Well, he lied to her & he told her that he would walk the straight & narrow path & then did the opposite. I was glad today that they at least gave Lindsay some good dramatic dialogue, etc.

Vee, you follow me here to allege things that did happen & things you say you've heard of that did not happen & accuse me of lying when I am not doing so, well, you just prove my point. In the far distant past I was never banned from boards as some people haver alleged. They are the liars. Or they badly misremember. I am not now spamming anyone or anything. I am not now posting off topic except in conversations like this idiocy. I am simply posting correctly & appropriately & I'd like to get back to that.

Oh, for crying out loud. I have not been spamming anything anywhere. And, personally I prefer to talk about the show instead of talking about other posters. it's just that I am so special people are just obsessed with me! They simply must share their opinions of me with other people! It's such a joy to have my own personal trolls & bullies. Many people have tried to figure out P&G! Even as recently as last year they had multiple chances to sell or lease their show catalogs to streaming companies & declined. They're sitting on warehoused tapes of SFT, ATWT, GL, AW, etc. In their past at one point they had a show on SoapNET & they even sold off a show to CBS but it was long ago & it didn't end well. CBS moved the show to LA & made a bunch of changes & it was cancelled within a year. 2 books have been written about P&G basically detailing how weird they are as a corporation.

At one point NBC adored & loved AW & then, boy, did that turn around 180! And, the affiliates also loved AW but then they blamed the show for the 90 minute fiasco so the affiliates hated AW just as NBC was getting a hate on. There are plenty of stories about shows where the sponsor/owner & network feuded but I think AW's was the worst example. Just because I feel like putting up something positive, here's my favorite annual fan club luncheon from 1992, Baby Follies, and where Connie sang

Well, that is just incredibly crass! I've never put much stock in any of the people who made fun of the actors on AMC, OLTL and Y&R, much less the fans. What's wrong with people?! Well, of course, there was the awful 6 months of Michael Malone & the nightmare that was Jordan Stark and Lumina. But except for a year we always had the wonder that was Carl & Rachel. But, don'[t get me started on Jensen Buchanan taking advantage. You've been warned. She cost the show as much unnecessary money as Jill did.

To be fair Doug Marland's writing was also part of the Renaissance that GH experienced. Personally I found plenty of quality in AW even when they were in decline in ratings & rankings. The 90 minute show was a blow & it had to be gotten over. Pete left & they had to find their way to some other writing. Doug died & they were blown away for awhile. (As ATWT was blown away when Marland died.) Meanwhile there was this conflict between network & sponsor. I think of that old adage that a house divided cannot stand. If NBC wanted to cancel the show, let's say, as of 1988 & they pulled the plug in 1999, then that means P&G kept the show alive for 11 years. I believe at the end they were exhausted of fighting. (I think later they were exhausted with fighting with CBS when they cancelled ATWT & GL.) I would imagine that Angela Shapiro had ideas about how to package & promote AW. I never thought NBC did a good job of promoting AW. Maybe someone else could have. No, I never thought of Alice as a Frame either. She was a Matthews!

And it was just at TCA that Genie Francis said so clearly how tired of it she is! And, then on top of everything else the cover is a graphic design nightmare. Remember that at first his name was Brent Douglas? Brent & Julie just doesn't have the zing to it!

Today is Bill Hayes' 53rd Anniversary with the show. Started back in 1970. Like many people he wasn't really sure what a soap was & was meeting people & all eyes & ears watching & listening & thinking about memorizing lines & wondering how hard that would be! What a wonderful career he has had! And how lucky we've been to get to watch.

Another World Memories on #SoapTwitter has reminded me that today in 1989 the show did "A Valentine to Singles" which began with single women revealing what they look for in a man. Not this one in particular so much, but in general the special shows was something AW did that I really liked.

They made a point of telling us today that he was staying over with the sitter because her 5 yr old loves him. Just a little weird. Also she called him her Henny-Penny. Hmm. I'm thoroughly disgusted with drunk Allie making out with Alex. But knew something of the sort had to be coming. One point for Johnny for putting the brakes on Chanel. A takeover of THE SPECTATOR!

Neil, your thoughts about hiring some really stellar HW to save AW would certainly seem to make good sense. However, everything I know about P&G and NBC and the decline & eventual cancellation of AW definitely does not make good sense. The fought each other. NBC wanted to get rid of Victoria. NBC was obsessed with ABC owning their soaps. NBC was jealous of ABC. NBC wanted to own their soaps. At least part of NBC people wanted to get rid of AW & have that timeslot for a new soap, that they would own. There was some infighting among NBC people because they weren't all of one mindset. P&G was understandably on the defensive & wanted to save AW, and wanted to continue to have Victoria as the de facto star of the show. Oh, yeah, NBC wanted AW to become more like DOOL, DOOL jr or DOOL lite so they could advertise & promote something like a brand of soaps. P&G did not think AW could be like DOOL. By no stretch of the imagination do I think they sat calmly & reflected & tried to decide what would save the situation. NBC and P&G reached the point in their fighting that they agreed to take turns making decisions. So, for example, EP, one decided on Jill, the other decided on Charlotte Savitz. Sounds crazy, doesn't it? It was 1994 when other companies approached P&G about either going into partnership or selling AW to them. Fox TV was one as they wanted their own daytime lineup with soaps. Columbia-TriStar was one. What became Viacom was one. Wal-Mart was in some partnerships with P&G & they MAY have been one, not so sure of that. ABC did not approach P&G to buy AW outright until the cancellation had been announced. P&G said no to everyone. As a fan activist at that time, we were bitterly disappointed that none of these possible corporate moves were a greenlight because they would've meant the show would stay on the air. And, not being on the air was looking very likely. Victoria had by this time taken a leadership role with the actors & she also reached out & made contact with fans. The only thing that is curious to me is that the soaps were all on schedules, had deadlines, & AW's was May. But, Susan D. Lee, of NBC Daytime, moved in April even summoning MADD back from a vacation. Of course, it doesn't matter. Just a curiosity.

What I was told was that when Doug died they were working from a mini-bible that covered 18 months & that was how devastating it was to the writers. Just an unusual time & a different time frame because of all the intricate plans they had about the big dates coming up & specific things with the publishing empire. FYI.
