Merritt Yohnka Obituary April 1, 1958 - September 16, 2020 Merritt Russell Yohnka, Resident of California, April 1, 1958 September 16, 2020. It is with great sadness that the family of Merritt Russell Yohnka announces his passing as he was surrounded by his loving family on the morning of Wednesday, September 16 after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, relative, and friend who was a gifted athlete and talented stunt coordinator who loved helping everyone. Merritt was born on April 1, 1958 in Chebanse, Illinois. He was raised by his mother Marilyn Yohnka, and father Norm Yohnka. He graduated from Central High School where he lettered in 3 sports - baseball, basketball and track, and he was MVP in all 3 sports. He went to Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois where he joined Delta Sigma Phi. His dream was to come to Hollywood to be a stuntman, and with drive, heart and determination, Merritt made his dream come true. Merritt came to Los Angeles in the early 1980s. In 1982 he was hired to work at Knott's Berry Farm as the Star in Knott's Berry Farm's "Wild West Stunt Show". A hard worker, he also took a job as a security guard at nights. "Days of Our Lives" came to Knott's Berry Farm and filmed an episode with Merritt playing the Star of "The Wagon Camp Stunt Show" where he did a scene with Josh Taylor. He was later given a recurring role as Joey on "Days of Our Lives" from 1984 to 1992. Merritt quickly made many friends and supporters and trained hard while pursing the stunt business. He did stunts on numerous TV shows and films in the 1980s and early 1990s like "Renegade", "Trespass", "Rapid Fire", "Judgement Night", and "Sommersby". His first stunt coordinating jobs included "Streets" in 1990, "Poison Ivy" in 1992 and "Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story" in 1993. He proudly became a member of the International Stunt Association in 1991. He met his wife, Cindy, in 1992 when they were cast as husband and wife on a car commercial. It was love at first sight, and they enjoyed a week long shoot in Lone Pine falling in love. Merritt's career continued to grow doing stunts in films like "Blown Away", "Wild Bill", "Star Trek: Generations" and was the stunt coordinator on shows like "Vanishing Son" and "Trading Mom" with Sissy Spacek where he played the part of school professor Mr. Leeby. His next big career move came as the stunt coordinator on the Television Show "Nash Bridges" with Don Johnson that ran 6 seasons from 1996 to 2001. Though he filmed during the week in San Francisco, he came home every weekend to be with his wife, Cindy. They were married on June 1, 1996. Their beautiful daughter, Emily, was born in 1999 midway through his run on Nash Bridges, and their handsome twins, Garrett and Steven, were born in 2006. Merritt loved the business and the stunt community, and actors found in Merritt a hard-working, dedicated person, that was very caring and down to earth. In the early 2000s he did stunts on films like "Inspector Gadget", "The Bachelor", "Gone in 60 Seconds", "Pearl Harbor", "Minority Report" and "Transformers" and was stunt coordinator on films like "The Courtyard", "Legion", "Trigger Effect", "This Christmas", "Spiderman", and "Fantastic Four". Merritt wanted to stay close to home to raise his family and was blessed to stunt coordinate on numerous TV shows over 20 years which allowed him to stay in the Los Angeles area. The shows included "Alias" 3 seasons, "MDs" 2 seasons, "Sleeper Cell" 2 seasons, "The Shield" 7 seasons, "Private Practice" 5 seasons, "Rizzoli and Isles" 5 seasons "About a Boy" 2 seasons, "Pretty Little Liars" 7 seasons," Chuck" 5 seasons, and most recently 2 seasons of "Lucifer". He was nominated for several awards and was honored when he received the Emmy Awards for stunt coordination on the television series "Chuck" for 2008 and 2009. He was so surprised to win again the second year, he took his daughter Emily's hand and brought her up on stage with him to enjoy the moment. Something she will remember forever. It was the first time anyone had received the award two years in row. He is a member of the DGA and enjoyed Second Unit Directing on several of his shows. Merritt loved working with all the talented stunt performers and amazing actors creating action scenes that were exciting and safe. They loved working with him and always had incredible things to say about him. He remained a hometown boy at heart which endeared so many people to him. During his career he never forgot about his family and friends back home in Chebanse, Illinois, who he loved and enjoyed visiting often. He also enjoyed supporting and helping the farm community back home. Starting out as a stuntman, he enjoyed the opportunity to do stunts throughout his career. He can be seen playing stunt roles in many films and television shows, and a few are "Real Bullets", "Trading Mom", "Friends with Benefits", "The Italian Job" and a comical part that appeared in the out takes of "Men In Black II". He felt so blessed to have a career that spanned 4 decades doing something he really enjoyed with people he so respected and loved. As successful as Merritt was, he was an incredibly loving and devoted husband and father who loved being with his family. They enjoyed boating, jet skiing, fishing, relaxing on the river and just being together. His family meant everything to him and he is everything to them. He is dearly missed. Merritt is survived by his loving wife of 24 years, Cindy, Sherwood Forest; devoted children Emily, Steven, and Garrett, Sherwood Forest, his mother Marilyn Yohnka, of Chebanse and father Norman Yohnka, of Danforth, Siblings Rodney Siebring deceased (Diane) of Ashkum, Randy Siebring (Karen) of Malcomb, Bruce Siebring (Claudia) of Ashkum, Brad Yohnka (Peggy) of Monticello, Brent Siebring (Christine) of Bloomington, Mother-in law Gloria Cunningham (Bill deceased), Sister-in-law Cathy Aita (Bob), Brother-in-law Bruce Cunningham (Stacey), and numerous relatives and friends. TPTB at ABC need to take note of the phrase "classic". This was just an all around great episode. Long undervalued characters like Brock, Gina, Amy, The Jackson Brothers, Andy, Mary and Paul (back before DD screwed himself with social media) getting full scenes with a nice mix at the ranch/Victor- Ashley. Not to mention especially how much this Victoria was adorable!. Meanwhile ABC airs the episode highlighting a character most long time fans cheered to see go. This was classic Y&R. Right down to Danny's voice returning and psycho Sean standing between Lauren and Paul! Morris' character hates the Donovan family, and they have yet to bring on Eve's mother. Season 3 episode five introduced her brother, Elijah (Jeff Pierre). Their dynamic is interesting as well. She also had a (prickly) cousin introduced in the episode with Phil Morris (season 3 episode 8). I do find it curous that Damian's (Amy's son) perceived father was named Jackson. Is Josh Griffith that lazy that he didn't realize Amy was torn between two Jackson brothers BITD, or just didn't care?

Bless young Brooklyn Silzer's heart for her years in the role. The time for Emma to grow up and become an adult character has come. Now is the time for a rest of Joss (maybe a two week trip to spend time with Jax) while Emma is established. Has Gio got the chops to rise tothe occasion? time will tell. The BLQ/Dante parentage that's hanging in the air... <coughs>

Fuller July 1945 - 5/24/2012 (Her Death) -- 6 Children (see Obit) Kathryn Fuller Obituary FULLER, Kathryn Virginia Kathryn Fuller of La Cañada Flintridge, actress and member of the Screen Actors Guild (SAGAFTRA) - and Actors' Equity Association (AEA)-who was affectionately known to her family as "America's Favorite Actress"-passed away peacefully at home on May 24, 2012, due to natural causes. She was 89. Services and interment were conducted May 31, 2012, at Mountain View Chapel in Altadena. Kathryn was born on June 5, 1922, in Delaware, Ohio to Gilbert and Ruth Eagon. She earned a degree in Theatre Arts from Ohio Wesleyan University. There, during the Second World War, she met her future husband, Mark H. Fuller, who was then enrolled in the U.S. Navy V-12 Unit at Ohio Wesleyan. They were married in July, 1945, at Christ Church in New York City. Following the War, Kathryn and Mark resided in California; they lived in Altadena, Arcadia, South Pasadena, and then for 52 years in La Cañada Flintridge. Kathryn began a professional acting career with performances at the Pasadena Playhouse, Theatre Americana (Altadena), and Glendale Centre Theatre. Eventually she would make many appearances on television, in films and on stage. She was a gifted actress, director and writer-but Kathryn will also be remembered as a loving wife and mother, with four sons and two daughters. She managed a busy household that often included extended family members. For over 40 years, Kathryn and her family were active members of Holliston United Methodist Church; she taught pre-school at Holliston's Merryland Nursery School. She volunteered in her community, reading books at local schools and directing theater for non-profits-such as Foothill Service Club for The Blind, where she directed a play cast entirely with blind actors. In over 50 years of work, Kathryn influenced the careers of fellow actors and touched the hearts of many. In 1962, she was a co-founder of Studio Theatre Playhouse in Los Angeles, which today remains a venue for new theatrical talent. As a playwright, she authored: "Lightning in the South" (from the life of Mary Todd Lincoln) and co-authored "Lutie" (a comedic romp set in New Orleans). Both premiered at Glendale Centre Theatre. Her many performances with The Colony at Studio Theatre Playhouse included: Terrence Shank's adaptation of John Steinbeck's "The Grapes of Wrath", Eugene O'Neill's "Long Day's Journey into Night," and the world stage premier of Ray Bradbury's "The Martian Chronicles." When "The Grapes of Wrath" was picked up by the Louisville Regional Equity Theatre, Kathryn was cast in the featured role of "Mama" for an extended run. On television, Kathryn's recurring roles included Mabel Cummings in "Days of Our Lives," Mrs. Shellenback on "Happy Days," and Mrs. McGregor on "Valerie's Family." Numerous other appearances included "Laverne & Shirley," "Little House on the Prairie," "Highway to Heaven," "Remington Steele," and "Newhart". Her favorite motion picture role was that of Faye Kennedy in "Yes, Georgio" co-starring with Luciano Pavarotti. Kathryn is preceded in death by her parents and her sister Sue Jacobs. She is survived by her husband Mark; sister Meredith Rode and brother Richard Eagon; children, Mike (Tina), Elin Alto (John), Scott (Susanne), Tim (Gail), Babette Coverdale (John) and Matt (Shyrlee), eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. I'm working on Jill Jacobson. A heads up for the longtime members -- I was unaware, but Terry Johnson, AKA Danfling passed away back in June. June 6th 2024. Terry loved his soaps, and though he referred to the West Coast soaps as The serials rather than soaps, he was qiuite knowledgable. He shared a lot here on SON, and I felt he should get an Honorary Mention here. Terry P. Johnson, age 68, passed away on June 6, 2024. Born on December 15, 1955,to Elzena Kitchens Johnson and Daniel Johnson of Terry, Mississippi, he earned degrees in music/organ performance from William Carey University and Mississippi College. He dedicated his life to education and music, working as a schoolteacher, librarian, and church organist, and served as the Dean of the Jackson Organ Guild. He most recently served as organist for the All Saints Episcopal Church. Johnson was deeply committed to activism and equality, serving on the Hinds County Democratic Executive Committee for 32 years. He was elected to the Board of Aldermen in Terry in 2017, and had been reelected to the Mississippi Democratic Party executive board and Electoral College. He volunteered in numerous elections. He also served on the boards of the Brain Injury Association of Mississippi and the Jackson- Hinds Library System. He is survived by his sister, Carolyn J. Clements, several nephews, nieces, and a host of family and friends. Just wasn't sure if this had been shared...
