Dallas Discussion Thread
Jared Martin, the 7-egg omelette cowboy named Dusty Farlow, has passed away. For some reason, I would have never thought he'd be 75. My God, he was nearly 40 when he started on DALLAS! I always thought he was in his 20s, maybe early 30s on the show.

Twin Peaks
Episode 4: (so, spoilers) Of course Michael Cena is the result of Andy & Lucy. Makes perfect sense! Such a nice little shock to see Bobby as a police officer. I am stunned no one's mentioned that beautiful moment when he walks into the conference room and sees Laura's picture. And the music swelled. Such an iconic moment and wonderfully played by DA. The doppelganger being mistaken for Cooper and then doing an impersonation of Cooper is so soapy. I absolutely love it. And Cooper assuming Dougie's identity is both teeth-itchingly frustrating and so very interesting. It's becoming even more clear how "Cooper's odyssey" of a return to Twin Peaks will take shape. Fine, as long as they pay it off. I immediately thought Albert was referring to Audrey. I don't know if I'd like the other character mentioned being made into a drunk -- -- but Lynch will Lynch and I'm here to see where he takes it.

Justice League Movie
That is truly horrific. I find his initial desire to throw himself into work touching, if misguided. I'm glad they're taking the time off that they need. What a horrible tragedy.

Twin Peaks
Heh-LLOOOOOOOOO. A third look-alike? That journey out of the Black Lodge was never going to be easy. Cooper in that casino was amusing and at the same time harrowing. I laughed a lot at the Lucy/Andy/Hawk scene. And what fun to see Gordon and Albert. For a second I thought Cooper would be trapped in the Black Lodge for episodes on end but I'm glad he's out and returning, although it (probably) isn't over yet. I wonder if the show will return to some of the more traditional Twin Peaks once Cooper makes his way back to town. Now let's see how long I can hold off before episode 4.

Twin Peaks
Wow. I've only done the first two episodes so far. I'll try to hold off on the other two. At the same time, it's familiar, and yet so very different. Already two episodes in, some pieces are starting to fit together. I am really loving the evil doppelganger storyline. That song at the end of episode 2 was so beautiful and fit in so well. I nearly cried when Shelly said, "James has always been cool." What an unexpected scene to end on.

"The Conners" Discussion Thread
Dammit. I need to finally watch the show. That would probably be the smart way to go. Either before the first episode or the week before, do a retrospective that (re)introduces the original show and then (hopefully) take off with the revival.

Dynasty: Discussion Thread
This is exactly what I expected. Sadly. If you considered the people behind it, and the network it was developed for, how could it ever be anything else? But the one thing that surprised me is this interpretation of Cristal, which is all sorts of wrong. No, Cristal should NEVER be a golddigger, even just a possible one. The whole POINT is that she was a kind, smart, tough, honest woman who genuinely loved Blake and couldn't care less about money. Here, she's a vapid 20-something, who CATFIGHTS WITH HER FUTURE STEPDAUGHTER ON THE VERY FIRST EPISODE. Ugh. I HATE that her introduction to Steven and Fallon is while being pinned down by Blake, fυcked on top of a desk, just so there can be a lame double entendre joke. But nobody knows how to write a character like Krystle anymore. DYNASTY itself didn't, after the first two seasons. I will say this, however: The actress seemed decent enough, as decent as you can come off on a trailer. As expected, the guy playing Steven comes off much better on screen than some of his pics, and the stuff with Sammy Jo, cliche and obvious, was kinda hot. It'll be trash. I'll be watching.

They're moving it to Thursdays at 9. What do you think? A good risk or a disaster waiting to happen? I would HATE for them to get f*cked because they moved a hit show to a different day/timeslot.

As The World Turns Discussion Thread
Yeah, I think John was the one who reacted most appropriately. I wonder if Marland was trying to temper the reactions just a little bit because he was planning to have James stick around and was afraid going too hard on James and reminding viewers of his acts too explicitly would make him too much of a villain to keep around. He definitely didn't hide anything but hey, if the residents of Oakdale are taking a wait-and-see attitude, supposedly so would the viewers. I don't necessarily mind it but James should be getting punched/slapped/yelled at at every turn. IA. He's clearly a master at this. I have complained about his pacing before -- the show is almost breakneck speed. Just thinking about it, in less than a year, he hasn't had one or even two major umbrella stories... but THREE (Douglas, Tad Channing, now James). Each ONE of those stories would have been a 2 YEAR story on Y&R lol. And, yet, Marland's way into the third one with weeks to spare. It's a little insane. He'd be exactly like today's soaps in terms of pacing and galloping through story -- if he wasn't such a brilliant writer. But he goes through all the beats; he has a great instinct on how to build on the stories. And despite the pace, he knows how to make you wait for something (I am shocked the Lily secret hasn't come out yet!). You are right -- the viewer (including me) trusts him. NO viewer would trust any of the current headwriters.
