  1. Y&R March 1993 big events: Nikki's fall down the ranch stairs that leads to the premature birth and later death of her and Jack's son. Neil and Dru get married. Jill learns she is pregnant. We saw Neil and Dru wedding reception and honeymoon during the classics. March 26, 1993 was Y&R 20th anniversary. March 6, 1993 Douglas Marland passes away. B&B March 1993 big event: Lauren and Sheila face off in Los Angeles.
  2. Another week that All My Children came w/in 0.3 of Y&R. Y&R in the 9s! Big event was Sheila return.
  3. Larsa Pippen and Marcus Jordan Split After More Than a Year of Dating (people.com) Marcus isn't risking being cut out of the will.
  4. Matt 1985-1987 story arc felt like he was in line as a Jack replacement in the quad in case Terry Lester left for primetime.
  5. Guiding Light this week Maureen death. Sadly GL will never be the same. I had no idea that All My Children got w/in 0.3 of Y&R. So All My Children January 25-29, 1993 and Reilly Days June 23-27, 1997 both got w/in 0.3 of Y&R.
  6. It bears repeating. NBC was a mess across the board in the early 1980s and NBC never really recovered in daytime despite supercouple Days, Santa Barbara Emmy/SOD awards run, and Reilly Days.
  7. B&B December 30 Brooke gives birth to Bridget. 1993 was a pivotal year w/ big events whose impact is still felt today. Santa Barbara ends. Guiding Light kills off Maureen Bauer. Douglas Marland passes away. Reilly's Days takes off. Luke/Laura return to General Hospital. Bill Bell passes the reigns at B&B to Bradley.
  8. @Franko Thank you for the info re Santa Barbara. B&B November 13 Colleen Dion departure. Y&R 5000th episode was December 1, 1992. General Hospital appears to be making a comeback. Luke/Laura return was less than a year away. James Reilly arrives at Days sometime in December 1992 and he cannot get there fast enough. Little did we know that Reilly Days 1993-1997 would shake up daytime at a level not seen since ABC huge rise and dominance some 15 years earlier.
  9. CBS entire line up in the Top 5. Sadly I think this is it for Guiding Light as far as Top 5 finishes go. Also noticed Santa Barbara clearanced dropped during the Fall. I don't recall any new talk shows that launched Fall 1992. When did NBC announce Santa Barbara end?
  10. @Soapsuds That cover shoot was at the height of Cricket eating the show.
  11. B&B September 28-October 2 Sheila's fashion show nightmare. Y&R September 29 Olivia gives birth to Nate. Three of four weeks CBS entire line up in the Top 5.
  12. Guiding Light August 18 Beverlee McKinsey departure. Y&R August 28 Nikki learns she is pregnant. B&B September 10 Daniel McVicar last episode until his 1996 return. Three of four weeks CBS entire line up in the Top 5! Y&R is still so far ahead of the pack.
  13. Eric/Stephanie had sort of a love scene in 1997. There were some love scenes in the 1990s that bordered on the type of movies that would be on cable in the wee hours. B&B best romantic story for me was 1987-1990 Ridge and Caroline. I believe Ridge genuinely loved Caroline. They were B&B's original supercouple even though Bill Bell was not a fan of the supercouple craze.
  14. So do I. It's not like she's hurting for cash or anything like that. They were together for like 2/3rds of her life. It's going to take a long time for her to heal.
  15. Y&R July 29 Ryan and Victoria get married. Guiding Light August 3 Sherry Stringfield departure. CBS entire lineup in the Top 5!
  16. GL Summer 1992 had three big cast departures w/ Kimberley Simms, Sherry Stringfield, and Beverlee McKinsey. While the last four months of 1992 weren't bad, the departures left a void in the show. Then came January 1993 Ellen Parker departure and we know the rest.
  17. CBS entire lineup in the Top 5! June 29-July 3 Guiding Light blackout. June 29 Kimberley Simms departure. The blackout was the culmination of all the groundwork laid during the Calhoun era that JFP took credit for. Sadly all the momentum would be lost not long after.
  18. You're welcome @Paul Raven has a good explanation for Riptide in this thread.
  19. Sheila crossing over is paying off for B&B. Two of four weeks CBS entire lineup in the Top 5!
  20. Charlie & Co was one season and done. CBS scheduled it Wednesday 9 pm head-to-head w/ Dynasty, then moved it to Tuesday 8:30 pm head-to-head w/ Growing Pains, then Friday 8 pm head-to-head w/ Webster. I agree it had a talented cast but CBS somehow did not have a lot of faith in it. Remember too that CBS struggled with sitcoms from 1982/83, the end of M*A*S*H and the Top 10 fallouts of The Jeffersons, Alice, and One Day at a Time, until 1989/90, when Designing Women and Murphy Brown started showing growth. The only bright spots in that era CBS had as far as sitcoms go were Kate & Allie, which started good but couldn't maintain its momentum as it got overshadowed by the big family sitcoms of that era (The Cosby Show, Family Ties, Who's the Boss, Growing Pains), and Newhart, which was very up-and-down in the ratings and it got overshadowed by the big workplace/friendship sitcoms of that era (Cheers, The Golden Girls, Night Court).
  21. A sad Y&R-related anniversary today (February 3). Five years since we lost Kristoff St. John. RIP.
  22. Y&R is off track second half of 1994 through first half of 1997. The frat party starts Summer 1994. Nick/Sharon eat the show Fall 1994-Spring 1996. The storylines hit a lull Fall 1996 through first half of 1997. Who Shot Victor was really the only bright spot for me in that era.
  23. Touched by an Angel took over Sunday 8 pm in Fall 1996, after Murder, She Wrote was cancelled.
