December 3, 200718 yr Member From the new tv guide: Next week, Frons tells us about his plans for spin offs of OLTL and Y&R IMO speaks volumes at AMC's future. RIP AMC....
December 3, 200718 yr Member How the hell would he have authority to have a Y&R spin-off? I have a feeling this is why Josh Griffith went FiCore now. Remember, Guza's work on Night Shift wasn't covered by the WGA, it was covered by another union. Anyway, I didn't care for Night Shift and I'm not interested in anymore primetime spin-offs. And yes, Frons clearly has something against AMC, I don't know why...
December 4, 200718 yr Member Hmm. Well, I wouldn't object to more soap spinoffs I guess. As long as it's done well, it's fine by me. I wish he would give AMC a shot, AMC doesn't deserve the treatment he gives it.
December 4, 200718 yr Member I wonder if these one-hour weekly "spinoffs" will actually be the future of some of these shows...
December 4, 200718 yr Member glad he gave AMC & Days the shaft, they both deserve it and are in no state for a spin off. Y&R isnt in a good place either, but i could see them working many spin off's.
December 4, 200718 yr Member I'm not a fan of the soap spin off, it usually ends up being a watered down version of the original show. I don't know why Y&R would ever consider getting into bed, creatively, with that son of a bitch Brian Frons. It is very possible that Griffith went Fi Core for a proposed spin off...I'm still thinking that he's going to end up working at Sony as an exec, but never say never.
December 7, 200718 yr Member Just because Night [!@#$%^&*] was crap doesn't mean the others will be. I just have to hope that the writers of future spin-offs have a clear plan and create a new show, not a sixth episode of an existing show.

I agree that AMC does not deserve a spin off, the show is horrible right now, and I don't think that many people would watch a spin off. Edited December 7, 200718 yr by xtr
December 7, 200718 yr Member Wow, Frons is dropping AMC like a hot potato. So, a OLTL spin-off, huh? Sounds interesting.
December 7, 200718 yr Member On the contrary, AMC does deserve a spin-off… then they can dump all the annoying characters on there so we won’t have to see them everyday on the actual show. Wow, Frons is dropping AMC like a hot potato. You’re happy Frons is sabotaging AMC? Nice Maybe if he didn't, OLTL's ratings would be better (as AMC is the lead-in).
December 7, 200718 yr Member Remember, Guza's work on Night Shift wasn't covered by the WGA, it was covered by another union. How is that possible? It's a one-hour drama for cable that isn't reality or animation. Sounds like it should be a WGA-covered show. Where did it say it wasn't?
December 7, 200718 yr Member I recall Night Shift being on the cheap, so that doesn't surprise me. Not sure how they got around the guild though. Do cable writers *have* to be signed to the Guild?
December 7, 200718 yr Member I do not think AMC desevres this crap. AMC made ABC looks so spectacular from 1990-2005. For you just not care Frons is stupid! OLTL should not be made into a spin off. Look at there ratings also. Edited December 7, 200718 yr by Kyle
December 7, 200718 yr Member QUOTE (Chris B @ Dec 7 2007, 03:58 PM) I recall Night Shift being on the cheap, so that doesn't surprise me. Not sure how they got around the guild though. Do cable writers *have* to be signed to the Guild? My understanding was that any scripted one hour television drama was guild territory. If I'm wrong, I'll readily admit it. But I don't see how Night Shift couldn't possibly be under the guild's jurisdiction. It's not like there's a choice in writing unions out there. That being said, JG being fi-core means he could definitely write a Soapnet spin-off during the strike.
