SOD is ending it's weekly print edition
And with that you know something about Tom Eplin that you didn't know before. BTW, I heard from Steph, just a msg, not a conversation but she was as positive sounding as I had hoped!

When did he stop doing both DAYS & Y&R, Spring '75? I can't see how he made it through that tough 2-year period & then struggled with Y&R initially, so, '77 sure would have looked impossible to jump right back into 2 shows.

Guiding Light Discussion Thread
Watch this, Certain Rights, part 1 & then part 2 & you'll be set, unless you want to read about it. The actors talked about it, wonderfully! Michael talked about the shoot that day & that they used hand-held cameras to better get a feel for how much he menaced her. Maureen talked about how afraid Holly was & also about how she heard from so many women who had experienced it, etc. I found this: On one page there is a clip of the Roger/Holly/Marital Rape scene & after the clip, each actor speaks. Zaslow: When people ask me what scene, what story I was the most proud of, it's this, it's the rape. For that we used hand-held cameras for the first time, to give people the sense, the feeling of Holly being menaced by Roger. And, well, it's like this, we did it in one day. Garrett: No soap had previously done this, dealt with marital rape and it was just beginning to come out in the real public view, as well. To this day I get letters from women who are victims of danger in their own homes, telling me what the show meant to them, and means to them, still. Holly took Roger to court and they twisted it all around and tried to make it seem that she had done something to cause it, something wrong. Well, that part of the story went on for days and I would walk home, and Holly was afraid and I was afraid. And, I would say over and over and over again, "It's not my life. It's Holly's life. It's not my life. It's Holly's life. It's not my life. It's Holly's life."

2023: The Directors and Writers Thread
DAYS Mon., 11-13-23. Who is in the house? Rafe, Jada, Nicole, EJ, Leo, Dimitri, Tate, Eric, Melinda, Sloan. We had an episode that ran 32 min. & was written by Christopher Dunn & directed by Noel Maxam. Is this new for Chris Dunn to be a script writer? It is, isn't it? And, no Joanna Cohen again today. With her, the 3 vets & the 4 African-American writers all gone, they've lost 8 writers & only gained 2 nepotism hires. (Sometime I defend daytime nepotism for good reason. Here I do not.)

Days of Our Lives: November 2023 Discussion Thread
I sure hope so!!! I mean, was the character rehab blatant or what's more obvious than blatant?!!! Wow. If they think they can change fans minds with suddenly crafting a kind, responsible adult in one days' show they do not know soap fans at all! Ari & Serfaty were both excellent today. Good for them.

Daytime Emmy's to now air on December 15th
Emmy reels Michael Fairman did his annual interview & got some of the reels, as described by the actors. People have posted reels info on Gold Derby Forums. I picked them up from there & they are posted on my forum, https://www.facebook.com/groups/soapthegoodthebadtheugly Thread link https://www.facebook.com/groups/soapthegoodthebadtheugly/permalink/3612535545731652 Genie Francis did not submit. Laura Wright did not submit. Maura West did not submit. Deidre Hall does not submit. This is DAYS reel for Writing. They used the same as they did to win the WGA. DOOL HW Ron Carlivati said in a statement: "My team and I are thrilled to be nominated for the 2023 Writers Guild for Daytime. We submitted three scripts from the storyline about Craig's late-in-life coming out, the impact it had on his wife, Nancy, and of course, his ill-fated romance with the ever-scheming Leo. We felt that these episodes were a good representation of what Days of Our Lives does best: high-stakes family drama with a comedic twist." Still no info on Writing for the others or for Directing or Show for any. However, everyone thinks Y&R will submit "Chelsea's suicide" in all those categories.

General Hospital: November 2023 Discussion Thread
So, I happened to find out, pretty much by accident, that there are unknown writers on the GH team who do not watch the show. I don't know about you, but I absolutely believe that writers have to watch the show that the fans are watching, or else they don't know what in hell is going on! Therefore, I urge people to post to the writers to please watch their damn show!!

RIP: Tyler Christopher has passed
Well, I am leery of anyone who makes claims like this after the person has died & there's no way it can be verified. Plus, the misuse of the word "legacy". Tyler's legacy is his body of work, his children & his very great reputation as a person, NOT someone who is going to use his IG acct, etc. There shouldn't be active posting of an account of a deceased person. It's just wrong. Sure, maybe a few things to announce information to followers, but not an ongoing amount of traffic. I'm sad, angry, disgusted, ...

DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos
The big thing about DAYS & writing is the huge changes they've undergone! They lost all 3 vets that they had - Lorraine Broderick, Carolyn Culliton & Richard Culliton, all retired. They had 4 African Americans & now they are all gone. Plus, just recently Joanna Cohen disappeared from the list. That means they've lost a total of 8 writers! They've only gained 2, both nepotism hires, Henry Newman & Sonja Alarr. Now I am one who will rise in defense of nepotism at times. I mean it is alive & well in daytime & has been literally since the beginning & there is much to the good. In this case, however, I'm not seeing it.

LIFETIME: "Ladies of the 80's: A Diva's Christmas"
- Daytime Emmy's to now air on December 15th
There's a trick people need to know about. To watch it live Friday night on Paramount+ you have to have the plan that includes Showtime. Regular plan will be shown it on Saturday.- 1980s Trends
Does anyone else find it rather fascinating that the Ewings on Dallas & The Carringtons on Dynasty came out of Pete Lemay's AW characters? I keep wondering if there's a story there. As to the big picture because of politics, because of life, because of Nancy & Ron never saying the word AIDS, because of all the friends I buried, ... I really enjoyed escapism in my soaps more than ever before. In fact before I wasn't really into soaps as escape. So I just happened to be in tune with the clothes, the glamour, the adventure, the supercouples, ... but then again, hmm, maybe real life had an effect on reel life. Maybe all that & its trappings came about because in fact on some level one's life is politics.- General Hospital: November 2023 Discussion Thread

This is a death I missed earlier this year. I hope I'm not duplicating here. RIP Rita Lakin died March 23, 2023 Prolific writer of books, soaps, primetime episodics & Movie of the weeks The Doctors 1967-69 Peyton Place Flamingo Road, creator, writer & show-runner Executive Suite EP 1976 Emerald Point NAS 1984 Dynasty 10 epis 1987- 2023: The Directors and Writers Thread
Carolyn posts on UglyX even more now but not about writing, about movies, music, politics, etc. Unless she was posting strike supportive. The last time she posted about writing was at the last AW Endiversary & I asked her how she felt about being memorialized forever on videotape as Carolyn the gorilla. She said she effin hated it! But that it was something Gary (Tomlin) & Sam (Radcliffe) came up with & Gary was godparent to one of her children & Sam she adored, so she has to be okay with it. I just bet she would be a delight in a Q&A format.- General Hospital: November 2023 Discussion Thread
I said that if PonyBoy (Cody Bell) said "MamaQ" one more time that my head was going to explode & several people said there's would too so someone obliged us by providing this illustration: exploding head This is the confrontation between Anna & Valentin that will definitely be on Finola's winning reel: https://twitter.com/i/status/1723143511393046905- DAYS: Behind the Scenes, Articles/Photos

I've found a way to message Maurice privately & have just done so. No idea, of course, how often he checks this. I just hope he knows what's true & what's not. Also, of course, hope he will reply, but that's not a sure thing. Does anyone know if I'm right that Maurice's wife Paula is both Mo's mgr & Tyler's mgr.? She's not. - Daytime Emmy's to now air on December 15th
