Y&R: Old Articles
Dorothy McGuire was of the same generation (born 1916) and her post-Y&R roles were primetime guest star and made for TV movies. Dorothy acted until 1990 and she passed away in 2001. Hahaha, that's funny. Susan Flannery took all the no talents back to acting school. John McCook had to step up his game opposite her. Not just that, but John McCook is a Lead Actor Emmy winner. No way would he have won if he was competing in the 1980s against the likes of Larry Bryggman or in the 1990s against the likes of Michael Zaslow. In the 1980s Tom Selleck was the hotness of CBS primetime. Susan Flannery is five years older than John McCook. The age difference wasn't that apparent in the Bill Bell years. James Storm was Neil Fenmore and Bill Spencer Senior. I don't think Bill Bell intended for Bill Spencer Senior to be B&B's villain but his initial characterization comes across as a more villainous version of Stuart Brooks. Seeing Stephanie and Bill Senior in scenes together, he was more her equal I thought.

KT Stevens had a career ranging from Golden Age Hollywood to theater to primetime television to daytime television, but post-Y&R she didn't act much and she lived until 1994. From what I've seen of Vanessa, KT Stevens could have worked on one of primetime soaps but it wasn't meant to be. Thanks for the info. Hahaha, that's funny.

Hahaha, that's funny. Between Y&R and B&B, John McCook made the guest star rounds on the Aaron Spelling hit factory (The Love Boat, Dynasty, Hotel); Magnum, P.I.; and Murder, She Wrote, but I don't think any of his characters were soap opera actors. You're welcome. I wasn't alive for all of Vanessa's run but after seeing the 1981 classic she was in, I was hoping we'd see more of her during the classics but we didn't. In that 1981 episode, Vanessa stole the show from Victor and that's no small feat.

Knots Landing
Even if Knots Landing continued past 1993, it would have been killed in 1994/95 by ER.

Dallas Discussion Thread
Donna Reed came on when Dallas got glamorous and corporate to compete with Dynasty and her styling reflected that of a wealthy Texas oil family matriarch. Barbara Bel Geddes styling reflected Miss Ellie's roots as a rancher's daughter.

Y&R: Josh Griffith steps down as executive producer
I think most of us are either watching out of habit or hate watching at this point.

Won't be celebrating until JG is gone from Y&R for good.

Falcon Crest
Season 1 was a good start that built the foundation. The resolution to Carlo Agretti murder felt like a cop out. I think Richard Channing intro as the new villain in season 2 was exactly what Falcon Crest needed to reach the next level. Angela/Richard first meeting was for me the pivotal moment that set everything in motion for the rest of the series. Falcon Crest peak was Lana Turner first episode until the end of the war crimes storyline. When I watched Falcon Crest, I spotted a good amount of soap elements.

Dallas Discussion Thread
From what I've read online and seen in interviews, Victoria Principal was close with Jim Davis so I can see why she thought of the Jock years as the best years. Not long after Dallas got glamorous and corporate in response to Dynasty blowing up.

Dallas Discussion Thread
Dallas tanked in the aftermath of Bobby car accident. Venturing into international intrigue didn't work. By the end of the season Dallas lost CBS highest-rated scripted program to Murder, She Wrote. Larry Hagman got less big and bad when Angela Lansbury savagely knocked him off the throne at CBS.
