The arc in itself was pointless, just like Maggie being adopted on Falcon Crest. Ultimately, the only thing that would've made it matter is if it changed her relationship with Sydney since she put up a lot of crap with her because they were sisters. So being adopted would've given Jane leverage in theory the next time Sydney started pulling her bullshit again. Same thing with Maggie and Terry on Falcon Crest.

But Jane left soon after, and no it was never acknowledged again.

The Sherry Larson story was a waste of time. Donna had next to nothing to do and no fire in the part. I would never have known what a force she was had I not watched KL (and some of her GH work was good, at least her performance). It also was a very strange and abrupt pivot in story, where Jane had begun turning unhinged over Jake and Alison and suddenly was embroiled with her alcoholic mom. Her deranged antics were swept under the rug (though in the end that was probably for the best for Jane).

It was a classic case of season 5's issue with attempting to be grounded but it had gone too far at that point to properly be so. See also Kimberly's brain cancer and the endless will-she-or-won't-she-die. Or Jake and Alison's boring relationship from hell.

Someone once described season 5 as being at a "break-neck speed and daytime slow" at the same time, which is somewhat impressive I guess. But it's stuck with me because it's so oddly accurate.

I don't think I've shared this, but more than a decade ago... I learned English while watching Melrose place from beginning to end multiple times. I would watch it while studying the language... and that helped me improve my vocabulary. I was just a kid back then. But now... instantly after hearing the promo I'm back to me in my room writing words I don't know down... and looking them up later on google. Such a nice memory. It's so sad that so many years later there isn't a true HD version of it. I want to see it again, but the quality they offer is just... the same it used to be decades ago.

Reading that interview with Donna Mills just makes me wish even more that there was more LIAMST floating around.  It says a lot that the network trusted two, young, relatively inexperienced actresses like Mills and Leslie Charleson to carry an entire show.

I think the Sherry story was cooked up last minute because Josie Bissett opted to leave the show for personal reasons.  It would explain why the Jane stalking Jake/Allison story was dropped and ended so badly.

I think Donna did as much as she could with the role, and it was a shame there wasn't other adult oriented dramas that could have cast her in a recurring basis (she had opted to pull back on acting somewhat because she had adopted and was focusing on being a mother).

Thomas Calabro coming to Heather saying "So you're the soap person" and her replying with "... and now you are"

We've sort of gotten hints over the years that he took himself way too seriously as an ac-tor at the beginning of the show. I'm a bit peeved they're releasing this in two parts though, but I can't wait for the next episode.

How did I not know of these? I'm enjoying listening to Doug's episode. Matt was my favorite character for obvious reasons because he represented me. Matt was so sweet and adorable. I was so disappointed that the kiss was so hyped and never shown. Of course, this was the early 90s.

Who is the actor that was uncomfortable playing gay with Doug? I need to go back and watch the episodes again.

I think we're at a good moment finally, in terms of which episodes they're covering. Once Heather joins, the Alison/Billy/Amanda storyline goes full steam ahead. Episode 22 through the end is when the pace ramps up and the tension builds and it becomes a full-fledged continuing soapy drama.

It's nice to know that in hindsight, Grant wishes he hadn't taken himself so seriously. Thomas seems to be the one that isn't into the whole nostalgic, walk-down-memory-lane kinda guy.

Chuck Pratt is coming onto the show - I'm not sure if they're going to resume recaps for a bit though.

ETA: sounded on them like they're going to resume recaps a bit and bring in Chuck a bit later.

    • My comment has nothing to do with cast resentment, but does relate to the Finland location shoot: It may be a coincidence, but Jim Matthews died in Finland in 1982.  Hugh Marlowe's final episode was in April 1982, but the character probably didn't die untll May or June. (I'm unable to find the character's date of death, only the date of Marlowe's final episode). SInce Jim and Rachel had very little interaction after around 1975, it is unlikely Jim's death in Finland had any connection to Rachel's potential visit, but the choice to have Jim die in that location at that time is a head-scratcher.  I'm sure the writers sent Jim on an extended trip (and off-screen) because of Marlowe's illness.  But Finland seems like a strange choice considering the (then) recently cancelled location shoot.
    • I totally understand your sloths concern about it and I agree with you. Let’s hope the show plays it’s cards right.    Further comments about the last few episodes: - I liked that one of the attendees was filming the scene. That’s realistic. I wonder if the writers will follow up with that.  - Martin and Smitty trying to drag Leslie out was very heteronormative, so perfectly in line with them two as characters lol.    As for the future: it’s obvious the Duprees will come to accept Eva one way or another, but the rivalry with Kay should be here for the long term   On the topic of acting: the only bad actors I’m seeing are Ted and Derek. Tomas hasn’t proven to be either good or bad, so far, but he’s certainly mediocre and uncharismatic. He sucks the energy out of the scenes and I don’t see any couple of women ever vying for him.
    • I’m trying to think which actors VW were working with at the time, and none of them had been there for a while. Even like Mac and Ada didn’t have that big of a part in Rachel’s storyline.  And Jamie was involved with all that movie stuff.
    • Brooke did ads before ATWT too. That probably helped get her the job. After ATWT she seemed to branch more into hosting, along with ads.  I think I saw Kelley in an ad or two, but you're right she wasn't on as much.
    •   Thanks for sharing these. I wonder if Charles might have been in the running for Adam. I know Preacher was a bit of a bad boy at times on EON, but Neal seemed to be a step down, and Robert Lupone had played a similar part on AMC. Given the huge cast turnover at this point I wonder who thought they had been there long enough to go.  Laura Malone/Chris Rich would get a remote within the next year.
    • Interesting.  It seems to allude to that statement that Warren Burton made around that time about some AW actors getting special treatment.  I wonder who was resentful about not getting to go.
    • Good morning, boys!  I figured that it was time that our Gio was introduced into the hotness thread

    • Under all of Madonna's social media today there is this wave of negative, toxic, absurd comments by Lady Gaga fans telling her how Gaga surpassed her in concert in Copacabana. I mean... Who the hell cares? Why are these fan communities so freaking toxic??? I'm sure Madonna doesn't care... But still. Have some respect for M. Leave her social media alone. Go cheer Gaga and be happy. Why come and spew hate on M??? Crazy world.
    • FYI, again, Ruth/Letitia is not in either of these 2 episodes. So that concludes the 4 episodes I had from Nov. 1983. I don't have the October episodes.
    • Eddie has begun uploading the 1990 episodes. I'm so happy about that. I was mindfully taking a break till there's plenty of episodes I can binge watch when I feel like it. Now that 1989 is complete... I can't wait to press play on February 1989 and resume where I left off.
