Humbert Allen Astredo (1929-2016) has passed away.

On Dark Shadows, he played Nicholas Blair, Charles Dawson, and Evan Handley.   He was also on many other soap operas in day roles.

An obituary will be posted later.

Sorry to hear this. While I know he had some regrets about the show later on, I loved his work as Nicholas Blair. He and Lara made some very thin scripts tolerable in the Cassandra/vampire Angelique period.

I'd never seen this before - it's a short interview toward the end of this, Joan Bennett talking about nearly being cast as Scarlett O'Hara. It's a few years before she died, and I tend to wonder if it was filmed when she was at a Dark Shadows convention, as I recognize the outfit.

TMC aired both Dark Shadows movies last night. The first "House Of Dark Shadows" was very good. The second , "Night Of Dark Shadows"...not so much. "House" kind of put the whole Barnabas saga in a nutshell, with better special effects and no bloopers. "Night" had no Barnabas, only Quentin as a lead, and a ponderous pace. It was interesting to see "Introducing Kate Jackson" in the credits, though.

I wonder how Dark Shadows would have been recieved by today's audience?

I think it would have just as rabid a (pardon the pun) fan base. The acting and writing still holds up.

House of Dark Shadows was on Turner Classic Movies yesterday, but I didn't record it!  :(  How does the movie compare with the original soap opera?
