I did like today's show.

First off, I like Gwen Stefani but WHAT THE HELL WAS THE POINT OF HER?! She didn't even give advice. Here she is telling the camera what they should each do or how she hopes the singer does something. WHY THE HELL ISN'T SHE TELLING THE SINGERS THAT?! If she had, maybe people like Chris S and others who made changes to the melodies or whatever would listen and not do it. Ugh...like Gwen but she was a waste. Oh, and this week's theme was a mess. It was pretty much them giving the singers a list. There was no known boundery for the audience and I felt the show as a whole was lacking very much tonight. I hope for a better theme next week.

On to the show, it was incredibly rushed tonight. They went overtime as it was. They need to cut out the coke interview segments because they are a waste and they really need to get the judges and Seacrest to move a little faster through the show.

Lakisha: She was back in a groove this week. I am glad she went uptempo for once. Great performance, one she needed after being a little down the past few weeks and because she was first tonight.

Chris S: Horrible. He is grating on my nerves too. I appreciate this honesty in thinking he was bad but...ugh.

Gina: Her best performance yet. She finally realized she could keep her edge and doesn't have to sing hard rock to do it. Good performance. I like her alot.

Sanjaya: AMERICA!!! WAHE UP AND TOSS JACKO 2 OUT OF THIS COMPETITION!! Seriously, the voice and mannerisms of this kid scream Micheal Jackson. The hair changes are annoying and he is so bad to listen to and watch. End his suffering and ours...cut him loose!!!

Haley: Too safe. Not horrible but boring. She started the major trend for the night...which was playing it too safe.

Phil: Not bad but again it was too safe. He looked a little stiff early on but I still felt as if he was holding back.

Melinda: Great. Not her best but she is good singing anything. Liked her doing uptempo too. Solid job.

Blake: Too safe. He is the best male right now but it was lacking tonight. Glad he didn't beebox for once but it was too bland for me. Nothing special.

Jordin: Glad she went uptempo as well. Nice, fresh, young, hip...energetic. Hated the outfit but pretty good performance.

Chris R: Ok. Nothing great. Felt too safe though. I like him but he regressed a bit back into the Justin Timberlake mold, which I guess is good for him since last week he did something entirely different which I liked and he ended up in the bottom so whatever.

My bottom 3 is Chris S, Sanjaya, and Haley. I think it will be between Chris S and Sanjaya to go home and, hopefully, Sanjaya will go home but it could easily be Haley or Chris S. I kind of want Haley to stick around because I think she has great potential.

I thought AI was the best show to date. It was great. I'm finding it so difficult to decide who to root for besides Melinda who definitely has it made. I didn't really care for Gina or Phil, but tonight they both were shining. I love rock so guess they will win me. Actually, I'm about to get excited about Phil even though I don't yet think he has a chance of being in the finals. Are there three bottom choices? I forgot. I think Chris S., Chris R. and Haley will be the bottom three and Haley will go home.

Oh and I LOVE Sanjaya. He is so cute and a great entertainer.

Not a chance this week. I think his fanbase will keep him in for a couple more weeks. I just checked DialIdol which is notoriously wrong, and so far it's really a mess with Phil, Haley, Jordin and Chris S in the bottom positions. But, the AOL poll even has Sanjaya, Chris S, Gina, & Phil as the bottom four and last week they showed Stephanie as lowest and the week before the bottom three was accurate with Brandon in it. I was amazed that Phil got the sympathy votes last week and he is bottom here and Chris R. is getting the sympathy votes.

Well - I just don't even know what to say about Sanjaya's hair tonight. He is riding his hair's fame for all its worth. I did notice a little bite...a little more spark/comeback to his personality though.

Gina was great. I'm really liking her.

I thought it was funny that Gwen didn't always say something positive about each person. She spoke the truth - and I liked that. She was looking great tonight too!

I used to be a big Chris Sligh fan, but each week throughout this season I've liked him less and less. Tonight made it official - I don't care now whether he leaves or not.

Oh and Melinda is great. She's a great singer. But she's awkward to talk to and her humility is annoying. I wish she had more of a personality. She's always speechless and has that dumb expression on her face. Don't get me wrong - she's 'lovable' - but I want something more out of her personality. I'm tired of Ryan telling her to be happy and enjoy the fact she got good comments and to actually say something.

Melinda holds a BA degree in Commercial Music from Belmont University in Nashville. She has been a backup singer for a number of name groups including CeCe Winans. She has a good musical background and probably knows the ropes with dealing with people. I'm thinking that this exposure on American Idol means a lot to her and she just wants to show her appreciation and not get a personality issue going. I don't agree with Simon about what she wore tonight. I thought it was very becoming and loved the sapphire blue on her.

I loved Gwen Stefani. Loved her honesty.

Some surprises tonight. I loved that Gina got her groove back and gave her best performance this week. Also Phil gave his best performance as well.

My Top 5..........

(1) Melinda Doolittle, still on top, back at #1 (after Jordin's #1 placement last week IMHO). Very good on Donna Summer's "Heaven Knows".

(2) Gina Glocksen and Phil Stacey tied. Their best performances, rocketing them up to the Top 3! Gina was very good on The Pretenders "I'll Stand By You". Phil was very good on "Every Breath You Take" by The Police

(4) Lakisha Jones & Blake Lewis tied. ---- still very good! Lakisha but for some reason, a little disappointing IMHO this week. Glad though that Lakisha did a uptempo song.

Middle

(6) Chris Richardson, almost tied at #4. Did very well.

(7) Jordin Sparks------very disappointing, poor song choice.

(8) Sanjaya Malakar ----- still better than he was, but not as good as last week. That mo-hawk look was very laughable.

My Bottom 2 and I don't care which goes home (I wish they get rid of both 'em and bring back Stephanie, lol)

Chris Sligh (who was a mess like Simon said) and Hayley was pure horrible on "True Colors".

THANK YOU, alwaysAMC, for being brave enough to say what I've been DYING to say for weeks now, but couldn't find the courage.

little miss perfect Melinda's humility IS annoying, as is her "humble" face she WORKS -- and yeah, she's WORKIN' THAT THING OVERTIME!

I'm SO glad Ryan called her out on that [!@#$%^&*] Tuesday. It was subtle, but when he pointed out how she sings, gets showered with compliments, is flattered and then the next competition comes, rinse and repeat, he was TOTALLY digging her.

Especially with that "hug yourself" comment. OUCH!

I know and I loved it! I was watching and thinking, did she just bash Hayley? I was surprised bc I hought the artist were paid to come on adn say nice things about the contestants to boost up their performances. My favorites from the night were Lakisha and Chris R, followed by Blake and Melinda.

I was confused. What was the theme for last night? I thought it was going to be Gwen Stefani songs but most of them didnt sing anything she did.

Was I the only oen that hated Jordin's performance? I think she ruined Hey Baby but the judges loved her

    • John Black actually was the ultimate good guy soap hero. So I don’t mind the town gushing over him. It’s deserved.
    • Be glad it wasn't a Perry production.

    • The whole town gushing over John Black as if he was a saint is eye rolling.  I guess death really colors people's memories over his many flaws, but I guess that is normal and human nature. I'm still confused as to why Leo hasn't been written out.  The actor stank up two soaps with his sub par acting, what does he have on TPTB's to remain on these soaps.   What's the point of Cat?  I hope the new head-writers figure out her purpose and develop her character. And I much prefer scenes not focusing on John's death because life does go on for the world when someone passes.
    • Wasn't there a break in Zaslow's first run? I thought Roger was off-screen for a while, and when Zas came back, Roger was hiding at the boarding house and Nola figured out there was something hinkey about him. I'm pretty sure Simon chose to leave the first time and was replaced by RVV. I don't want to assume Jordan's issues played a role in his first departure, but Maeve said in an interview that at some point, it became very hard for her to work with him and she asked to work with him less. That seems to fit 1986, where suddenly Vanessa is essentially Ross' law clerk and not at every Lewis family moment.
    • He needs to divorce her arse with her constant cheating.   She's no better than Doug... she's F*cking pathetic.
    • I didn't know of any interruptions for Maeve Kinkead after her 1997 return. Her runs would then be 1981-1987, 1989-1996, 1997-2000, short arcs until the end. I knew Maureen Garrett second run was interrupted from a 2009 interview but I couldn't recall the exact year. Her runs would then be 1976-1980, 1988-2000, short arcs until the end.
    • As I said in May, I have no problem with Martin and Bradley being married. You can still do all the fun introloper storylines with them as you do everyone else. Both men of a certain age, and it is very believable for them to have either a first love or have been previously married. And, you can do it without either of them cheating!

I said something similar during the premiere week. Bill was the perfect age to play Martin as Vernon and Anita's child. I would've much preferred this version, but oh well.
    • I don't know how you want to count Maeve. She "retired" in '00, but would come back for appearances. I don't know however if she made an appearance in '01 or '03. In '02 I believe she came back for Josh and Reva's wedding. I assume she came back when Gina Tognoni took over the role of Dinah. And I know she was back for Ross' memorial service. Maureen Garrett was around until at least '00. I don't think Holly was in town when Ben returned though. I just got pissed off about Jerry all over again.
    • So, pretty sure Zaslow, Garrett, Kinkead, and Newman all chose to leave the first time. (If that's wrong, please correct me). Bernau - not sure why he left the first time. Was it voluntary? Or did they decide to write him out? They were writing so many out during that time period. It always seemed odd to me that they introduced Alex, FINALLY giving him someone he could talk to, and then he was written out. Or maybe that's why they made Alex his sister, so she could take his place as the head of the Spaulding family? Would love more intel on that if anyone knows. Simon - was he replaced by RVV? Or did he voluntarily leave the first time? It seems to me like one of those times TPTB decided to sex up or glamorize a character (and it clearly flopped). If he was fired, interesting he came back. Again, would love if someone could spill the tea. Clarke - I've always assumed he left because of his personal issues, but not sure if that was the case the first time.
