Frankly, cassadine, I don't think so. As I've said upthread, PC was just desperate to gain traction with the viewers. They needed something -- ANY thing -- to get people talking about the show and get them out from under GH's long shadow. Short of a true, visionary EP and HW'ing team, I think PC's cancellation was inevitable.

It seems like all the soaps in this time slot never could make it loving the city ect

It also felt like the beginning it was more family oreniated and had more of an ensemble.I feel like the time it ended it became the Alision/Rafe/Livvie/Caleb show that said I thought it was stupid of RC to have all the vampire crap be an hallcanation in lucy's mind.

I think if anything the turn to supernatural prolonged PC more than ended it.

The problem was that the later arcs were just not good abd much like when the main story sucks on a soap it hurt the series, but PC didn't have the supporting stories to keep (most) people that didn't like the main one.

I liked early PC better. I stopped watching when they got into that supernatural crap becuz i didnt find it interesting. I felt it was too much of a departure and I personally didnt think being so closely tied to mother show GH was what hindering PC. AT TIMES Pc wrote GH history better than GH itself.

I wish they had had more cross-overs and i still have a soft spot for Mary Scanlon. I liked seeing Lee and Gail and amanda barrington. I wish they had crossed Katherine bell over at least to come toe-to-toe with rex stanton.

I wish Neal and Serena had grown on the show. I wish they did something with Chris Ramsey and Courtney (dont remember her last name but i loved sarah aldrich as a bitch).

I wish they hadnt gotten rid of the interns one by one. I wish Ellen Burgess had been given more airtime. I wish they kept jake marshak and develop his romance with Danielle.

I wish the show brought Jagger as angst for Joe and Karen.

I think there were so much missed opportunities with PC that going the supernatural road was a silly gimmick

Considering the Bordisso stuff was so convoluted i dont blame anyone for not having a clue of what it was all about. I doubt the writers had a clue themselves.

Eve was a part time hooker to pay for med school which is when she initially met DV. Dv was introduced when Lucy started the Serena clothing line (i think) and to somehow get back at.scott he tried to tank it by having it involved with child labour scandal. He didnt know scott was his son cuz meg(scott's bio mom) left him without telling him but held him responsible for his split with Meg (again i think not sure).

It got evne more convoluted becuz DV and kevin's father Victor had beene

Experimenting with spy stuff and mind control.

There is some stuff from 1999 on youtube from DV's time. In the credits, Robert Guza is listed as storyline consultant so take from that what you will.

I spent a little time watching bits and pieces from the show this week on youtube. I was never an ABC fan until SoapNet arrived and then I sampled a little bit of everything. "Port Charles" was always the easiest because it was only a half-hour.

From the first go around, I don't remember the early PC episodes being very interesting, but rewatching some of it, I found some of it was more effective than I remembered. I enjoyed parts of the premier episode. The speech that the interns deliver to Greg Cooper about agreeing to keep mum about what happened was very Richard Culliton. I thought they integrated the old and the new well (the Scanlons lived in the same neighborhood as Rhonda Wexler, Greg's family knew Dr. Hardy, etc.) I don't agree with a lot of the casting. Michael Dietz is competent, but I don't get the sense he's the hot head it's implied he is suppose to be based on the conversation with Alan Quartermaine. Similarly, Jennifer Hammon is given a lot of baggage to play in the opening episodes with Scott, and the stripping, and Lee's wrangling. Maybe it's unfair to judge so soon, but I think someone with a little more oomph could have made that role a bit more compelling. That said, I remember really enjoying Hammon the first go around.

And yet some of the other roles were perfectly cast. Pinson is solid in these early episodes as a snarky go-getter while Ramsey plays the spoiled cad well. In my viewing, I also caught Eve crashing at Chris' after Karen kicks her out when it was revealed Eve had slept with Bennett Devlin. Eve and Chris were delightful together. I remember the last time the show really played Eve and Chris was during "Time in a Bottle" when Eve learned she was pregnant and contemplated raising the child with Chris.

Lisa Ann Hadley is to be commended for really running with whatever they through at her. She seemed fine as the poor little rich girl at the start and managed to hang on to her dignity when they first accused of her being the General Homicide killer. I saw some stuff from her sanity hearing with Nolan North's Chris which stood out because it was surrounded by the mind altering adventures of Eve, Kevin, and DV.

Lynn Herring seems more at home playing this early material than some of the more overwrought material Karen Harris and Barbara Bloom gave her. The Lucy / Scott / Kevin dynamic was much more compelling than I remember. I think the set up of the kidnapping was a bit much, but the overall arc is interesting. I had forgotten Scott's car accident had happened so early on.

I didn't care for the General Homicide stuff I saw. It all seemed heavy on plot. I could almost tolerate the DV stuff more because of some of the lighter moments. At one point, Kevin and Lucy have led Eve to believe that they are sleeping together in order to protect Eve, how I don't really know. Anyway, it led to a very nice quiet moment between Kevin and Lucy where Lucy comments that its been a year since Kevin walked in on Lucy and Scott together and how they never really resolved this situation. It was nice and Lynn Herring played Lucy's mixed emotions well.

I wonder what the original plan was for Rachel Locke and when they decided to incorporate Grace and Livvie. Rachel was introduced under Hammer I think, and the Livvie stuff played out when Harris and Bloom were writing. It seems to flow well, but I am curious about the quickly dropped connection to Ellen and the connection to DV.

I wish they hadn't gone with the arcs. I thought "Secrets" was the best as it told a story in 13 weeks and moved on.

I enjoyed the "General Homicide" mess for a while, but what baffled me is it seemed to go on for what felt like 18 months as everyone on the show and their mom said, "it must be Greg Cooper and that crazy Julie!" Greg Cooper was supposed to be responsible for everything bad on the show, so I naturally thought, well, these two are obviously red herrings. But no! After all that, it was Greg Cooper and Julie! Ridiculous. And the DV story was awful. They were psychic spies? What?

I thought the whole incorporation of Kevin's backstory - Grace, Rachel Locke, etc. - was masterful, but the Ellen angle they dropped absolutely infuriated me as a kid. I loved Debbi Morgan, and even though she wasn't playing the role anymore I cared about Ellen.

I am watching early PC (I am in September '97) I am seeing why Danielle and Jake didn't last long. The story could have been interesting if the acting wasn't blah. Don't get me wrong Renee Allman (Griffin?) and Rib Hillis are beautiful creatures that would have done an amazing job as replacements of Billy Warlock and Erika Eleniak on Baywatch.
It seemed like Rex and Danielle had a very weird relationship like Danielle was a sugar baby to Rex. I will keep watching to see if it will click with me. I also find it strange that I find the character who was supposed to be an actor a terrible actor.

The only thing that saves it is Lynn Herring, Jon Lindstrom, and Kin Shriner. I find Wayne Northrop wasted in this story (Rex reminds me of Sideshow Bob especially when he starts playing that damn classical music.)

Everything else I really love.

Also, Audrey appears like 2 times since the premiere.

    • In my usual account on my most used video hosting site with the video title  DAYS 1-8-15 Will & Paul Sex This is an edit I began when I was first teaching myself to edit & at that time I couldn't make it do what I wanted it to do. I pulled it up & finished it this morning.
    • Or Megan is shot as retaliation for Dave's unpaid gambling debts...while Julie confesses she's the biological mother of Special Guest Star Barry Bostwick's little boy.
    • Finland seemed such an odd choice for a location shoot. ATWT went to Greece and later Spain while GL had Tenerife and there were others in that timeframe. But Finland not being a known tourist destination or offering the tropical/sunny atmosphere usually associated with location shoots seems off brand. Maybe they were negotiating a deal with a tourist association and it fell through.
    • I was talking about 1986, but the glimpses of 1982 are about the same.
    • I skimmed some of the 1982 synopses; Steve was planning on an opening an office in Finland, and I think Jim went there as part of the preparation. That probably was a big issue; AW had already gone to San Diego that year, with Rachel/Steve/Mitch. And to upstate NY with Pete and Diana. I wonder if upstate was as expensive lol  AW in 1982 has always fascinated me, because of how messy it was
    • That makes sense. What a messy time for the show. And any changes they made were mostly for the worse.
    • The transition from Neal to Adam was very abrupt, and to be honest my theory is that the character of Neal was designed so that we think he is super shady but then it turns out that he was on the side of good all along so Neal could have seamlessly become a hero of the BCPD with no need for Adam. I don't know whether Robert Lupone was hired on a short contract or if he was fired from a longer-term contract because they decided they wanted someone who was more of a leading man type, but I can imagine a scenario where Charles Grant did both the undercover Egyptian treasure/flirt with Victoria and the straighter-arrow day to day police investigation. But in my imagined scenario the MJ prostitution plotline probably doesn't exist and instead he probably continues a relationship with Victoria. The story seems very odd to me. I assume that David Canary would have been included only because a plotline where Steve is going to Finland in which only Rachel is seen in actual Finland seems unlikely. The synopses explicitly mention that Alice can't go with Steve but would whoever was playing Alice at that time have had the kind of clout to get the remote cancelled? It also strikes me as unlikely that production would have approved the expensive location shoot and *then* cancelled it only because of jealousy. It seems more likely that they rejected it because of the expense but then the jealousy part got added to the gossip speculatively, possibly because while it was being worked out they justified not including more castmembers because of the expense.
    • My comment has nothing to do with cast resentment, but does relate to the Finland location shoot: It may be a coincidence, but Jim Matthews died in Finland in 1982.  Hugh Marlowe's final episode was in April 1982, but the character probably didn't die untll May or June. (I'm unable to find the character's date of death, only the date of Marlowe's final episode). SInce Jim and Rachel had very little interaction after around 1975, it is unlikely Jim's death in Finland had any connection to Rachel's potential visit, but the choice to have Jim die in that location at that time is a head-scratcher.  I'm sure the writers sent Jim on an extended trip (and off-screen) because of Marlowe's illness.  But Finland seems like a strange choice considering the (then) recently cancelled location shoot.
    • I totally understand your sloths concern about it and I agree with you. Let’s hope the show plays it’s cards right.    Further comments about the last few episodes: - I liked that one of the attendees was filming the scene. That’s realistic. I wonder if the writers will follow up with that.  - Martin and Smitty trying to drag Leslie out was very heteronormative, so perfectly in line with them two as characters lol.    As for the future: it’s obvious the Duprees will come to accept Eva one way or another, but the rivalry with Kay should be here for the long term   On the topic of acting: the only bad actors I’m seeing are Ted and Derek. Tomas hasn’t proven to be either good or bad, so far, but he’s certainly mediocre and uncharismatic. He sucks the energy out of the scenes and I don’t see any couple of women ever vying for him.
    • I’m trying to think which actors VW were working with at the time, and none of them had been there for a while. Even like Mac and Ada didn’t have that big of a part in Rachel’s storyline.  And Jamie was involved with all that movie stuff.
