I guess it depends on how you deal with it really... personally, I'm not really a people person, but there are those that are. Apparently the guy who owns the "real" Casa Walsh is very much someone who'll chat to people if he sees them stop to take pictures. I think he invited the woman who runs IAmNotAStalker.com into the house from memory.

A really bad rewrite of history. In season 1 Laura talks about how her Mom died when she was 12 and she had to be the one to take care of everyone. In another episode they show a flashback to her at her Mom's casket. When her Dad appears later in the season he thanks her for being there for him when she died and gives her money to bail Richard out of financial trouble.

I have been re-watching season 1. In episode 3 " Let Me Count The Ways" Karen contemplates an affair with Diana's young teacher David Crane. This episode screams late 70's with the sets, clothes, etc...David's apartment set is the same one used as Cliff Barnes during this time. I laugh when David and Karen go into the bedroom and there is a suggestive poster of melting ice cream cone.

It would have been interesting if David could have been brought back at some point.

David James Carroll who played the role of David later passed away in 1992 from complications of AIDS. I gather he was more of a Broadway star and only acted sporadically on TV.  I think I saw him on another soap at some point. Another World ?

As mentioned primetime soaps didn't really go back to past stories and characters to propel new plots

Sid's daughter, Abby's  ex Jeff, Judy Trent, Karen's brother and assorted others never came back to stir up trouble or provide story for the regulars.

Seems a missed opportunity in a lot of cases.

Did we ever learn about Val's father?

The only thing we knew about Val's father was he was older than Lillimae and was friends with her father. She mentions it in her visit in season 1.

I agree that those plots from early seasons of Knots & Dallas pretty much were forgotten after they played out. Heck, Knots divorced itself from Dallas after the dream fiasco.

Which was dumb, especially when these shows started shedding cast members left and right (although KNOTS managed to keep a lot of its cast intact for a long time). You'd think bringing back someone with connection to the canvas would be a good way to help transition the show, but it rarely happened.

    • One of the dumbest situations (Lando) ever. What audience member is going to invest in a storyline with a recast they don't like and a triangle where one character is short-term? It bombed as it should have done. So much of JFP's tenure just reeks of desperation. I don't get how someone could produce SB (which did have flaws but was often brilliant) but make so many terrible mistakes at GL.   I still think JFP would have worked better as a director and music supervisor. Her music work at SB was top notch.  It just seems that Rea was minimized during JFP's tenure because I can't imagine her okaying so many of these casting choices.

    • We see the same with GH, where Mark Teschner, the casting director, reportedly has less say since Frank Valentini took over. Some producers want to take over every aspect of their shows.  I think Lando may have been a CBS push.
    • No idea but she won Emmys & she was the Casting Director at the same time for both ATWT & GL. She hired Lisa Brown with no job for her. Then Marland made Brown his muse so he created both Iva & Nola for her. But, I think we know that Jill does what Jill wants.
    • I did notice a decline in the quality of the performers being cast once Betty R vacated/retired from her position. We would have been spared from the nightmares of some of the castings that dominated the show in the last decade or so of the soap. JFP was an example of someone, no matter the gender, who had no business being in the position they were in.
    • If Betty Rea was the casting director, why was so much of GL during JFP's reign cast by her? Walker, Deas, Crampton, Lando, etc. JFP takes credit for Dusay as well. What is the point of having a casting director, if you don't let her do her job? What happened when Rea left?
    • So much on here slips my mind but this is the first I remember hearing of Peterson's passing. Very sad. Nell was a thankless role, clearly set up for a cheating storyline with Frank, but Peterson did her best.  Betty Rea Rea was the casting director for the soap opera “Guiding Light” from 1970 to 1996 and simultaneously the casting director for “As the World Turns” from 1979 to 1983.
    • Sorry, just one more post on the Thorntons. How did Ruth and Edna feel about each other prior to Tad dating Dotty?
    • I can't remember exactly but I think it may be 1995 as Jake was trying to hide from a loan shark.
