Best Story----> Zach's Death

Best Return ---> Steve and Kayla, though it was rough in the beginning, they are still so fricken awesome to watch

Best Character --> Sami Brady, the only one who has been consistently awesome despite changes

Best use of Vet --> Peter Reckell and Krisitian Alfonso, Bo and Hope have weathered 1000 storms but these two always make it seem watchable

Best new Character --> Without a doubt EJ Wells

Best Shock/twist --> None yet, EJ being a DiMera was predictable from the get go

Best couple --> Sami and Lucas, practically the only couple who have been consistent with each other

Best love story --> John and Marlena, they overcame their obstacle (as stupid as it was) and are now doing things together, Bo and Hope are headed there but not completely yet

Best Return: There was no story for them when they came back and things have been patchy (no pun intended since, but among the characters who were actually good and gone before this year, Steve and Kayla still bring it the most.

Best Character: Pass.

Best use of Vet: Victor Kiriakis

Best new Character: Of all the characters with comparable clout and weight in storylines (thereby eliminating Benjy &etc), EJ Wells. He was a smart addition to the show this year overall.

Best Shock/twist: I don't think I was ever truly and enjoyably shocked this year.

Best couple: I'm trying to think of one couple that really did it for me during JER's half of the year. Yep ... yep ... yeah, no. So I'll give it to John and Marlena who are really tearing it up for their fans recently. They've been given a story that according to their fans lets them show what their relationship is all about, why it works, why it entertains.

Best love story: Lean lean year for love stories. Pass.

Best Spoiler (you loved it the minute you read it): The Johnson brothers are back

Best Laugh-out-loud moment: Crazed Phillip steals Claire. I know it's not funny ... but admit it, it was.

Best departure: Jack and Jennifer, of all the departures of comparable ambition, because they realized what it was that needed to be fixed, even if they did it over a rather absurd timetable. Not that I personally wanted them gone

Best trend: Increased character interactions (caging up characters in their triangles/quads was the worst!)

Worst story: The idiot junior quad's scrambled eggs (IVF) melodrama. Lack of rootability and absolutely absurd backdrop of the plot equals zero interest and zero payoff. The only thing that made you happy was when it was over.

Worst return: I know, they came back in 2005. I don't care. Carrie & Austin. Absolutely useless and regressive character development and the hugest waste of my time in the long run.

Worst character: Willow, as if this even needs to be asked.

Worst/dumbest shock or twist: The Black Glove's sperm/egg switches, the very definition of "dumb".

Worst couple: Hope and Patrick -- I cannot stand JER's trend of having women deal with every trauma by running into another man's bed. Patrick is also the epitome of everything that is wrong with JER's characterization. To even think this would work is idiocy. And to go ahead with it knowing that it wouldn't work, in the context of Zack's death, is insulting. We should've gotten a story about a mother grieving her son. Instead, bedhopping crud.

Worst love story: Of all the stories that was concievably meant to be love, Shawn and Belle were ridiculous. I know they're shaping up now but honestly their stuff under JER deserves to be singled out for this. Jennifer and Frankie made me cringe personally, but they were never as ridiculous and absurd as Shawn and Belle as a story. Bo and Hope's story this year was not really a love story IMO, maybe arguably recently but not overall. Sami and Lucas' story has only recently begun to become one again, and it's not so bad. Steve and Kayla haven't been that hot yet till just recently but they haven't been on enough to really compete for lameness. None of the other couples that have blipped across the screen can be said to have been written to be in love.

Worst spoiler (made you never want to watch DAYS again): Frankie and Jennifer make love, for personal reasons.

Most cringe worthy moment: Carrie sleeps with Lucas and Austin in the skankiest double hitter ever. EWWWW.

Worst departure: Carrie and Austin -- sure I was glad they were gone, but from an execution standpoint it sucked, it was the most rushed hack job there was. Quickie divorce, Austin sits around like a block of wood, underwhelming sister cat fight, Switzerland out of the blue, Sami crashes their wedding and poof they're gone. Frankie's departure had even less fanfare, but he had less loose ends to tie up as well and no story of his own anyway.

Worst trend: Bedhopping

The Black Glove award (Worst dressed man/single body part): Honestly I didn't pay attention, nobody looked awful to me. I'm not really big on every single person on a soap looking like a fashion model anyway though.

The Alex North award (aka overall most useless): Roman Brady, 'nuff said. Alex North was useless and we had been subject to him long enough but at least he's gone now. With Roman ... not so lucky.

Most improved character: Belle Black, and again because she was sooo bad that it was easy to do. I see where the vote for Chelsea comes from but she also has been waffling back and forth and making a few jumps. For one day Bonnie Lockhart was a real human being, and then she regresed (I'll grant that Judi always entertains). So I went with Belle. Patrick Lockhart improved just by the sheer fact of them deciding once and for all that he was a bad guy, but I ain't givin' him no stinkin' award.

Most missed character (did not appear in 2006 but wish they had): I'm not really sure I needed anyone to return but I really did think that EJ by all counts of sanity ought to have been Tony and Anna's son, so I would've taken back either of them for the storyline.

Most wasted character (seems like they didn't appear in 2006 but did): Julie Williams, on for all of four episodes. Blink -- did you miss it? She really needed to be on more this year, given all the goings on in her family.

Most overexposed character (seems like they were in every episode of 2006): Mimi Lockhart. O. M. G. She was EVERYWHERE.

Best Shock/Twist: Behind the scenes, JER fired; Hogan hired. On the air, Victor hides a disfigured Phillip in the mansion.

Best Couple: Carrie and Austin (bad story, but tons of chemistry)

Best Love Story: Steve saves Kayla from death with a kiss... then finally remembers his life with her, after faking it to bring her back to health.

The woman looks fabulous when they dress her up in form-fitting clothes, give her a decent hairdo (I'm sick of her hair being down and unstyled, all the f-ing time!) and put a little makeup on her face. Hope used to be hawt! They've dressed her in such terrible clothes for the past five years, though. Sami comes in a close second... I've especially HATED her white hair this year. It's not even blonde, it's... white/silver! Or at least it was, back in the summer. So bright it hurt my eyes, and they never put her in stunning clothes.

The Black Glove Award (Worst dressed man/single body part): John Black. What a boring wardrobe. Does he ever wear something different... perhaps without an ugly black leather jacket with an elastic waist that makes him look pudgy?

The Alex North Award (aka overall most useless): Unfortunately, Billie Reed.

Most Improved Character: It's a tie between Marlena and Chelsea. Marlena went from idiotic victim to smart heroine, and Chelsea went from screaming banshee to diva b!tch (a miniature Nicole, if you will).

Most Missed Character (did not appear in 2006 but wish they had): Uh... anybody want to take any guesses on who my choice is?! Aside from the obvious (Kristen!), I've also been missing the hell out of fabulous characters like Laura Horton, Vivian Alamain, Jan Spears (Heather Lindell, only!) and Ali McIntyre.

Most Wasted Character (seems like they didn't appear in 2006 but did): Bonnie Lockhart. Honestly, many people think she's useless, but I don't... at all. They just don't utilize her the right way enough. Coming in a close second is Abby Deveraux... the girl is a Salem Sweetheart in the making! USE HER! Why do only the bad girls get to see the light of day?
