  1. I hail Queen Stephanie and her bitch slaps were everything. It's a shame that the classics did not give us a week of the best of Queen Stephanie and her bitch slaps.
  2. The earliest holiday classics I remember were Christmas 1997.
  3. @Soapsuds Those are the averages for the two weeks ending February 17, 1985 and February 24, 1985. Here's what happened on the soaps and two rookie hits those weeks. The Cosby Show - Vanessa's New Class (episode 18, February 14, rating 26.6, #1): Vanessa receives her first disappointing grade in school after her classmates made better science projects. Dallas - The Brothers Ewing (February 15, rating 25.0, 2nd): Miss Ellie sides with Clayton against her children. Ray and J.R. unite to fight Cliff. Sue Ellen agrees to accompany Pam to Hong Kong. Dynasty - Circumstantial Evidence (February 13, rating 23.4, 5th): Amanda spends the night with Prince Michael and then is heartbroken to learn he is engaged. Blake, Alexis, Dex, and Amanda travel to Acapulco for a conference. Krystle is disturbed when she calls Blake's hotel room and Alexis answers. Knots Landing - Rough Edges (February 14, rating 20.7, 11th): Joshua apologizes to Cathy and says he's making a lot of mistakes as he's never had a girlfriend before but he's unhappy without her. Galveston's men contact Greg and want to transfer power to him, but he refuses. Murder, She Wrote - Paint Me a Murder (episode 15, February 17, rating 20.5, 13th): A legendary artist's birthday celebration on a Mediterranean island paradise takes a turn when a murder occurs. Falcon Crest - Forsaking All Others (February 15, rating 19.4, 17th): Melissa and Cole want to wed. Lance learns Julia is alive. Lorraine considers the problems of pregnancy. Lance's trial date is set. Dallas - Shattered Dreams (February 22, rating 25.8, #1): A witness in Jenna's case is found dead. Cliff offers Jamie a job. Lucy learns Eddie has been romancing Betty. J.R. confides in Mandy. This episode is notable in that Dallas would not get another #1 episode until the season finale, and Dallas would not finish ahead of a new episode of The Cosby Show until the series finale. The Cosby Show - Clair's Case (episode 19, February 21, rating 25.1, 3rd): Cliff takes over the house chores while Clair investigates a shady mechanic. Of note is that the remaining five episodes of The Cosby Show season 1 would all finish at #1. Dynasty - The Collapse (February 20, rating 24.6, 4th): Tensions between Krystle and Blake mount as their suspicions of one another grow. Claudia regrets sleeping with Adam. Alexis hires a private detective to investigate the circumstances surrounding Jeff's marriage to Nicole. Murder, She Wrote - Tough Guys Don't Die (episode 16, February 24, rating 21.7, 11th): While doing research for her next book, Jessica hires a private detective to investigate a 25-year-old unsolved murder case. When the detective is killed, his partner Harry McGraw steps in to take his place. With Jessica's help, he tries to figure out which of the three cases his colleague was working on could contain the motive for his death. Falcon Crest - Recriminations (February 22, rating 20.2, 15th): Angela prevents Cole and Melissa's union. Lance prevents Lorraine's abortion. Richard hires Cassandra. Julia departs for a convent. Knots Landing - The Emperor's Clothes (February 21, rating 18.8, 21st): Ben's Empire Valley probe angers Gary. Joshua asserts his power. Galveston's aide threatens Laura. Karen begins to believe Valene.
  4. @tybuki It bears repeating. NBC was a mess across the board in the early 1980s. Daytime starting showing signs of life in 1983 w/ the start of supercouple Days. Primetime didn't recover until Fall 1984 when The Cosby Show premiered.
  5. This was the last Memorial Day that CBS broadcast NBA Playoffs. B&B this week Hunter Tylo debut. Y&R June 15, 1990 Tonya Lee Williams debut. B&B June 18, 1990 was rebroadcast as a holiday classic in the 2000s. Caroline asks Brooke to be there for Ridge after her death. Guiding Light this week Roger and Mindy become involved and Alan-Michael and Blake get married. Days got a boost this week. It must have been from the shipwreck storyline. I know that storyline was considered the last big action/adventure storyline of the supercouple era.
  6. Knots Landing was effectively over when Donna Mills left. Nicollette Sheridan practically ate the show during the final five seasons and those were a chore for me to get through.
  7. @j swift 1970s might have had scenes at parties in homes or entertainment venues that featured pop music in the background.
  8. Plus the cheesy couple montages set to those theme songs.
  9. Not just that, but Larsa didn't exactly grow up working class either. Her father apparently is a well-known real estate developer in Chicago, so I'd think she's got some family money too. I remember some NBA gossip sites once referring to Larsa as a Persian princess even though her family roots are in Syria (father) and Lebanon (mother). The princess reference had to have been to her family money.
  10. Hahaha, yes! You know Michael Jordan has an army of high-powered lawyers on speed dial. Larsa isn't exactly hurting for cash since she now has half of Scottie Pippen's NBA retirement fund. She better stack those coins good because no way is she getting access to any of Michael Jordan's wealth.
  11. Actually both parents. Remember Eve drugged Nikki's champagne at the wedding reception but one of the wedding guests drank the drugged champagne.
  12. @lucaslesann23 Nick and Sharon ate the show from Fall 1994 through Spring 1996, then there was a lull in the storylines from Fall 1996 through first half of 1997. Remember that this was the aftermath of OJ and Y&R's time slot rival Reilly's Days was blowing up.
  13. ED original recipe Ashley, BE Ashley, SS Ashley, ED return Ashley feel like four different characters and not the same character. I've pointed out before that I thought Bill Bell lost interest in the Abbotts when Y&R was off track (Fall 1994 through first half of 1997). I wonder though if he started losing interest in the Abbotts earlier than that, maybe around 1987. This overlaps w/ Cricket eating the show, Ed Scott becoming EP, the big three recasts, and Traci role on the show being reduced (BM was on-and-off it seemed from 1987-1995).
  14. Y&R this week Victoria Rowell debut (May 7) and Marguerite Ray (RIP) last episode (May 9). Y&R this week Veronica Redd debut (May 15) and Kimberlin Brown debut (May 16).
  15. Victoria has been pregnant 5 times I think. Eve died in infancy. Miscarried Brad's child. Reed was a who's the daddy storyline. Brad was at one point thought to be the father. AH was pregnant IRL when Victoria was pregnant w/ Reed. Miscarried Billy's child. Katie was another who's the daddy storyline. Stitch was at one point thought to be the father.
  16. It's been 25 years since baby Eve death and I haven't seen her death episodes since they originally aired. I remember there was a memorial service but I don't remember if Victoria actually saw baby Eve before her death.
  17. Thanks @JoeCool. From the annual ratings, One Life to Live starts dropping in 1989/90.
  18. Colleen Zenk and J. Eddie Peck are 5 years apart in age. No way is she playing his mother.
  19. @Soapsuds As the World Turns should gain ground in May and June since One Life to Live appears to be tanking. There was a week in summer 1990 where As the World Turns was 2nd and some weeks that summer they were 3rd.
  20. Second half of 1987 was a mess across the board because of Iran-Contra and Nielsen people meters.
  21. Y&R April 1990 George Rawlins murder and Katherine/Marge storylines were coming to an end. One Life to Live is tanking. Was Andrea Evans departure in April 1990? Days got a boost this week. Was this the week that Peter Reckell and Kristian Alfonso returned? B&B this week Caroline learns of her illness.
  22. We saw this episode during the classics, Victor reunites with Victoria and Nicholas then reveals he's alive to Jack.

  24. In a YT video I linked to earlier in this thread of classic film influences on the primetime soaps, one of the influences for Falcon Crest was Wall Street for Gregory Harrison storyline in the final season. I think she was a mashup of the Daryl Hannah character from Wall Street and The Sound of Music Baroness Elsa Schraeder.
  25. I think you're right. It disappoints me that Robert Calhoun era GL was so low-rated. I don't believe that the tail end of supercouple Days was a better show than Robert Calhoun era GL. SOD named Andy alcoholism best storyline and Bob/Kim/Susan best triangle in the Best of 1990 issue. The write-ups are here.
