  1. Levy was Mallet's partner too. I'm one of the few who liked Cutter, I guess. I remember being shocked at his murder. Hal, Margo and Jack were great. I miss them. I keep forgetting to ask---when Rick leaves to do his community service (after helping Phillip fake his death), do they say where?
  2. Mind blown Part Deux---Tom Tammi played Jack Kiley on GL who nearly rapes Vanessa in '92.
  3. *imagines Vanessa Chamberlain struggling to send Matt's cement speckled, grease encrusted jeans and wife-beaters to the dry cleaners* Now that I think about it, Y&R never had a strong cop presence either. Carl Williams and Brock Peters' characters were cops in the 80's, but I think Paul was always a PI. ATWT's cops might have gone the way of the dodo too, if Margo and Hal hadn't been such a consistent presence over the last 20+ years of the show.
  4. I never would've considered the connection between the rise of primetime cop shows and having fulltime cops on soaps. I could understand why in a 30 minute format, with smaller casts. I can't believe it was a shortage of crime...lol.
  5. Was Rusty Shayne the first full-time cop character GL had? I know GL had been historically focused on the hospital, and Mike was a lawyer. Lt Wyatt's a staple at least through the '80's, but he's recurring, we don't learn anything about his personal life. It just seems odd to me, but then again, I couldn't tell you a full-time cop from ATWT either before the '80's when they made Margo one.
  6. Should be the 11/2/89 episode. Gives me hope other episode not up on youtube will pop up. I wonder what Roger's doing now. He was a very dedicated soap historian.
  7. I'm not sure it's trying to capture the Survivor zeitgeist as much as desperately trying to invigorate Lily and showcase Byrne.
  8. Slick--your dedication to this astounds me! Get well soon!
  9. Yes. there was a time I was on atwt.com all day long. I know the agreement to make those collections ended rather abruptly. And honestly I probably wouldn't have been interested in the GL collections at the time. I'm just surprised there aren't more. I'd kill now to have the week of Quint and Nola's wedding, or the end of the Diane Ballard murder, or early Ross/Vanessa stuff on dvd. Maybe GL was a little harder to do collections because of the music. I am astounded by how much background music episodes have on (at least in the late 80's-early 90s) . Maybe it's my imagination, but it seems to have a lot more than ATWT did. ugh...the Shayne invasion.

  11. Apparently not. I remember reading in an interview that he liked names that began with the hard "K" sound, ie, Cal, Connor, Kirk, Caleb, Carolyn Crawford and probably a dozen others. I remember the confusion when Terry Lester's character had a butler named Graham, was dating Emily, who constantly called Ellen "Gram" in scenes. And he didn't avoid using actor's names either. In the late 80's/early 90's, there was Scott DeFrietas, Scott Bryce (drifting in and out) and Scott Holmes, and he went and named Lisa's long lost son---SCOTT. It must have made calling the cast to the stage hell.
  12. We did not understand the talent we had back in the day.
  13. Today is Jordan Clarke's birthday!
  14. who's the lady six seconds in? She looks like Caroline McWilliams.
  15. I recognize about 5 people...Sara, Adam, Bert, Ed and Mike.
  16. LOL...y'know I got the Jack/Carly collection. I suppose. Vanessa did have a talent for rubbing people the wrong way. Tony and Nola were close, so I suppose that was a factor as well.
  17. Two questions: 1. Did SoapClassics only release 5 dvd collections? They didn't do any couple focused ones? 2. Is there like a "ground zero" moment for Vanessa and Nola's rivalry, or is it just because Vanessa disliked anything that took Henry's attention away from her? (or really people in general until Billy showed up, but I digress...) I know that Nola got blamed when Vanessa (trying to put an end to Tony's interest in Hillary) left a note for Hillary's boyfriend about her staying at Tony's, which ends up ruining Stacey's christening. But I don't think I've ever seen Nola confront Vanessa directly about it. Or even found it in the recaps.
  18. I get that it's all volunteer effort, honest. But if someone provides corroborating evidence... LOL...I was honestly sorting through German episodes and recaps, trying to find Vanessa ratting out her bestie. It's not like it would've been beyond her at the time. LOL.
  19. Maybe they could arranged a phone call scene with Ed or Vanessa, if everyone had been so inclined, given Lisa's schedule at the time. I just think the lack of scenes between them (Ellen and Lisa) would've made it weird for me. Like Richard Van Vleet Ed's mourning Bert comes off as hollow. Oh, tell me about it. (ie soapcentral's histories...) it's one thing to completely FUBAR Trish's history (which might be understandable given the brief amount of time she was on the show and that it had to be written long after it happened). It's another to make stupid revisions based on one statement by a character. About once a year I send an email protesting the insistence that Jack Snyder's "real" name is Jacob, simply because Katie pulled a "J" name out of a hat and declared it as an "honor" to Jack. 13 years and not ONE character ever called Jack anything other than Jack. Not through six marriages, naming a kidnapped child he thought was his first born son "Jack Snyder Jr", a funeral, or Emma occasionally trying to knock some sense into his bone-headed decisions. But Katie opens her big mouth....RME.
  20. I think Ross mentions having called Mike who was in Switzerland at a conference with Hope. Ed told him to tell them not to rush back. I think in Ed's mind, the plans were made, the Reardons had gathered, and those who wanted to could mourn Maureen any way they wanted. I'm supposed P&G could've worked something out for Lisa, but there again, you've got the issue of her and Ellen Parker never having any scenes together. And while I'm not exactly sure how big a character Berjer played on AW, it surely had to be less appearances than Lisa was pulling on ATWT in '93. Just a quick check--in January 93, Iva is pregnant with John's child. Which also must mean they are knee-deep in the Aaron story. While I don't recall if Holly was shipped off to watch over Barbara (while her daughter is in a year long coma, IIRC), I tend to believe it simply because boards were up at the time and histories were being archived as they happened.
  21. The Reardons return was off-screen because the actors were busy. Lisa was on ATWT, Harley and Greg Beecroft were out in Hollywood. They had never even had scenes with Ellen Parker. The only Reardons who had were Chelsea (and KdP had either started OLTL or was close to it) and Bea. It wouldn't have paid to have a bunch of recasts on for a day or two to mourn Mo. While it seemed like a cop out, at least the writers gave lip service to why we weren't seeing them.
  22. Peter Lewis (Reardon) Son of Bridget and Hart Jessup; adopted by Nadine and Billy Lewis, but returned him to Bridget Joseph Phillips 1993-99 That is incorrect. Peter was adopted by Billy and Vanessa after he divorced Nadine. Nadine passed him off as her natural child, but never took any steps to legally adopt him from Bridget.
  23. Thanks. I remember Bridget actually thought they were having an affair the year before it happened, and had a crying jag when she found out they didn't. I'm really surprised Roger never found out. Roger seemed to have a nose for those things.
  24. Who is the annoucer in the 80's? It's not Dan Region, who did ATWT for years. I thought Dan was credited in the ATWT credits, but I don't see anyone on GL's. Nevermind--found it Alan Berns 1969- 1997 Martin Bookspan 1997-2009
  25. Did Trish and Alan really have sex? I know he's trying to set her up as his next mistress, while he's still legally married to Hope. Trish is kinda/sorta dating Mike, and Alan gives her a bracelet for her "good work" at Spaulding. She clearly has the feels for him, but doesn't want people to think she sleeping her way to the top. Alan arranges for her to work on Ross' campaign, and after Henry's heart attack, Vanessa worms her way back into Spaulding, taking the VP job that Trish was expecting when she returned to Spaulding and that Billy talked his way out of, getting Alan to buy out his contract for $300K. SOC says they did, but Trish's bio is all screwed up. They have her having an affair with Alan in 1981 and Vanessa telling Hope. Trish wasn't getting involved with Alan until 1983. And does anyone have the dates of Quint and Nola's wedding or Phillip/Rick/Beth's graduation? Someone on youtube dated the wedding as 6/24, but I'm trying to back track Billy and Vanessa's relationship, but the German episode 1075 corresponds to 6/20.
