Santa Barbara Discussion Thread
I saw an episode of Perry Mason from 1960 with Charles Bateman (CC #3) and he was good! I wonder what happened on Santa Barbara. What was it about the role of CC that caused otherwise solid actors to forget how to act? Peter Mark Richman (the best CC at projecting menace, but he still had some rough moments), Paul Burke (the overall worst CC), Charles Bateman..

I'm going to miss the bro scenes of Nathan and Dante playing inept supercops. Rocco was good in the acting department today, but I didn't think Britt was.. Britt and Rocco look weird together. She considers him her son? The actress is not selling it. I wonder what the actress thinks, having a "son" that tall and old at her age. Sadly, I found Emma and Gio to be boring. Somebody needs an edge there; they are so vanilla.

There is such a big gap between Ruby described on paper and Ruby seen on screen. If you read things like Ruby was a former madam who scheduled dates for her niece, you'd think she was much more sinister and evil than she really was on screen. Ruby is an example of an actor turning a potentially evil character into a character with a heart of gold with her performance, you forget they had any evil in them.

I'm not really sure that grown up Lucky with JJ in the role can ever really work as a character, given how dark they made Luke and how peripheral they made Laura. The happy family we saw JJ grow up in was a total lie. They should have killed off Lucky for real in 1999 or never recast, bringing back JJ's Lucky in 2009 with no history of how his character had been demeaned from 2000-2009. Or never bring back JJ and stay with the demeaned recast. I don't think Ethan ever really worked as a character either. He was rendered superfluous once JJ came back as Lucky. I feel like his whole stint was about Luke telling Ethan how cool he was, but we never really saw it. Maybe we'll finally see it this time? Ethan has no vets to hide behind now.

It's hilarious how they keep upgrading the brick wall set. First it was only bricks, then they hung a sign, and now it's full of graffiti and piping. I hope they are not straining the budget 🤣

The Willow vs Jacinda stuff would have worked better with a stronger actor in the Jacinda role. I noticed they had Jacinda mention spending time in Australia in Friday's episode. I guess that means she was involved with Ethan and that we'll be getting a Michael/Jacinda/Ethan/Kristina mess. Like they have to make Jacinda more important on the canvas.. Ethan has put on a little weight. Not having any vets around to prop up his character anymore (namely Luke and Holly), I wonder how this run will go.

ARTICLE: ‘NBC News Daily’ Soars In Key Demos, ‘General Hospital’ Up Among Viewers – RATINGS
NBC will never bring back a soap if their daily news show is doing acceptable ratings for them. The state of NBC daytime is sad. It's just all news, all the time, which at the end of the day turns out to be just shilling for other entertainment shows.

I guess we've figured out one of Frank's tricks for saving on the budget: pairing contract characters with non-contract recurring players. The writing rarely masks how out of nowhere these pairings are. There are rare times when the chemistry can overcome, but not usually.

BTG: Renewed for Seasons 3 and 4
Great news! It's hard to create a brand new soap from nothing. They put in the time, and their hard work is paying off!

Brooklyn and Chase both flaming out and destroying their lives through bad choices would be highly satisfying -- so of course the producers are not going to be doing that..

Willow method of blackmailing Nina doesn't make much sense. For her to use it, wouldn't that mean Drew would have to come out of it, and isn't that the last thing Willow wants? Or are we supposed to appreciate that Willow is not exactly thinking things through here? While Willow was good, I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with Nina's reaction to Willow's confession and the blackmail. Maybe Nina could have conveyed a little more horror? She could have been subtle about it. I'm not sure if Cynthia was stepping up there.

I think by 2003, PC was shot 6 months in advance and they were committed to a total separation between it and GH. Shows how much had changed at ABC with the coming of Fons in 2002. He just didn't care. When PC ended, nothing was brought over to GH. Some of the stuff PC introduced in its early years with the doctors and hospital might have been valuable to bring over to GH, but again they didn't care and PC was forgotten. But again, Lynn has such a rich history with the show. I don't understand why they don't try to build on it by giving her a family or something. Seems like a really wasted opportunity.

GH: April 2026 Discussion Thread
It's crazy to realize that Lynn was the lead vet/ star of her own soap, the GH spin-off Port Charles. I wonder if there was any blow back from Port Charles's failure that kept Lynn off of GH for a decade. Or was Lynn's being off GH when PC ended just the work of Jill Faren Phelps and her hating the older actresses? Jill did send Bobbie and Felicia packing. I guess if Lynn hadn't done the spin-off and stayed with GH, she probably would have been written off GH too during that time, thanks to Jill.

GH: April 2026 Discussion Thread
I always found the Lucy/Felicia scenes of the mid 90s to be interesting. Felicia was Lucy's first female friend, and Lynn always played those scenes with a subtle lesbian subtext that Felicia would usually resist but sometimes play into. That might be something interesting to explore on the show today, a Felicia/Lucy relationship, give the vets something new to do. Undoubtedly though, the producers wouldn't be interested, or they'd play it as a joke, without much sensitivity, and play it once every 6 months or so.

Maybe they can celebrate Lynn's 40th anniversary on the show by stop treating her character as a joke and giving her a story, maybe a daughter or young niece to interact with? I think her definitive pairing was with Scott. She was with Kevin because Scott had left the show in late 1993. The show always saw her as comic relief, and I think Scott fit better into that than Kevin. Scott and Lucy of the early 90s was kind of a substitute for Scott and Heather of the early 80s though; both were scheming, humorous pairings.

They showed none of Jacinda singing! What a tease! If the producers were really in love with her, I think they would have shown it! I'm not really seeing that much of a difference in Nathan's performance. He's just being a little more direct and assertive. Not much of a stretch of acting muscle by any means.

So they decided to have a car crash just to have a car crash? They needed another twist and the creative juices were running a little low this week? I think there are 23 characters in today episode! To be honest, even though there are 23 characters on, not one of them is all that interesting, nor could any one of them carry the show. Goes to show how poorly character is done on Frank's GH.

I think there were 18 characters on today's show, yet it was still boring as hell. It takes a special kind of producer to pull that off... Quantity is not quality

Sorry to say, I've felt Anna and Maxie have been burned out for a long time. It might be best to just give them happy endings and bring in new characters with the traits they used to have. The show is long overdue bringing in a daughter for Lucy, who should get involved with Michael, driving Tracy nuts.

GH: April 2026 Discussion Thread
Today's episode was so boring. Hilarious at how so much happened off camera, Danny's fight, Laura's press conference, Marco's funeral, etc; it was starting to feel like an episode of Beyond the Gates. Maybe GH should have done Beyond the Gates one better and had the whole episode take place off camera, canning it.

GH: April 2026 Discussion Thread
Kai and Trina have been incredibly dumbed down the last few shows. To have them misspeak in front of Willow several times, and then just casually talk about her in her office and have her overhear is so lame. For a show full of twists, I'd prefer to see them go with that it is the real Nathan forced to go deep undercover to bring down all the bad guys. I think this would be a better choice for the actor's skill set and place on canvas. The writers need to write to the actor's strengths more. When they have them go out of their wheelhouse, it ain't happening. Case in point is Sidwell. His histrionics were hilariously bad. His reaction should have been something the actor could play.

GH: March 2026 Discussion Thread
Kind of disappointing if they're just going to make Nathan another flunkie of Sidwell 's. Wasn't he supposed to be the big bad, the one actually running everything? I would have preferred to just let the character be Nathan.
