February 09, 2000 Arthur Seelen, the actor turned store owner whose Drama Book Shop in Manhattan is ground zero for those in search of plays and theatrical references, died Feb. 7 after an illness. Mr. Seelen was 76 and died in his home in Manhattan, according a book store manager. The shop he bought 42 years ago, and ran with his wife, Rozanne, continues to sell plays, anthologies, biographies and more, and is regarded by many as the first source to go to when seeking theatre-related tomes. Playwrights and theatre writers often appeared for readings or book release events at the cluttered, busy second-floor shop at 723 Seventh Avenue, between 48th and 49th streets. The shop has the most extensive theatre-related retail inventory in the city, according to a manager. Mr. Seelen, who was known to attend the theatre several times a month with his wife, who survives him, was friendly with such industry people as actor Hal Holbrook and playwrights Robert Anderson and Michael Weller, who were no strangers to the shop. As an actor, the Brooklyn-born Mr. Seelen (originally Seelenfreund) appeared in an Ohio State University production of Watch on the Rhine (where he was a graduate student 1945-46) and made his New York debut as Sebastien DuBois in Deputy of Paris at the Henry Street Playhouse. He performed in a pre-Broadway tryout of The Circus of Dr. Lao in Chicago in 1958 and understudied George C. Scott (and went on a few times) in Broadway's The Wall in 1960. He also performed in many stock stagings, from western New York to New Hampshire, and on TV presentations in the 1940s and 1950s, once playing Dromio of Ephesus in a CBS production of The Comedy of Errors (1948). He had been a member of the Screen Actors Guild and Actors' Equity Association. At The Drama Book Shop, Mr. Seelen maintained a well-informed staff, and believed in the sort of personal service associated with boutiques of long ago. "His big thrust was not letting people leave the store without more information than they came in with," said Sasha Domnitz, a Drama Book Shop manager. "He insisted we put information in their hands...where they could find it if they couldn't find it here. He never liked us to say, 'No, that's not possible.'" The Seelens did not have children. Mr. Seelen was an uncle and great uncle. A cousin, Jerry Seelen, was a comedy writer and lyricist, according to Who's Who of the American Theatre.

I barely remember Laibson or Willmore, but I totally agree about Potter and Calhoun. They understood the P&G ways and still were able to keep the show watchable. The five I mentioned, though, were by far the most destructive.

Rather than refer to anyone as the worst EP, we can easily refer to most of GL's EPs in the measure of destruction they are responsible for. Gail Kobe drained the show of vets. Her time destroyed a lot of the continuity GL had before her. JFP was responsble for the loss of the show's moral compass/heart. Rauch destroyed the shows connection to Springfield by transferring story to San Christo - Hell. Conboy pissed away the budget. Wheeler basically was thrown in with no experience and was completely out of her depth. They all added to the destruction, and they all went out of their way to deflect the blame. Any one of them could have seen what they were doing and made some effort to right the ship, but none of them could concede they were wrong. The cast, the crew, and the fans all suffered for their vanity.

Duell's been checked out for a while. Even when he's gt juicy material (rare as it is), the passion just isn't there. 14 years is a long time in soaps to be in one role, and I'm glad he's got priorities, beards, what have you. In the meantime, too bad it's not Wallow, but...

I’m a trained actor and world champion martial artist. My latest projects include Rebel Moon, I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Seal Team & Lawmen: Bass Reeves. I was born in Denmark, one of five children. My parents owned a video rental in my home town of Skærbæk and as a little boy, I watched every single Hollywood action film I could get my hands on. I dreamed that one day I would move to America and be in the movies, like Arnold or Stallone. This dream was a longshot, but I couldn’t get it out of my mind. When I was 9, we left Denmark and I was enrolled in international school in Luxembourg, where I learned to speak 5 languages. I was a chubby kid and then a skinny kid, bullied for both, so at 15 I took an interest in bodybuilding. I competed for 5 years, eventually making my way to the IFBB Junior World Championship where I won an Award of Excellence, as well as winning multiple championships in Luxembourg, Germany and California. At 20, I was presented with the opportunity to immigrate to the United States as a fitness model. Before long, I was working with Weider Publications and became a spokesperson for Men’s Fitness and Muscle & Fitness magazines. I started auditioning for commercial work and did my first stunt training. My dream felt closer than ever. After 10 years in the business, it became all too clear to me that bodybuilding was not the healthy lifestyle that it was supposed to portray. I was diagnosed with an autoimmune disease which forced me onto another path. That path was martial arts. I learned Qigong (chi-gung) from a Chinese master. My health returned and my physical form was completely altered. I dedicated myself to the practice and eventually was blessed by my teacher to teach the art myself. Over the years, I expanded my studies and learned many styles of martial arts—Muay Thai, Boxing, Tai Chi sword, Jiu-jitsu, and the Phillipino knife and stickfighting form known as Eskrima. In 2016, under the tutelage of Grandmaster Felix Roiles, I became the Eskrima World Champion. I studied many forms of acting over the years as well, and eventually began to book work. In 2009, I received a nomination for “Best Breakout Action Star” from the AOF International Film Festival for my work in The Interview. I was able to contribute my voice to video games like Call of Duty, Medal of Honor, and Spiderman 2, and films like Marvel’s Black Widow and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. I found the more I studied, the more work I booked. I’m especially grateful for the time I’ve spent in Los Angeles learning from Aaron Speiser, John Ruskin and Gregory Berger-Sobeck. I’ve gotten to act in some truly amazing projects—Paradise City on Amazon, Fuego, Outlaw Johnny Black with Michael Jai White, Zack Snyder’s Rebel Moon, the Whitney Houston biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody, Lawmen: Bass Reeves, Seal Team and Neil LaBute’s The Money Shot at the national folk theater in Copenhagen. I attribute the greatest successes of my life to my extraordinary teachers, never giving up, and the Qigong practice I was gifted. When I’m not on set, I help people heal themselves from imbalances and chronic illnesses like Parkinson’s, autoimmune disorders, diabetes, and cancer.
