Onwards and upwards we go. Time for part 3 of the countdown of favourite characters, and now we will pass the halfway point. And just like with Chas Dingle (#42) we now find a character that probably would have ended up higher if I'd done this earlier...

But without further ado, here are the characters ranked 21-30.

Spoiler

30. Lynn Whiteley (Fionnuala Ellwood), 1989-90, 1990, 1991-94

29. Elizabeth Feldmann (Kate Dove), 1990-93

28. Archie Brooks (Tony Pitts), 1983-85, 1986-89, 1990-93

27. Jessie Renfrew (Kathleen Helme), 1978, 1979, 1981, 1983

26. Kim Tate (Claire King), 1989-99, 2018, 2019-

25. Bernice Blackstock (Samantha Giles), 1998-2002, 2004, 2012-19, 2021-

24. Caroline Bates (Diana Davies), 1984-89, 1990, 1991-92, 1993, 1994-95, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1999

23. Christopher Tate (Peter Amory), 1989-2003

22. Jack Sugden (Andrew Burt/Clive Hornby), 1972-73, 1976, 1980-88, 1989-2008

21. Rev. Donald Hinton (Hugh Manning), 1977-89, 1993

More wonderful picks @I Am A Swede very  glad to see Lynn, Archie and Terry  pop up. I guess Kim is your character  who would have been higher? At least her last few years haven't been as bad as her 2018  return.

  • Member

Yes, Kim is indeed the character I was referring to. Her fabulous original run, with its perfect ending, has unfortunately been tainted by her return. But I agree that it has improved slightly since that 2018 run, which was just bad on so many levels....

@I Am A Swede More picks I'm all in for. So many treasures. I still miss characters like Edna and Ashley, and always will.

Speaking of that,  John Middleton was recently on a podcast with director Lee Salisbury. Among other  comments he  cautions about how stunt-heavy the soaps have become.

Amen to that!!

I'm sure you can figure out who will feature in my top 10 already (though I won't post it until tomorrow), but maybe not the exact order.   ^_^

And so, we come at last to the final installment in the list of my top 50 favourite characters in Emmerdale (Farm) history. These 10 were the easiest to pick out of them all. There was never any doubt in my mind that these are my all-time favourite characters and the only (tiny) difficulty was deciding which order they should appear in. Except for #1, that spot was the easiest one of them all.

So, here they are, the characters that I rank from 1 to 10 in Emmerdale (Farm) history

Spoiler

10. Laurel Thomas (Charlotte Bellamy), 2002-04, 2005-

Ouch, this looks painful....

Spoiler

embargo 2000 17102022 sam dingle injured in emmerdale

It might not have been my first choice for a casualty (and obviously we don't know yet if it's gonna end up that way), but any dead Dingle is a good Dingle.   ^_^

Whoa! I don't think I've ever seen a death that gory on a soap.

But why that Dingle?! That person was one of the few Dingles that I liked.

It's not certain that it will result in a death. (Although looking at it it's hard to see how it couldn't, but hey....it's a soap.)

Personally I don't care which Dingle dies, as long as a Dingle (or preferably several Dingles) dies.
