IOW, clobbered by Oprah. I wonder how long the Lifetime reruns lasted and if they broadcast any episodes past the initial five seasons.

Ratings from the 80's
1984 Y&R is fully cemented in the Top 3. February 1984 will have Victor rescuing Nikki from Rick Daros. I read somewhere the beach scenes were filmed in the Los Angeles area at Portuguese Bend Cove Beach.

Ratings from the 80's
The 1980s was the decade of the villain. So many shows introduced their show-defining villains that decade. 1980: James Stenbeck (As the World Turns), Victor Newman (Y&R) 1982: Stefano DiMera (Days) 1983: Adam Chandler (All My Children), Carl Hutchins (Another World) 1985: Victor Kiriakis (Days) If any are missing, please feel free to add to the list.

Some big events to look forward to Y&R: Katherine facelift, Victor and Nikki wedding, Victor enters the Abbott orbit with the Mergeron takeover storyline. As the World Turns: Elizabeth Hubbard arrival. GL: Beverlee McKinsey arrival. Santa Barbara debut. Loving moves to 12:30 pm ET and Ryan's Hope moves to noon ET. The Edge of Night finale.

Ratings from the 80's
B&B second-highest rated soap debut despite being head-to-head with the second halves of All My Children and supercouple Days. Card Sharks CBS's highest-rated game show debut. Allegedly Mark Goodson demanded CBS give Card Sharks the lead in to The Price is Right otherwise he’d take both shows to another network. Wordplay; Win, Lose, or Draw; Classic Concentration, Bargain Hunters all premiered post-Oprah, so clearances were going to be an issue. It will be interesting to see how clearances dropped post-Oprah on network game shows not named The Price is Right. Two key dates: Oprah went national September 8, 1986. CBS returned 4 pm ET to affiliates on September 29, 1986 and they were the last network to do so.

CBS Daytime
Remember too that CBS on the whole was a mess in the mid-1990s. Fall 1994 loss of NFL broadcasting rights which cost them several established affiliates in major media markets. 1995 sale to Westinghouse and Les Moonves arrives.

Bo/Hope wedding was week of May 20-24, 1985. I'm sure there were other big events that week but I haven't found any recaps.

Ratings from the 80's
@AbcNbc247 Fans of supercouple era Days that I know split that era into the Bo/Hope years (1983-1987) and the Steve/Kayla years (1987-1990). We know Steve/Kayla 1988 wedding got Days to #1 over Y&R. It will be interesting to see where Bo/Hope 1985 wedding ranks. When it comes to 1980s soap couples based on ratings impact and soap press coverage, I'd say the top five in date order were Luke/Laura, Victor/Nikki, Bo/Hope, Cruz/Eden, Steve/Kayla.

CBS Daytime
CBS had a 3 1/2 hour soap block from February 4, 1980-September 18, 2009. Which of the line ups was the favorite here? February 4, 1980-June 5, 1981: Search for Tomorrow, Y&R, As the World Turns, Guiding Light June 8, 1981-March 26, 1982: Y&R, As the World Turns, Search for Tomorrow, Guiding Light March 29, 1982-March 20, 1987: Y&R, As the World Turns, Capitol, Guiding Light March 23, 1987-September 18, 2009: Y&R, B&B, As the World Turns, Guiding Light For me the March 23, 1987-September 18, 2009 line up defines CBS daytime.

Y&R: Old Articles
EB and MTS presenting at the SOD Awards in January 1990 (their segment starts at 1:03:08) The 6th Annual Soap Opera Awards - Dixie Carter, Terry Lester : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive EB's reaction to the cheering crowd gives me life. MTS seems annoyed by it all LOL. Hopefully the full SOD Awards from January 1989 surfaces soon.

Murder, She Wrote
You're welcome. I recall three episodes that could have been homages to other CBS dramas: A Very Good Year for Murder (season 4), Northern Explosion (season 10), Crimson Harvest (season 11).

Ratings from the 80's
Loving was head-to-head with the second half of The Price is Right. Ryan's Hope was head-to-head with the first half of Y&R which was blowing up in 1983. Neither ABC show had a chance against the CBS powerhouses.

One Life to Live was fortunate to be hammocked between All My Children and General Hospital. It's the daytime equivalent of a time slot hit.

Murder, She Wrote
You're welcome. It was sad. I felt so bad for her. Angela carried CBS primetime on her back through some pretty awful years from the late 1980s to the mid-1990s, and it was terrible the way she was treated at the end after all she did for CBS. Murder, She Wrote and Angela deserved to have a proper farewell for the final season instead of being sabotaged. Les Moonves will forever be on my s--- list for the sabotage of Murder, She Wrote.
