  1. Since they all seem to be afflicted with Peter Pan Syndrome, how about "The Lost Boys & Girls"?
  2. And up to seven game network game shows.

  5. I guess adding B&B sometime between late 1989-late 1991 inspired KGGM, the CBS in Albuquerque, to shake things up. Of note: all of the network programming is accounted for in '91, while the network version of Wheel of Fortune apparently didn't air (stopped airing?) in '89. 10 a.m.: From Y&R to ATWT 11 a.m.: From ATWT to Designing Women and Family Feud 12 p.m.: From news and FF to news and TPIR 1 p.m.: From TPIR to TPIR's second half and B&B 2 p.m.: GL, both times 3 p.m.: From FF's syndicated version and Love Connection to Y&R
  6. 7. Did Eileen specify a year? I know I initially asked thought of 1991 (when Jenny, Dominique and Julia would have been available), but GH could also have wanted Eileen in December 1988 for Katherine Delafield.
  8. It's stuff like that which made me want to smack JER with a big ol' crucifix. T.C. on PASSIONS used to get sanctimonious in that way, too, but in a way that wasn't really called upon. At least Sr. Mary Moira wasn't really someone you'd take seriously. Or Sami, when Franco died.
  9. Don saw something he wasn't supposed to while at the mailbox and ended up in the Witness Protection Program ...
  10. Something I didn't know: Hillary Edson, later to play Eve, auditioned in 1983 for the role of Mindy.
  11. @j swift, I'd like to take you for a rousing evening at the Cock-N-Bull Steakhouse and Lounge ... Boy, they still are pushing Brad Maule (still supposedly on his way out) something fierce. He had the beautiful voice and the power to hush up the audience and backstage talent at the Heart Fund benefit. How odd that only Kin Shriner (now single!) is the only one to have his costume mentioned. I'm glad to know Grant Show was having bicoastal fun, with a girl in California and closer to work/home in NYC, Tasia Valenza. Time to put on our thinking caps: which "flaccid and colorless" DAYS actresses could Jon-Michael Reed be referring to? I almost thought Reed was going for the big guns, Deidre Hall and Gloria Loring, since they're mentioned right after the choice line, but I'm betting he was maybe thinking of younger castmembers. George Reinholt "wouldn't mind doing another soap." I wonder if any of the remaining New York shows -- ATWT, GL, RH, LOV, AMC, SFT -- ever considered him or took an attitude of life's too short for that kind of drama. Casting that went the distance: Tom Elpin, incoming as Jake on AW. TIL that Pam Blair and Martin Short were (are?) friends. I wonder if they knew each other from theater circles BITD? And, sadly, daytime's first (?) AIDS death. RIP Dennis Parker.
  12. Looking again at that photo of SSH, I notice that she's doing the old lady hunch forward. You know, if the wardrobe wasn't enough, I guess they really want to sell that this woman is clearly not a Millennial.
  13. "I'm gonna blow you ... across the room!" *bad timing for a pause there, Patty*
  14. It's funny you mentioned this, @JarrodFiresofLove, because prior to the interruption of "new" episodes, I had been thinking about how many more preemptions THE DOCTORS would have from 1980-82. I'm amused that NBC seemed to stagger its holiday preemptions in the '80s. They alternated if new episodes aired on Thanksgiving*, always aired on Christmas** and always took New Year's Day or therabouts off. *Annual Thanksgiving preemptions of DAYS were common in the '90s. **In later years, SANTA BARBARA would take both Thanksgiving (1988-1992) and Christmas (1990-1992) off in addition to New Year's Day.
  15. I've said it before, but I have to imagine audiences were turning the channel to AMC in droves.
  16. It varied. Some preemptions were daylong, others affected only the later two soaps (and sometimes only SB). According to Jason47's site, these were the times DOOL was preempted when SEARCH was on NBC. Thu. 11/24/83 NFL FOOTBALL: PITTSBURGH VS. DETROIT (Thanksgiving) Mon. 1/2/84 TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE & FIESTA BOWL: OHIO ST. VS. PITTSBURGH (New Year's) Tue. 8/21/84 GERALDINE FERRARO PRESS CONFERENCE ABOUT FINANCES Tue. 1/1/85 TOURNAMENT OF ROSES PARADE & FIESTA BOWL: MIAMI VS. NEBRASKA (New Year's) Tue. 1/28/86 CHALLENGER SPACE SHUTTLE EXPLOSION Fri. 7/4/86 WIMBLEDON TENNIS SEMIFINALS The Another World Homepage doesn't have listings for every day, but using the site/Google News, and cross-referencing with the DAYS and SANTA BARBARA sites, I confirmed preemptions for: Thursday, Nov. 24, 1983 (Thanksgiving) Monday, Jan. 2, 1984 (New Year's) (The Ferraro conference on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1984 reportedly lasted between 1-2 hours. I'm unsure if it began at 12 or 1 p.m.) Monday, Jan. 1, 1985 (New Year's) Monday, Jan. 21, 1985 (Reagan) Thursday, July 4, 1985 (Wimbledon) Friday, July 5, 1985 (Wimbledon) Thursday, Nov. 28, 1985 (Thanksgiving) Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1986 (New Year's) Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1986 (Challenger) Thursday, July 3, 1986 (for Wimbledon) Friday, July 4, 1986 (Wimbledon) (Possibly Monday, Dec. 8, for Iran Contra Hearings) According to the SANTA BARBARA site, there were preemptions: Thursday, Nov. 22, 1984 (Thanksgiving) Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1985 (New Year's) Monday, Jan. 21, 1985 (Reagan) Thursday, July 4, 1985 (Wimbledon) Friday, July 5, 1985 (Wimbledon) Wednesday, Oct. 9, 1985 (Baseball playoffs) Monday, Oct. 14, 1985 (Baseball playoffs) Wednesday, Oct. 16, 1985 (Baseball playoffs) Thursday, Nov. 28, 1985 (Thanksgiving) Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1986 (New Year's) Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1986 (Challenger) Thursday, July 3, 1986 (Wimbledon) Friday, July 4, 1986 (Wimbledon) Thursday, July 17, 1986 (Daytime Emmys) Thursday, Nov. 27, 1986 (Thanksgiving) Monday, Dec. 8, 1986 (Iran Contra Hearings) Looking at all these dates, I see SEARCH had scheduled/likely preemptions on Thursday, Nov. 24, 1983 (Thanksgiving) Monday, Jan. 2, 1984 (New Year's) (Possibly on Tuesday, Aug. 21, 1984) Tuesday, Jan. 1, 1985 (New Year's) Monday, Jan. 21, 1985 (Reagan) Thursday, Nov. 28, 1985 (Thanksgiving) Wednesday, Jan. 1, 1986 (New Year's) Tuesday, Jan. 28, 1986 (Challenger) (Possibly on Friday, July 4, 1986) Of Note: Only ABC aired soaps on Thanksgiving 1983, "New Year's" 1984, New Year's 1985, Thanksgiving 1985 and New Year's 1986.
  17. Excellent points, @j swift! I suspect GH probably leads, what with the number of short-term or dayplayer doctor characters in addition to the regulars, but DOOL's had its share of doctors over the past 55+ years.
  18. I felt the same way when I saw Catch Me If You Can. Frank Abagnale, Jr. was lucky he didn't hit with a whole bunch of malpractice suits!
  19. Let it also be noted that these stories were told on Celebrity Big Brother and Watch What Happens Live, which seem to revel in the nastier, the better.
  20. I'm now imagining if rather than SSH, it was Denise who played Joanna Manning on Y&R.
  21. Quick rundown of what happened to Anderson Manufacturing, courtesy of Tune in Tomorrow (and @JAS0N47's site): April 1982: Linda told Alex she wouldn't let the DiMeras get Melissa's share of Anderson Manufacturing. Phyllis considered selling her share of Anderson Manufacturing to Stefano. May 1982: Stefano bought Phyllis' half of Anderson Manufacturing. June 1982: Mickey introduced Melissa to Tony, her Anderson Mfg. partner. To keep tabs on Melissa's interests, Chris took a plant manager job at Anderson Mfg. October 1983: Alex bought up Anderson Manufacturing stock. With help from lady executive Kate, Alex tricked Tony into selling Anderson Manufacturing. May 1984: Max made an offer to buy Alex's shares of Anderson Mfg. December 1984: Linda and Alex paid Speed's father, Paul, who blew up Anderson Manufacturing. March 1985: Under the threat of arrest, Alex stopped an insurance claim he had made after Anderson Manufacturing burned down. April 1985: Alex hired Speed, who had tried to blackmail Linda over the torching of Anderson Manufacturing. As for Alex, July 1987: Anjelica tricked Alex into investing in a bad real estate deal that later caused him to lose everything he owns. Alex was sent off to jail after he set his hotel on fire in hopes of collecting the insurance money. Talking about Chris becoming a lawyer reminds me of the supposed Calliope line, "Chris is a great lawyer. We've never seen him in court, but he's great." June 1985: Ivy's skeptical that Pete's share of Chris' new disco, Jump, is going to make Pete rich. December 1985: Chris sold Shenanigans to Pete and Tod, who's out of jail. May 1986: Chris passed his bar exams. January 1987: Chris is intrigued by lady district attorney, Leslie Landman. March 1987: Leslie and Chris talked about becoming partners in a law firm. Sorry for the info. dump, but hopefully that answered a few questions.
  22. Oh, what fun! 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. Boy, that does look a lot like Susan Sullivan, but ... 10. Yes, it's exposition-heavy, but I have a soft spot for this premiere ad for B&B. I wish I could find ads from DOOL's "Gutsy. Glamorous." response campaign. And whoops, sorry, @j swift, I realized I didn't choose an illustrated ad.
  23. Thursday, Sept. 8, 1988, to be precise.
  24. That's the same conclusion I reached today. I also ended up rereading the summaries of the Herbert saga from October-December 1987. Turns out the story was at least partially about Edward's pride. He/Alan and Herbert/Quentin (with help from Sean) had a bet where whomever could turn $50 million into $1 billion first was the undisputed financial leader of the Qs and won it all. Frankly, if anyone was willing to gamble their money like that, they deserved whatever they'd get. As for the story itself, it meandered all over the place, ended with little consequences (Autumn ended up giving Alan and Quentin $50 million each) and is really most notable for introducing Cheryl (who was Herbert's broker). Finally, Herbert is Edward's cousin and Celia's grandfather. This means that Jimmy Lee would be ... Your grandfather's cousin's son is your Father's or Mother's second cousin. Out of of courtesy, deference, good manners & politeness you'd refer to your parent's cousin as your Uncle, - being of the same generation as your parents, but technically he'd be your second cousin once removed, which means 1 generation apart.
