GL/AMC: I take it no one saw this about Beth Elhers?

If we are to believe it, both Ellen Wheeler and Chris Goutman have become evil tyrants...and I'm having a very hard time believing that.

See, I'm not really having that tough a time. Ever since MADD and Bill Graham left P&G, and their jobs weren't really replaced, they really have nobody to keep them in check. Sure, they have Barbara Bloom and CBS all the way out in California, and Richard Mensing here in NYC. But ATWT is out in Midwood and GL is in Peapack - it's not like ABC with AMC or OLTL where it's across the street/a couple blocks between studio and network execs. They're isolated out in the middle of nowhere on both accounts, and therefore most of the time, call all the shots without anyone questioning it or forcing them to rethink their strategy.

Okay, I'll buy that they have become tyrants :-). But that is a change, since they were once so loved by their casts...and I don't think that was just for show.

So you're in New York, eh? No wonder you are so industry astute :-).

I don't feel bad for her. She was treated like an employee of any company who leaves, whether they've been there for 2 or 20 years. That's how she would've been treated at my company.

People who foresee themselves as jobless with the next few months/years can be that desperate and despicable. The disdain they now show for the audience is probably reflective of their corporate bosses and I'm sure they want to look good in their eyes so that when ATWT and GL are put out of their miseries they will be shifted elsewhere in the company.

I get what you're saying, LoyaltoAMC...but to not have the opportunity to remove one's personal items from her dressing room? That just feels so...unnecessary. It's not as if the show would find another use for BE's stuff, would they? (On second thought, as cash-strapped as GL is these days, BE shouldn't be surprised to look up one day and see GT wearing one of her sweaters on the show.)

If this is Ellen, then she seriously needs a reality check. You've got tons of people deserting your product because of behavior like this and the fact your writing team can't craft a good long-term story or meaningful couples to root for on a daily basis. DK still has his good days, but it was clear toward the end he had run out of steam.

If this is P&G talking, then Cincinnati needs to get out of the soap business and let CBS have a crack at these shows.

Word, that's exactly where I'm coming from. The truth is once RPG left GL, she was going to jump ship. Besides, how would P&G know that she was bringing her kids. I like Beth Ehlers, but the way she's been acting the last couple of years have been odd.

Was it truly necessary to bring an escort? Probably not.

But giving the circumstances, like I said my sympathy just isn't there.

Oh and let me expand...

Ehlers came on a Sunday to get her things? A FORMER employee coming on a SUNDAY, when the offices are typically SHUT DOWN?

Everyone is bashing P&G and Co. but all we've heard is BE side of the story, and the article seems biased as it is.

That's my thinking. That's standard operating procedure at most companies. Yes, it's still uncomfortable but so is a lot of what happens in business. Whether you're fired or leave on good terms, come 5:00 you are no longer an employee. Your security badge stops working, your passwords get changed, you come off the website/intranet and you don't get to walk around the office unescorted. I left my past employer on great terms and I actually had to remind HR to shut down my access

Honestly, I was surprised to read that what happened to BE was considered unusual.

I am! I've got friends who work in the industry. Not necessarily soaps, but television. Friends of friends of friends, kinda thing. Enough that I hear conversations, but not enough that I know anything too juicy.

Are you suggesting Carolyn Hinsey has biases? :)

It's not Beth who's been odd, but P&G. How the heck is she supposed to act when they not only destroyed RPG's character, but hers as well? No one on the outside even knows for sure just how bad the whole environment is, but I've detected a seriously bad vibe for years.

Well the article is pretty much used to highlight Beth Ehlers as the poor victim, and P&G as the evil ones.

They've both been odd. Ehlers performance has been widely inconsistent, and her complete devotion for everything Goldin is strange. She's been acting like Harley could not exist without Gus, when she's been on the show YEARS before him. It truly is irksome. And now she is pretty much jumping from one sinking ship to another.
