  1. Agree with the above. Dinah and Jonathan were breaths of fresh air. Sure they chewed some scenery but their often passionate performances gave the show sparks of life during the last years. While I was indifferent towards Otalia, CC turned in solid work and made it click with viewers. I was so excited when Phillip returned and I thought his return was actually written well. Plus Phillip chucked Grady off a cliff (IIRC?) which I'm sure was also a bright spot for many of us GL fans. They also humanized Edward somewhat giving him a dead daughter and IIRC a grandchild that Marina adopted. AW's final half year had some seeds for potential. Felicia in a quirky storyline with new Beau Sergei which would've fit well in 80s AW. Cass in a front-burner storyline with Lover Lila and her ex/baby daddy Matthew. The Lumina ball was intriguing but that Jordan stark plot was weird, but would've also probably fit in 80s AW. Carl's return with his intentions questioned, whether he was reformed or went back to his villainous 80s ways. I recall Josie and Gary being the show's last supercouple-esque pairing. Paulina's newly found daughter Remy should've later been paired with a SORAS'd Steven Frame.
  2. Absolutely. He could've just "patched" the show with more recast but reinventing the show was a brilliant move. Especially in this case when it was the show creator doing it in a thought out manner.
  3. Not saying Ron is great, but who would be a good replacement. Y&R also needs a new writer like yesterday. The two shows should just swap HWs 😆. I'm still surprised they never thought of revisiting the Mary Jo plot or give her a grown kid to stir up stuff.
  4. GL and AW strong with friendships. GH and AW strongest with humor and adventure. DAYS also excelled at adventure. Y&R and ATWT were pretty good at workplace drama. GL excelled at workplace drama during the late 80s and early 90s with Spaulding. Lewis Oil the Journal and WSPR. Can't comment on the other ABC soaps. Also Y&R was particularly good with suspense and Psycho maniacs: David Kimble, Sheila, Michael stalking Cricket, Mary Jo Mason. Part of that goes for the more Gothic, melodramatic tone/feel that Y&R had back in the day.
  5. GL during the final months was the Shayne Lewis recast. After five or so attempts they finally had a take on the character that clicked with audiences. Bill and Lizzie where another bright spot even if there stories could've been better. Same thing with Daniel Cosgrove as Chris during the final months of ATWT as he brought that Bill Lewis energy to the role. Made us forget about that sinister Dylan Bruce version of the character.
  6. Same thing with GL and the Bauers. Phillip had three kids before Rick had one. Plus by the mid 2000s Phillip's eldest child was driving story while Rick's eldest child Jude was young and seldom seen. Also Mike could've remarried and have children off screen conceived in the 80s. That's if the writers gave a darn, which they didn't.
  7. Y&R has been a snoozefest since JG took over. If he wasn't replaced last year I don't see him being dropped anytime soon. Sony/CBS satisfied with mediocrity as long as the ratings are ahead of the others.
  8. RR was so campy as Alan, I doubt he'd be much better as Mike.
  9. Good: Y&R: Brittany, Raul, JT, MacKenzie, Billy, Colleen GL: 4 Musketeers: Phillip, Beth, Rick and Melinda ATWT: Gwen, Will, Casey, Allison Bad GL: Drew, Jesse Blue, Max, Michelle. GL: Daisy, Ashley, Zach, Grady, Rafe
  10. In theory 90 minutes could work for a soap but you'd need 90 minutes worth of characters and story and not 60 minutes worth stretched out to 90 minutes. For instance if you merged y&r with b&b you would just sprinkle in the b&b stuff during the 90 minute run time.
  11. With a little better writing, Maggie on Days could fill that role. Maybe Jennifer if the shows still on in ten years. A lot of Katherine bashing of late. First as her portrayal as a business power player then as a matriarch. Guess some people hated to see her evolve at all from. Just an observation, I don't have "a horse in the race." I still say Abuella Santos could've been positioned as Bert 2.0
  12. Why didn't NBC expand The Doctors to an hour before expanding AW a second time?
  13. Ed and Maureen at the Bauer cabin. Earning EP the EMMY award. GL. https://youtu.be/YdVyRcNpQUE Phillip finding out that Justin, not Alan was his father and that basically the whole town knew. "I never had a father. I never did." GL. https://youtu.be/xP_OhiW3Or4
  14. The nerve of Dr. Nate who thinks he knows better about business than... I dunno... experienced business people!
  15. Days D+. Just disappointing. Y/R F. Nothing ever happens B/B F. Brad Bell GH C. Don't watch it,however the recaps make it sound adequate.
  16. Marlena and Brady Tripp and Nicole Rafe and Allie Abe and Chantel Roman and Paulina
  17. Are they necessarilly wrong though? 😉 I know b&b only have like four or five people that really drive storyline Maybe they meant compared to before.
  18. Source? I believe you but I still like to see where inside dirt originates. Thanks Ashland and Diane may click well together, but do we really want Dianne sucked back into Newman politics? Dwight should be shady character, keeping up Esther's horrible taste in men. Maybe get Kevin or Chloe shot or harmed.
  19. Never got into them, they always just seemed like rely good friends. Never saw any romantic characters, also the writers wrote it that way to not agitate the older viewers perhaps. It is CBS, and seniors love CBS.
  20. Love the first one, she also looked and seemed more Irish than the others. She's gorgeous and reminds me of AW's Julie Osburn (Kathleen) who I crushed on as a kid and was devastated when she was written off. Did not care for the other two AT ALL.
  21. I'd still love to see Evan revealed as the child of Marlena and Orpheus. See Marlena be the mother of a real monster. See them try to humanize him like Ben. 😆 Seems very believable that she COULD'VE just said that to get a rise out of Abby. Gwen was leaving her alone, but it was Abby who went out of her way to expose Gwen in a matter that had nothing to do with her. Whether Gwen killed Laura on purpose, it wouldn't surprise me if they try to keep it ambiguous.
  22. Here's another one. Did anyone really "follow the search"? In other words was the (small) NBC SFT audience, mainly NBC loyalists as opposed to migrated CBS viewers?
  23. I'd rather jo and stu be at the start of the intro, being senior cast members, definitely not lost in the middle. For example,, Bob, Kim and Nancy usually were the first shown in the 1999 ATWT intro. Then you have a modern fan fave like Lilly appear last. That's how it should be done. First and last spots being the important people.
  24. As a non-viewer, I always got the impression that it was all about Erica, like Reva on GL. SL being on magazine covers and name dropped in pop culture venues like the Regis Philbin show.
  25. Why didn't NBC expand The Doctors, 2-3pm after Days and AW expanded to one hour? You think it would've been a safer option than expanding AW to 90 minutes.
