  1. Like Y&R when they had the rotating Faiths. One would leave to film a movie then come back and the other one would film a movie.
  2. I hate to say that those two have chemistry and I'm looking forward to the fling. Sami eventually battling a sister over a man again.
  3. 12:30 et is a death slot unless Y&R. Always thought it was a brilliant programming move for y&r to straddle the 12 and 1pm hours. Plus at 1:30 the other networks are mid-show. Another network should've followed, strengthen the 12:30 slot. Best timeslot would be 3pm. GH had great success in that slot and GL had the slot for years. Also Santa Barbara had a steady growth rate during its first few years. Kids coming home to their moms watching and at some point they are likely to get invested. Thats how I fell in love with GL, it was background noise as a child but became a part of life.
  4. Y&R. Ashland GH. Felicia- always loved that character. Days. EJ, Belle, Nicole
  5. GL 1979: Marland comes on. and will go on to introduce several soon to be GL staples. 1983: Pam Long comes on, develops/expands the Lewis clan. Reva. Basically sets the stage for the rest of the show's run. 1984: The phasing out of the Bauers begins in full force. GL will never be the same as the newer characters continue their dominance on the show. 1989. Roger Thorpe returns. 70s characters Roger and Holly immediately click with the almost completely different cast. 1993. Killing off Maureen. I personally had no problem with it and found it well done. Poignant soap deaths with lasting impact are few and far between. 1998. Clone Saga and the Santos crime family. The following year (or two?) would be the infamous San Cristobel crew would be introduced. 2003. After a strong six-months under interim writers, tbe whole show is "blown-up" by the incoming John Conboy. Despite some glimmers of hope in late 2004 and 2005 the show is basically circling the drain. 2008. Peapeck, basically hospice care. GL is clearly dying and you knew the end was just a matter of time.
  6. Hard to argue with that list even if I wasn't a viewer of all of them. I've watched plenty of classic GH to fall in love with its legacy. I would rank Days a little higher, behind ATWT.
  7. GL: 1980-85. Marland thru 1st Long era. In-between was a transitional period, but I'd include it. AW: 1985-87. Gary Tomlin thru Margarette DePriest. GH: 1981-1986. Bid adventure, big romance. Memorable characters and couples you wanted to root for.
  8. GL just couldn't keep its momentum going for more than a half decade. 1980-85, 90-97, 2002-04 and finally 04-06. Objectively I would say: 1970s: Days of Our Lives, with Bill Bell generating momentum and honing his signature style. Young and Restless as runner-up. 1980s: General Hospital. Fantastic blend of romance and adventure. A formula that most others would try to emulate. I gather 80s Days (and mid-80s AW) came the closest to. 1990s. Young and the Restless started the decade really strong with the Sheila and Phyllis stuff and Jack leaving Victor for dead. GH would also be a contender which is amazing cause it was a much different tone than it was in the 80s or 2000s as it was more grounded with Labine's refocus on (GASP!) the hospital. 2000s. I heard that One Life to Live was excellent during this decade so I'll give it to them. I'd say As the World Turns with Chris Goutman was actually the best until sometime around '06 or so when the wheels started to come off. B&B was also kinda strong during this decade, I'm sad to say. 2010s. General Hospital with nods to the Ice Princess. Frank and company tried to revisit the big adventure era the best they could with modern financial realities. 2020s. Days of Our Lives are actually trying while Y&R is basically ASMR at this point.
  9. AW: Rachel ATWT: Lisa then Carly GL: Reva, like it or not 😆 Y&R: Mrs Chancellor (as she was always referred to in my household), Victor Newman. Days: Marlena/Sami GH: Luke and Laura, then Sonny AMC: Erica B&B: Brooke OLTL: Vicki
  10. Ron Raines Alan was a mustache twirling clown. CB portrayed the role with such class. Even Daniel Pillon(?) was better in the role than RR, so of course RR was in the role the longest! i knew the show's birthday was this month, the show would've turned 85 this coming Tuesday. SAD.
  11. victoria Konefal Nadia Bjorlin Marci Miller Martha Madison Mishael Morgan
  12. YES YES YES! GL was "My Soap" and seeing "Josh" on tv again is awesome even though I know he will be wasted on y&r.
  13. Belle's boring, don't know what Sean sees in her. #TeamJan
  14. Best for them to start after Sonni/Solita.
  15. AW John Consadinecas Reginald Love. Should've had a longer run.
  16. I think it was before, his GH stint was the Summer of '85. I'm guessing his character could've easily have been redeemed ala Sean if the character took off. I could see a Preston/Holly pairing long term if ES didn't leave the show that fall. He was written out abruptly after kidnapping Holly.
  17. My earliest memories of The Guiding Light were of Nola and later Quint. Planted the seeds of my love for both GL and the genre overall. Was so ecstatic when she returned to GL in the 90s and I'm just glad she returned at all. RIP.
  18. NO! That's terrible, Nola was one of my faves during my impressionable early years.
  19. Tina Sloan: gil rogers, justin deas, peter simon Maureen Garrett: michael zaslow, justin deas, jerry ver dorn, jordan clarke, peter simon, mart Hulswit
  20. GL had structural problems, they couldve survived Maureen if they had a better foundation which they didnt. That one story was captivating and didn't sink GL, if anything it was the lack of follow through and planning.
  21. Based on what I've seen lately. GH- B Watched some episodes on Hulu and it seemed pretty solid. The Nina/Sonny post-amnesia stuff is classic soap. Days- C+ Lackluster execution overall. Y/R- D- seems like nothing ever happens under JG. B/B- F. Second verse, same as the first: TRASH.
  22. Agreed. Same thing with Michael Baldwin. Kevin being another one, if they didn't link him with Michael he gave Lilly VD, trying to kill Colleen and torching Gina's. Almost twenty years later and he's still around. Henry on ATWT. What was initially a villain-underling dayplayer-type role to Katie was fleshed out, lasted about a decade and even was made a Stenbeck. Lillian on GL, with the 90s when Beth wasn't there. She had the affair with Ed to keep her relevant initially, then stayed around as a "talk-to" for Alex. Also, after Beth "died" in the 80s she could've easily have faded away like Bea Reardon did around the same time frame.
  23. Edge of Night had a cult storyline ala Jim Jones but had to change it to a serial killer. Also I think GH had an action plot that had to be nixed due to 9/11.
