GH: Actor Leaving
Of course, why recast a vital younger character who is central to a core family when you can hold the role for somnambulant Chad when he's ready to return for a buck fifty? Idiotic.

I'd be all for Jax and Lois at this point too. I don't think it's that weird after so long, and he did come on the show with an eye for her. But without Ingo, again I don't necessarily see a point in having him here. Having a strong and interesting love interest for Rena is the only compelling reason I can think of to have a recast Jax, actually lol

Well, Valentini and the network had to be bullied to keep her on contract, twice. But I am glad she is here.

"Longstanding cast members" doesn't really count for much at Frank's GH, where they often refuse to cut anyone. Willow and Sasha have been here for over six years - that's insane. Chad worked hard for a long time, then stopped a long time ago. I have been wanting a rest for the character and recast for a long time, but I'll settle for a recast. I am willing to bet everyone has.

GH: Actor Leaving
My suspicion is Frank offered him a take it or leave it pay cut which has so often happened with exits here and OLTL, but I could be way off.

Robert Adamson is equally weak. They need a strong performer in that role. Chad used to be quite good but has been checked out for almost a decade.

Doctor Who
Never sure how I feel about colorization of DW. I still need to see the Daleks edit. Cutting The War Games specifically down to 90 minutes seems egregious - I'm sure it has plenty of fat, but it's not the same as cutting down a classic Terry Nation runaround. I'd at least give it 120 minutes. And we'll see how the 'new regeneration' comes off.

Exactly. Ater all the lies and philandering secrets already layered onto him by that point, it was not off-brand.

Those dreams were not that early at all. Sloan died in early '95 IIRC and Viki's alters broke out very quickly after in February, I believe. The Victor/Dorian case revisit had been going for at least a year if not longer, but they had been slowly having it percolate since Sloan's arrival in '92 because of his fascination with Victor Lord. I can't recall exactly when it hit high gear but it was only after Robin Strasser came back in spring(?) '93, maybe 6-12 months after that. Erika and Agnes Nixon can think what they like, but when I started watching as a kid and they began broaching the issue of Victor, who it was clear Viki idolized, I knew something was off from the jump in how everyone talked about this dead man and this was long before any dreams or the like. They were very clever and subtle initially, but I had watched Twin Peaks with my mother so I was primed to be suspicious. I never spoke it aloud but I was not shocked when the truth came out, only shocked that they'd gone there. It was inevitable to me.

That's what I thought, yes.

I mean, he wasn't a dead man walking for the duration of his time on the show. People like Sloan have lived with their conditions for years. And as you say, he was in remission for some time. It was not, in '93 or '94 a situation where people were like checking the clock waiting for Sloan to die, at least not IIRC. Had Clint Ritchie stayed healthy and other factors not intervened they might have sped up the timetable on Sloan's demise as was allegedly planned, but we really have no idea.

LOL, maybe I'll look it up in the Wayback Machine. They did have some horny-ass scenes though. I think we saw some of their mostly naked wedding night or honeymoon.

Oh God. I don't remember that.

Sure, but that was also a very different time. Almost no soap had anything like that. Having Billy was a huge step in '92-'93. Yeah, the Ben and Blondie fanbase and the Viki/Clint fans despised each other at the time. I was never a part of that but I remember some real psychos in the mix. Nonetheless, while B&B had a vocal fanbase they were not a supercouple and a lot of the audience just hated all the Rappadavidsons period.

Ben did turn out to be Asa's son, which JFP clearly thought would cement him forever. Except he had little to no relationship with the Buchanans following the reveal (who he'd spent the bulk of his run actively despising) despite a lot of lip service from Asa and even the visiting Clint Ritchie once Ben was comatose, and he also lasted barely two years with minimal story after the truth came out. I don't believe Sloan was dying at the time. They knew he was ill but it didn't become terminal til much later, IIRC. The original plan (supposedly, depending on who you ask) may have been to kill Sloan regardless and have Clint win the triangle, if not for Clint Ritchie having a serious accident IRL which kept him offscreen for a considerable period starting in the summer of '93. This supposedly led to Viki and Sloan being extended and becoming more part of the firmament. But that's a lot of he said/she said BTS, and I can't be sure what's true. I like and have always liked elements of the Sloan saga and Roy Thinnes, and I think restoring Viki's primacy as an individual was important. But I do think Clint would always be the better man and I've always understood why people hated it. I think it would've been more interesting in the long run to see the Gottlieb/Malone regime reckon with restoring Viki and Clint, which for various reasons they never got the chance to do as they allegedly planned.

Re-upping this post because hoo boy, at this point in late summer '91 he can't leave soon enough for me. I always admired NW as a very different but strong Max when I saw him in scattered eps here and there in the past (particularly with Fiona), and maybe it's just the gross Lee Ann story that is making me react like this but he is so extra, effete and hammy all the time even in casual scenes that it feels eyepopping and exhausting, and him putting the moves on Lee Ann is so skeevy. You can see why they became determined to get someone not trying so hard on-camera nonstop. Very curious how contemporary viewers felt, though I'd always heard reaction to him was fairly positive.
