The B&B Production Revolution

Considering B&B gets to use L.A. and sunny California as their reality (which means they can step right outside their doors and shoot, unlike GL and ATWT for the most part, unless those characters run off to NYC for the millionth time) you'd think it would be easier for them. For some reason, "outdoor LA" looks fakey to me. Aside from the beach, which I missed, what I've seen doesn't really look all that good. And it's not shot well. Half the time the actors are in shadows or squinting. And the new music...ugh. I cringe every time that stupid song underscores a Katie/Nick scene.

I guess it's different strokes for different folks. I'm enjoying B&B a lot lately. I actually like the writing and am enjoying most of everything.

And yes, the production model is still a work in progress, but I think it's miles better than GL and a lot more reminiscent of a UK soap. The analogy of growing out your hair and having that 'looks odd' phase is a perfect one. The model isn't finished and needs a bit of finessing, but I like it.

I think the show should be able to survive without her, but it isn't helping at the moment. She can't be kept on the payroll and then be excluded from storylines that she should be a part of, regardless of whose choice it is. She's either there or she isn't. Stephanie Forrester is not a supporting character and never could be. It goes against everything she's been written as for the past 21 years.

B&B needs a serious refocusing, and I don't think Bradley or any of the Y&R cast-offs are the right people to do the job. The show has always been inconsistent, it would be nice to have some consistency, you know?

Oh, and I agree, this is probably the worst state I've ever seen B&B in, and there's been so many horrible eras with this show. I feel like there's a mandate to change the show's identity and it's showing, and obviously isn't for the better.

Maybe because it's so much of a rehash of the Brooke/Nick/Bridget triangle, and the Brooke/Nick/Taylor triangle as well. Once again, you have the whole "Nick is in love with two women and marries one, but longs for the other" scenario, and when you add the fact that Bridget is again the doormat, you have a story that's bad and recycled. Add to that the way it was rushed onto the scene via Storm's death and Katie's heart transplant and the horrible dialog - "this baby is amazing, because it was born in the purest, most honest form of love" - and it becomes even worse.

And that's painfully apparent in the current story, where it doesn't make sense for her to be a supporting character or MIA. Having Stephanie missing while Eric is in a heart-attack induced coma without some kind of explanation is just absurd. Look at last week, where Ridge called the big family meeting and included everybody. Yet Stephanie was missing, with the lame excuse being that she wasn't answering her cell phone. Even if that was the case, there should have been some follow-up to let her know how dire Eric's condition and for her to learn what Ridge almost did. Instead, we get to see Donna and Owen dancing.

That might be because "outdoor L.A.", other than the beach scenes that you missed, is an outdoor set at CBS Television City and not really on location. They have a feature on the new Forrester Sky Lounge set in the new SOD and they mention that almost all the outdoor stuff is filmed there, and that the cabana scenes from last week and the outdoor restaurant where Brooke and Ridge dined a while back are actually the sky lounge redressed. Outdoor scenes seemed a lot better when they really went outside the studio, like the beach scenes, or the scenes a couple of years ago when Bridget and Nick spent a fun afternoon at The Grove (the shopping center/mall behind CBS Television Studio).

    • She did have a thing with him in the late '90s, before she inexplicably disappeared with no mention as to why, although I can't remember if they had sex.
    • I don't believe she did. She did sleep with Simon, believing he was a Spaulding.
    • -- If I ever get sick, please don't send me to Garland Memorial. That hospital is a YIKES. -- Soooo much activity around the main nurses' desk. Do they move dead people on a gurney past that desk, too? -- 8 months for Bill to recover from a "small stroke"? Uh....I don't think so. Is anyone researching this stuff? The hospital stuff is not coming off as realistic. -- It's good that Derek and Ashley are being integrated into other stories, but it's a real stretch to say Leslie was "stalking" Ashley. It makes Derek seem dumber than we already think he is. -- Ashley spends a lot of time having small talk while she's at work. -- Chelsea is embarrassing. Period. -- Tomas is supposed to pick up the slack for Bill, but he has time to have worthless conversations with Leslie? OK then. -- Kat is destroying the case against Leslie, but that's clearly the way to keep Leslie on the canvas.
    • 6-3   I almost let my system just delete the episode just like with B&B. I am now questioning if I should have. lol.   I just can't believe that Cole sat there and started to get sick and then only Victoria off and ran off and everyone basically went back to what they were doing at Nikki's birthday party. Cole was too much of a vet character for that. And now story back off-screen.   I did chuckle at how much Victor pay Kyle dust. And now Kyle with this deal and a promise to leave town if he hurts Claire. smh. As if Victor isn't going to make that happen.   It was lovely to see Ashley. And actually (misdressed and all) Abby.    And I liked Claire's dress.
    • Oh. That. I pretend that never happened.

I did think of another possibility. Did India ever sleep with Alan? They kind of toyed with pairing them up, but I'm not sure they ever became lovers.
    • While I do love the chaotic energy that is Kat vs Lesile, it is a bit extra. Sheltered, virginal Kat who plays it safe from her man to her wardrobe understands that Leslie is dangerous, but she's out here showing up everywhere and anywhere that Lesile is to be found and actively going to places where she is alone? I mean Kat doesn't even act a little afraid or intimidated by Leslie. Meanwhile, big Ole Derek out here begging for his and Ashley's life to Jacob.  As for Dani, I didn't see it that way. Dani and Bill were together for 30 years and shared a family. I believe there was real love there at one point. Bill is still an ass and Dani is still crazy, but realizing she may lose him and her daughter's may lose their dad definitely struck a chord.
    • Funny I randomly saw Kami’s lengthy post about the 44th anniversary of the Walton’s finale last week pop up in my news feed on Facebook. A few inaccuracies to her post but overall it was pretty insightful and interesting to read.
    • Well, depending on rewrites...Jennifer Richards potentially slept with Brandon and Alan. It does feel like we're forgetting someone, but then again, maybe I'm confusing that with brothers, which would include a lot more.
    • Maybe it’s me, and the fact that RC isn’t at the helm, but since Cwikly and Ford have taken over I’ve noticed the show doing a lot of things differently directing wise, and since the storyline of John’s demise began, the show has been using different scores, and dare I say better ones than this time last year. It’s interesting and I wonder if the any of it is Noel Maxam’s influence before being promoted.
    • I think Nicole is about to figure out what's going on between Andre and Dani.
