Most of the Beltway never admitted they got rolled on Iraq, nor have most admitted fault re: Trump. They're all rewinding back to 2001 warhawk mode over this, it's pretty amazing to see them behaving like they did in the days when Rumsfeld, Cheney, et al were the supposed sworn authorities on the Middle East and not global punchlines for deceit and shame.

This'll blow over in about a week IMO. It's one of those unique media things, like New York journos obsessed with the local races or Beltway folks trying to make Rubio or Pawlenty happen, that never quite resonate in the real world because it is about them and their deep relationships with their sources inside Defense. They think they can make this happen, but the polling isn't going to go with them and that's just going to infuriate them more. So from now on you'll see backhanded, grudging references in media to "Biden's failure in Afghanistan" for the next four years which we'll all call out and they'll do nothing about even though their audience doesn't care, because the first rule of Beltway journalism is Listen to the Generals when they talk off the record.

I think the refugee situation is important to get onto in any way possible at this point, but as for media takes on Afghanistan this is pretty much where I tune them out for the next week or so. They'll sulk as they realize the public still doesn't care and the above will become the new status quo.

I get the impression there was a lot of used car salesmanship re: the Afghan army from both our people and theirs, but mostly ours trying to shine on the White House and the press over the long years. Which again goes to how the Beltway press are so easily led and coaxed by their social relationships with the brass.

Any way you look at it, the real losers here are the Afghan women and girls. I actually first heard of their plight pre-9/11 on the Tonight Show from Mavis Leno (Jay's wife). To think the hope they've had and the progress they've earned was just a mirage...my heart is absolutely breaking for them.

I already said this in the media thread, but Politico is putting out push polls saying only 49% now support the pullout, so that will just further exacerbate the media propaganda. A lot of this is about people who will not accept the truth - yes, the evacuations should have been done better, but if this were Trump, who would have had Afghans mowed down in the street and spat on their graves, we would have been told it was fine, because he would have given a bombastic speech. It's the same reason some of these same ghouls love to go on about Jimmy Carter, who also tried to tell the truth.

The right wing and their media sycophants just make things worse and worse, and more and more twisted and demoralizing. It's a struggle to not just completely give in to nihilism when I see so many hacks out there with their glycerin tears about refugees when they know that the GOP will never let 99% of those refugees in and they know that many of the politicians they would sell their children for, like DeSantis, Trump, Hawley, etc. have and will continue to keep refugees out.

The pieces of [!@#$%^&*] who weep and wail about how America has lost its standing are at least more honest. They care about not getting to feel special. They care about getting less party invitations, and side eyes at the parties they are still invited to. They are too rich and out of touch to realize that any standing America ever had in the world - whatever that even was - was destroyed when Cheney, Rove, Rumsfeld, and W (another piece of [!@#$%^&*] that the media now lionizes), with a great  assist from the same media flacks now wringing their hands, lied their way into "liberating" Iraq and spewed bile at the countries smart enough to not join them.

No wonder so many people have left this country behind and will never look back. And I don't even want to imagine what is coming.

    • It's shocking to see Steffy look down on anyone. She was the new generation HO for years. I mean... she was nasty and using sex to seduce married-engaged-in-relationship-men all the time. She was embracing it fully. Bradley was accenting on the fact that Taylor's daughter had become Brooke 2. I remember how disgusting it was when she was using Hope's virginity to her advantage and offering to f-ck the guys that wanted Hope. It was ABSURDLY nasty.  Then couple of years ago Bradley decided we should forget about it and made Steffy BECOME her grandmother. IN AN INSTANT. There was no build up to it. Which aged the f-ck out the character and made her unbearable. Because it's one thing to see an actual matriarch, older woman doing these things, being a moral judge... but it's complete joke to see the ex-ho acting like this. Ex-ho that is still incredibly young and has no right acting like she is better that anyone or... a moral JUDGE. Steffy and Hope's personalities got swapped!!! That's the irony of it. So any time these gang-style of fans come attacking Hope... for acting like a "slut"... I pinch myself - their HEROINE Steffy was doing this HARCORE. Are these people oblivious or just pretending not to remember. How can you stan a moral judge... that attacks "sluts" and also stan the same type of behavior you are attacking... years ago. How does this happen. But I repeat myself at this point.  I agree with everything you said 100000 percent. It's the truth. At least in my eyes.
    • The Amanda pregnancy was a blunder. Amanda and Sam were AW's best bet for a starcrossed supercouple. Young love destined to be turn apart by outside forces and misunderstandings . Battling for years to finally get together. Instead AW had them married and pregnant within a year.
    • It is his fatal flaw.  He's smart, cute, and loyal.  But, a total chauvinist pig.  We're looking through a 2025 lens, but April's from a wealthy family, (that she recently met), she should be allowed to contribute to her own home. Especially if Draper is going to work for the Crime Commission, rather than joining Mike's private law firm (did I get that part correct?) How about smoking while the baby is in the room?  It all looks nuts by current standards. Raven was married to Geraldine's son Kevin, but had an affair with Logan (whom Geraldine also considered like a son). Raven got pregnant by Logan, then Kevin died (long story short).  The part you need to know is that Raven was bored being a mother to Jamey (check out my member name).  So, she starts going out to Elliott's club and leaving Jamey with April.  Logan is not happy that Raven keeps leaving their baby all around town.  And thus, Geraldine is not pleased with Raven either. Draper and Logan are frequently rivals in the courtroom.  FYI --- Draper is also Raven's step-brother (her mother married his father). Raven's real name is Charlotte. But, one day [she] was sitting on the lawn and saw this beautiful black bird with shiny wings fly by. [She] wanted to be that bird. So beautiful. So free. With beautiful black wings…"    @chrisml you'll hear that story soon, and I envy you getting to see it the first time.
    • There is a time... till the old storyline is cleaning up... where it's still kinda annoying. For me it was. That's a personal opinion. But in 10-20 episodes more... you'll find yourself enthralled. It's not even begun. I'm so glad to hear your reviews! And excited of what's to come for you!
    • Carly also has Nikki (Nicholas) with Lawrence. The easiest way to remember Chelsea is to think about how she was buried, stillborn, premature in a swamp and came back to life.  Or you can just remember her running over Bo/Hope's kid Zack.  Kind of ballsy to name her kid Issac if you ask me lol.
    • That's right Anita! Let her have it!

    • This is my other blind spot -- the children of Bo Brady's past loves.  Melanie:Carly as Chelsea:Billie -- but it is tough to keep them straight I dipped out during the Daniel of our Lives period of the show.
    • Yeah.  Let's just move on and talk about Jagger....lol 100% agree on the Sonny situation.  Mostly because I want Sonny to get a murder charge so he can just go live on an island with Brenda. I think Tracy did do a lot to explain Jason's perspective on AJ's murder.  I truly think that's how Jason justifies it in his own head. I don't think he was lying about his feelings.  They are just wrong.
    • I will never get over Sonny killing a fed in cold blood and everyone just shrugging when it wasn’t Alexis.    And then last week you had Jason white washing Sonny murdering AJ in cold blood to Gio.
    • I thought it was impolite to stare directly at the car crash.  Consider it like polite cocktail chatter while our hosts bicker in the kitchen
