I cannot and will not watch this speech. If anyone did is this snip in context? Did he really all but say white people are here and "they" are not?? I find the setting for that speech incredibly creepy as well. I hate to admit it, but the Trumpers have managed to make Old Glory a symbol I have a negative connotation with now.

The RNC has to be the most pathetic, embarrassing thing I have ever seen in my life. To evoke an old saying, these people are not ready for prime time. Has even one serious person even taken the stage? Maybe, Nikki Haley counts. It's a low bar when you have six Trumps speaking. It just seems like they are completely lacking any kind of intellectual or professional meat at this convention. There are smart conservatives out there (unfortunately), but this time it really feels like the rats have abandoned the ship or maybe the ship has abandoned the rat. Either way.

What!? I'm glad that didn't happen. It was a total boondoggle.

^ And this guy in Walmart giving people "Covid hugs"! Ugh. WTF is wrong with people? It's sort of like that woman who coughed on the baby because the mother wouldn't wear a mask. All of these people are nut jobs. https://www.cnn.com/2020/08/23/us/walmart-man-covid-hugs-trnd/index.html

Probably not the majority of individual journalists, but it does make sense that the higher up types would. Trump brings in the money by being a continual train wreck that people can't look away from. Psychopaths gravitate to the CEO position and to journalism as well. Just sayin'. https://www.cbc.ca/doczone/m_features/psychopaths-top-10-and-bottom-10-professions

Normally, I would feel some kind of sympathy for someone who gets destroyed like this by sibling. However, since Trump is only wearing a human suit, it just doesn't matter. I'm glad at least some of the people in his family seem normal.

It's something I thought about when Bernie was in the primary. I can see why people who lived under failed socialist regimes are afraid of people like him and his followers, even though I agree with some of their ideas, I could see the dangers in their demands for ideological purity. However, the nominee is JOE BIDEN for the love of God! He is a middle of the road capitalist if there ever was one. The Republicans are not going to convince many people that he is going to turn our nation radically left, imo.

He stayed pretty quiet for a long time. I kind of figured that Obama was fed up with the American public, which in many ways did not deserve him. I'm glad he still cares enough to bring down the hammer. He doesn't owe one damn thing to Trump who has broken every convention and norm.

^ Every time I think I hate that man as much as I possible can he manages to take it to the next level. I can't wait to be rid of him, so I can just let it go. It just never even occurs to him that if you see people in distress the answer is to try to help them, not trade them in or insult them. 🤬

Good, because she has grown on me, but it is all hands on deck as far as I'm concerned. We need to get rid of that MF in chief and anyone who can't get behind that can piss off.

I don't either. I hope to live long enough to see a democratic China. Given that country's vibrant cultural past it is a terrible shame that their people are so brutally oppressed. It really disgusts me that over one billion people are living in fear of the government. Don't get me wrong, I know we have enough of our own problems to worry about, but still I find it very sad.

It's absolutely true and it's going to be one hell of a fight. The voter suppression and disinformation campaigns are already in high gear. It will never stop amazing me how much power Fox "News" has over people. Already I'm seeing people say that Harris called Biden a racist (she said the opposite) while challenging his past positions on busing. They are saying she believed his accusers. Meanwhile he never denied kissing that woman on the head and such. He even promised to do better. She never said she believed TR. She said she had the right to tell her story. Ugh. This stuff drives me nuts.

I think most large schools that open will be closed pretty quickly. Even the idiots here in Omaha had to admit defeat when a few teachers got it during before school conferences. It was actually kind of sad because there is a class cold war going on here. The superintendent was pretty devastated that the poorer kids in the Omaha Public School system would be denied in person learning. Meanwhile the children in the wealthier (generally republican, antimasker) suburbs get to go. So much about this is unfair and counter intuitive. Given the rate of infection in Omaha right now, I think OPS students are going to come out ahead.

I'm very glad you're back. This board is not the same without you. I'm hoping that as VP she can cut through it. She really would have been dragged to hell and back if she were the presidential nominee. That's not to say she shouldn't/couldn't do it. Every woman who has ever gained power had to be ambitious enough to push past the hate. Still, I'll be honest. I'm thrilled he picked a woman, but I almost wish he had picked a black man instead. At least we know it's possible to elect a black man to the highest office.

I'm actually cautiously optimistic, but when Trump was elected despite having so many sexual assault allegations against him it really opened my eyes to where women still stand in society. Obviously, black women have it even harder, but maybe this will end up being a step in the right direction. I guess we have to root for Chinese interference to combat Russian interference. It's unreal that this is where things stand.

If you click through you see the allegations against Dershowitz. Unbelievable. I always kind of respected his willingness to go to the mat to give even the worst a fair trial. This whole situation is full of corruption from the FBI, lawyers, so many people. Sadly, I think Clinton, Prince Andrew, and AD are all guilty as alleged. In the case of BC it really breaks my heart to believe he is capable of this, although weren't there rumors that he got a teenager girl pregnant back in Arkansas?

I wish John Lewis could have lived just four more months. He deserved to see Trump defeated. At least he seemed to have faith it would happen. The part about an October surprise that the media will cover without bothering to vet is spot on.
