore Lauren/Michael apartment (haven't seen that in years) Victoria's house (are Marian/Tessa living there?) Apartment above Crimson Lights (I think Chelsea was the last resident) Penthouse (Lily's home) Chancellor Estate (Devon/Abby) Chancellor office (once Dark Horse) Nick's house GCAC room (used as residence/hotel room for several characters) Some of these may pop up again. The tack house, for example, was not seen for many months before being used again. Have I missed anything?
    • Thanks for searching through everything. Worked on them so long, just too lazy to check for those links myself, so I am glad you chose to do it! I guess I never did type out anything for 1973-1977 in regards to the preemptions, but they are on the charts at least (and this far back, they don't seem to do any of those "breakouts" anymore, so things are simpler in the 1970's, so eventually I could type those out).
    • I dump on the Y&R sets problem all the time, but BOLD is no better -- and they're not even introducing new sets. All of their sets are years old, and very few look like they're inhabited by people with money. Is that going to change with this move? I'd rather they save the money spent on another remote, which is no better than an HGTV travelogue, and get some new/better sets.
    • The donut posts here make up for a Friday show that was barely meh. Aside from seeing Anna, I really didn't care much about anything else. While I understand the thought behind breaking up all the sadness with "other scenes," I'd rather they moved right to John's funeral. Instead of hearing a stupid story about John changing some minor character's tire 20 years ago, just move on to the crying. I also thought the Chad and Cat scenes were a waste. I realize not everyone is devastated by John's death to the point of not functioning, but going sky diving is a choice. By the way, Jack and Jennifer are giving me nothing on this return. Please leave asap. DAYS did such a great job with John's death, so ending the week this way was a letdown.
    • Add Dr. Montgomery to list of fine women on this show! I hope the show goes forward with Madison/Chelsea and then once they're developed, bring back Allison, who is now divorced or a widow, for a Madison/Chelsea/Allison triangle.  It would definitely be the hottest triangle in daytime.
