'The View' hits record viewership

First post-election episode is most watched of all time

By Paul J. Gough

Nov 13, 2008, 07:34 PM ET

NEW YORK -- How's "The View" from the top?

The 12-year-old ABC chatfest scored its highest viewership ever with the first episode after last Tuesday's election. It won the week in all of daytime TV and was the top daytime program in women 18-49 (along with CBS' "The Young and the Restless") for the second time. The first was the previous week, ABC said.

Wednesday's show averaged 6.2 million viewers, Nielsen Media Research said. It cleared the previous record by a million viewers.

For the week, "The View" averaged 4.7 million viewers. It was also tied for the lead with "The Young and the Restless" with 1 million women 18-49. ABC was the top network in daytime among women 18-49 and finished a close second to CBS in viewership.

This is from the Hollywoodreporter, so Frons is making it with the View. The View tied Y&R in the demo. The View is one of daytime's highest rated shows now. People are thinking this huge ratings spike for the day after the election is people want to see Elizabeth Hasselbeck's reaction. No matter if you love or hate her, the girl is a ratings gold mine this year. All her showdowns with the hosts have attributed to some big numbers for the show. I bet when Hasselbeck's contract is up, she will have big offers for her own show. She is so hated by the viewers but people cannot stop watching her as the train wreck conservative bitch in your face. I have to say Rosie brought it out in her, before Rosie Elizabeth was a quiet meek little girl. Elisabeth Hasselbeck is ABC's daytime ratings MACHINE LMAO.

It's been a long time coming & everyone here & in Los Angeles is very proud to be honored by you. When so many people come together without ego in collaboration while maintaining their own personal integrity ... Teamwork is not just a word at General Hospital, it's a way of life & I'm very grateful to be working with all these people. Our hosts, Deidre Hall, Leeza Gibbons & Robert Kelker-Kelly wished everyone a good night!
    • Uh, yeah, huh?!!! Seriously, that was a brilliant line but its acumen is strictly from how hilarious. We imagine Joss in Carly's kitchen breaking the news that she's realized she's gay & Carly is unconcerned & then drops that it's Emma she's in love with ... time comes to a screeching halt!!! I think Moss would likely be thrown hard against the wall. Can you imagine Carly & Robin as mothers of the brides together?
    • @DRW50 Thanks for these. I had a procedure on my eyes and was just okayed for limited screen time the other day, but it is in short periods until Tuesday, when the doctor clears me.  I'll be adding in bits here and there, but Hoppers will be "hopping" after that. Upcoming: Rest in Peace, Denise Alexander, Ruth Buzzi and Priscilla Pointer Updating:   Max Gail, @Xanthe -- Will Lyman, who was lost in the shuffle a year ago, but his update from last year will be typed up;  New: Michelle Hurd and Shanola Hampton and others I'll b updating the edit-able profiles, too.

The shoulders and sleeves are too tight. He'd benefit from a larger size. The yellow arrows show where the shoulder cut should actually be placed in my opinion. I don't mind the granpa fashion per se, I just have an OCD with sizes LOL
