  1. I recalled Jill moving into the mansion following Phillip's death. So I checked an old synopsis Many months of bitterness followed Phillip Chancellor's death. Jill possessed Phillip's money and property, including the house. Jill insisted that her entire family move into the house, but they weren't used to having servants and felt strange at first. With Jill's prodding, they began to enjoy being wealthy. Meanwhile, Katherine was driven to prove that Phillip and Jill weren't really married and to get back her house. During a messy courtroom battle, Katherine told how she had been coerced into signing divorce papers while she was drunk and didn't know what she was doing. She won the case and got her estate back and made Phillip's son illegitimate. It bothered Katherine that Jill was carrying Phillip's baby and offered Jill a million dollars if Jill would give legal custody of the child to her. Jill agreed.
  2. Just a week between tape and airing. Poor Greg-any old office will do. Thinking back I never got any sense of Wings Hauser's Greg as an effective lawyer. Really looking forward to these.
  3. Love in The Afternoon by Ed Zimmerman. He wrote this when he was playing Joe Werner on Guiding Light in the early 70's. Tragically he died in 1972 aged 39. It's a fun read - obviously a lightly fictionalized account of TGL at that time. I'll post more about it in the GL thread.
  4. Variety reports in July 1958 that CBS is piloting 'The Sheriff's Wife' packaged by Don Arpell and dealing with 'the women behind the wooly men who opened up the wild west'. This was a live daily soap. Lori March was the female lead with George Wallace as the Sheriff.
  5. RE SFT Variety reports Anthony Ray joining in June 58 Re Today Is Ours Barry Thompson played Lester Williams
  6. ATWT, GL and EON all aired in a P&G block 1.30 - 3.00 pm LOL, Y&R and SFT aired 11.30 am - 1.00pm. With that half hour of local time in between I guess CBS saw them as 2 different time periods.
  7. Before any of that, Love in the Afternoon was the title of a 1957 Billy Wilder movie with Audrey Hepburn.
  8. Thanks for posting those. Did Daytime TV post ratings throughout its run? Someone out there probably has access to all those rating details...

  12. I can see why Jennifer Wood was axed as Doreen. She's too one note as the bitchy rich lady. Every line is delivered with a sneer. Mind you, we can also blame the director(s) who should have told her to tone it down. Anyway, Pamela Lincoln will soon come on as Doreen. The story goes that Pam was axed from Love of Life and her hubby Daryl Hickman,CBS exec got on the phone to his friend Jeff Young and lobbied for a role for Pam. Presto, Jenn was out and Pam was in. Now seeing Wood in action, I can see that perhaps it was just good timing as once they knew Pam was available, it was a no brainer to drop Ms Wood. Some Meg Mundy trivia..way back in 1950 she starred in an experimental CBS color broadcast of the suspense classic 'Sorry Wrong Number'. This was to promote CBS's own color system, which ultimately failed.

  17. May I include 'True Story' in this thread? Although not strictly a soap, it did air in daytime (Saturdays at noon on NBC) and was live from New York. More importantly the cast drew from the NY talent pool at the time and many performers who worked in soaps also appeared on the show. It began Sat March 16 1957 and continued for several years. Kathi Norris was hostess/narrator introducing each character, giving background information and a wrap up at the end of each broadcast First episode The Alibi by Mike Morris Cast Phillip Abbott, June Dayton, Bert Freed, Jim Bowles, Bart Aplon.
  18. John Pickard/Frank Provo, writers of Concerning Miss Marlowe, From These Roots, The Doctors and Love of Life as well as radio soaps have their papers housed at Thousand Oaks Library. Included are proposals for a TV version of their radio soap "Wendy Warren" in the 60's and scripts and synopsis for 'Mary Worth' 1971. Also included are TV proposals, some of which may have had soap opera overtones Kenyon's Wife Leading Lady Royal Bay Sentinel Square Way of Love Girl Alone 52 Fifth Avenue

  20. ABC owned GH so there was no way they would sell to another network.
  21. Don Wallace mentioned in an interview that around the time of Return To Peyton Place 20th Century Fox/NBC were investigating a Novels for Television concept 5 episode per novel. Fox wanted to use titles they had in their inventory. Wallace wrote a treatment for 'Tender is the Night' but it soon became apparent that it was not feasible budget wise and the idea died.
