Thanks for posting that. It was interesting.

I'm not sure I agree with the example of Rosie Webster. They have repeatedly given reasons for her having money (she got tens of thousands of pounds from John Stape before it was embezzled from her; then she started working as a model and was the face of an ad campaign). I do agree with him about the Peacocks. They had a whole story about how they were going broke and then it was like oh, well they sold a few old Beatles programs found in the attic, so we won't mention this money struggle ever again.

This isn't new for Corrie. In the early 70s their new producer Susi Hush made the actresses stop wearing fancy jewelry and getting nice hairdos because she said it was not realistic to the nature of the show. A few years later, when Pat Phoenix/Elsie Tanner returned to the show, another new producer told her he would only let her come back if she would agree to tone down her look, as it was not realistic for Elsie. She agreed, but on the first day of filming, she showed up in a designer raincoat. She told the producer that she was a role model for a lot of impoverished women and she wanted to inspire them.

I can see where Tony Warren would be annoyed about lack of realism but I think there are more pressing problems. IMO the most expensive props are Kym Marsh and Anthony Cotton.

I tuned into Roy & Hayley's wedding eps, and they definitely show an improvement. I recommend watching from there, especially the second ep, which is really good. Then, I didn't bother to follow them up, and the last ep I watched was this Monday's, where Molly gave birth, and again, it showed the show has made significant changes for the better. It's not as bad as it was. Corrie's not on fire or anything, and its yet to coax me into wanting to watch regularly again, but episodes are no longer painful to sit through.

So yeah, give it another go and see what you think.

A long trailer for the BBC4 movie on the beginnings of Corrie:

That promo is really good! I'm glad Tony Warren is still here to see this. I'm sure it must be bittersweet, since his Corrie experience was horrible for a number of years, through homophobia, and a lot of personal problems. This looks beautifully put together and sadly it reminds me more of the Corrie I know than anything the show has done in the last few years.

    • I'm hoping that the new studio might have more space, meaning extra sets could be permanently erected. Perhaps the current  set issues are due to limited space available at Television City as it shuts down for the redevelopment. But if more space means spending more $$$ we might be stuck with the current situation no matter where they move.
    • Thanks @P.J. If my math is correct, Jordan Clarke runs were 1983-1987, 1989-1993, 1997-end.
    • I was/am mainlining both the Dream Season and Season 7 of KL together, since that was the year of their big creative swap. That's the most I can take of Dallas consecutively. But I've been very preoccupied with other shows and work IRL and I need to get back to it after a long break from my Knots binge.
    • Wk 1 95/96 MSW moves to Thurs, Cybill takes the Sunday slot. Thurs 8-9pm NBC Friends #3 20.5/33 The Single Guy #6 19.2/30 CBS Murder She Wrote #55 9.3/15 ABC Charlie Grace #74 7.6/12 FOX Living Single # 78 7.2/12 The Crew #80 7.0/11 Sunday 8-9pm NBC Mad about You # 15 14.6/23 Hope & Gloria #35 11.7/18 ABC Lois & Clark # 38 11.4/18 CBS Cybill #49 9.8/15 Almost Perfect #65 8.1/12 FOX Space Above & Beyond (2nd hr of 2hr episode) #51 9.5/15 60 Minutes was #19 so a lot of viewers didn't stay for Cybill. On Sunday, Sept. 24, CBS finished third on the night, and its performance among 18 -49 year olds was worse than it was with the older skewing Murder, She Wrote in the time period last year.  So moving MSW was a foolish move at that point. It was compatible with 60 Minutes and would probably have finished Top 20-25 for the week. They should have left Sunday alone and concentrated on other nights..
    • I’ve been watching Knots and FC rather compulsively for a while now. Currently in fall 1983 with both. I had Dallas in there, too, but I am rather shocked at how stale that show gets after Jock’s death. Meanwhile, I can spend hours in the vineyards and in the cul-de-sac.
    • What will actually change though? Does this mean the sets will be different too? Or how exactly is this gonna look like to the viewers?
    • I'm not sure Passions is the model to emulate here.
    • Passions had Chad sleeping with his cousin nephew Vincent, ironically played by Daphne Duplaix (disguised as Valerie)

    • @Errol confirmed JFP is back in a non-producing role.
    • Same tbh. His brother got all the attention as he got older and hotter but Eric I like best. I need to get back to this show.
