OLTL: OMFG, Fortieth Anniversary Spoilers From TV Guide

Blast From the Past

Long before Passions came along, One Life To Live was Daytime's wildest soap......especially back in the Reagan era, when Viki(Erika Slezak) had an out of body experience during brain surgery and wound up on a space ship to heaven. To celebrate the ABC soap's 40th anniversary next month, OLTL head writer Ron Carlivati will revisit the celestial 1987 plot by having Vicki die........just momentarily of course! "This time, heaven will be a very modern high rise.......Vicki will go up the elevator encountering all sorts of dead characters along the way," said Carlivati. Among the former stars making angelic returns are Phil Carey(Asa), Mark Derwin(Ben), Stephen Markle(Mel), and Jessica Tuck(Megan). OLTL's legendary creator, Agnes Nixon, will also appear in heaven. That's not all. Carlivati will redo the famous 80's plot where Tina(Andrea Evans) survived a plunge over the Iguazu Falls in Argentina, only this time, creepy Carlo(Thom Christopher) will force Tina to watch in horror as he sends her daughter Sarah(Justis Bolding) over a waterfall. Fan favorite John Loprieno will return as Tina's ex-hubby Cord. And remember the time Clint(then Clint Richie) was knocked unconscious and time-traveled to the Wild West? Carlivati will riff on that plot too. "Bo(Robert S. Woods) and Rex(John-Paul Lavoiser) are hit by lightning and wake up in 1968............the same year OLTL hit the air," Carlivati say. The kicker: Bo has become his pop, Asa, and Rex has become the young Bo. All three homages air July 21-22, but the Bo-Rex twist will play out for several weeks, maybe with dire consequences. Say Carlivati: "If they can't find their way back to the future, Rex will be drafted and sent to Vietnam."

Oh yeah. Classic, classic, classic SOAP at its best. I am so excited about what RC is doing with OLTL. (Thank you from the bottom of my soapy heart, Ron!)

As a viewer from day 1 it is just SO cool- beyond cool - that he is using history so well. I loved all the stories they did, Spaceship to Heaven, Old West and even Eterna. The 40th Anniversary show(s) will be DVR'd -permanently. I wish they'd put some of the old shows- especially this one (hint hint) out on DVDs.

OMG...I am just so excited that OLTL is doing such fantastic stuff....after suffering through the Higley years...dayum, we deserve it!!

Yeah I hope OLTL becomes ABC's number 1 soap, hopefully that then would wake up one of the hacks in charge to how a GOOD soap is done........

Damnit I want a RC for AMC, can we steal him away? :P:D

Yes, let's steal him. I mean if we can steal babies we can steal headwriters from other shows!

that would be great bc over the years it has gotten the most disrespect out of the 3. GH is the network's crown jewel and AMC can do no wrong even when its bad. OLTL has to fight for scraps. Im so glad its finally rocking again and regardless of what ratings say, it is the BEST show on the network.. It deserves to be #1

And I love this quote from Ron, "Our 40th anniversary deserved more than just a clip montage.........we're retelling classic stories."

More reasons why this man is amazing, and people just hate on him and OLTL because they're jealous.

I love Carlivati's quote, especially how he bashes GH without bashing them, if you know what I mean.

Exactly. GH's "tribute" was a disgrace. I'm excited for how all of this will play out.

You all have convinced me to return to my OLTL roots. OLTL was the first soap I watched, but GH got me with their long list of actors that I couldn't tune away from. Through all that, OLTL was there and now it will be there when I need it most.

Awesome stuff coming up.

I have just learned of one other small return coming soon to OLTL. Look for Madame Delphina to predict the Cramer women's futures in a few weeks. Remember that she was Dorian's favorite physic.........she last aired in 1999, although I'm not sure if this go around she will be portrayed by the original actress.

Damn! I never expected this! SO awesome! Ron Carlivati is GOD! Why can't we clone him 7 times? I also swear to god if Frons ever gets rid of the man I'll scream ...

I believe I know what Delphina's return is about. I just wish it would end properly this time. It's another revisit of the past, but this time it's in one of the maybe two stories on the show that I don't like.

Hrmm I'm largely thrilled but a bit more mixed than some on here (and don't any of you call me a fan who must not know his history or any such nonsense *glare*). It's about time the show got a proper anniversary. I know when malone came we got a week of flashbacks (which wasn't a anniversary but similar) in 1992 I wanna say--but otherwise OLTL hasn't had a decent anniversary episode in a long time (AMC usually egts the best though I was a bit let down by their last one too). Yeah I'd kinda prefer if they revisited stories from all the eras--though it's true all those characters are largely gone--maybe we can still hope for a quick Judith Light cameo (though I dont' think her character really died so why would she be in heaven?)

It does seem dangerous to revisit the Wild West plot though one that, unliek the waterfall and Heaven, NO ONE really liked much. Rauch era OLTL was good when Peggy O'Shea, Sam Hall's old associate, was writing even with the camp but when she left and was replaced solo by S. Michael Schnessel midway through 1987 I think it just became a bit too out of touch with reality--under O'Shea you still had a balance. ANyway I dunno a time travel story, whether it's done as a dream or not, lasting for several weeks seems risky to me--but I admit it could be gold despite my reservations...

I wonder if Vicki will see her dad in Heaven? if so he certainly won't be as pleasnt as last time (I think he was in Heaven anyway can't remember...)--I still want to find out what that revealtion about him Dorian told Vicki at Asa's funeral was...

I am NOT too thrilled about hearing about Tess coming back aroudn the anniversary though... It's just too soon (if ever) for me to revist more Jess/Tess even if with Jessica's current state it does make sense.

Still congrats OLTL--i never thought I'd see you in such good shape on your 40th (i recently foudn my tape of OLTL's 35th anniversary episode... hardly classic stuff)

^I pretty much agree all around

except is tess coming back out? or is that rumblings going around? I have not read that for fact anywhere yet.

  • Member

SOrry I thought I read it on the same list but now can't find it--it woudl make sense for Tess to come out and hgelp get Jessica's "revenge" on Jared and all but I'm just so sick of Tess, even with a good writer handling it I'm not too excited...
