Looks like the twitter progressives have come for the LDS because of Mitt Romney. It never seems to cross their minds how hypocritical they are. Going after a group because of the actions one person takes is bigotry even if you don't like the group. SMH.

I think Biden will certainly win the debates, but so did Hillary. Hell, so did the primary candidates he debated. What actually logical points did Trump make? He basically just stood there and called people names and that worked. I think it's possible that JB is folksy enough himself that that won't work on him.

I'm guessing it won't be quite as bad as the Handmaid's Tale, but you really don't want to be a poor woman going forward. Plus it's bad for women generally because it signals to both men and society as a whole that we don't belong to ourselves.

This is one more blow in a horrific year. All day long people have been wishing each other happy new year. Then to listen to the Rosh Hashana services tonight when I knew most of the people "there" didn't even know what had happened was especially galling to me. Just the sheer optimism some people have amazes me and I certainly do not share it, not even be for this calamity. Still, Biden winning does absolutely matter to the nation. It matters to the Muslims who can't have family visit, to the refugees who can't get in, to the women and children in camps on our border, where god alone knows what offenses against humanity are being committed. I could go on and on, but this is no time to give up.

This was on CNN's blog. Not sure I trust them to stick to it: Here is a list of four Republicans senators who have said they will oppose a vote before the election: Maine Sen. Susan Collins told the New York Times, “I think that’s too close, I really do." Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski in September said, "Fair is fair," and she would not vote to replace RBG before the election." South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham in October 2018 said, "If an opening comes in the last year of President Trump's term, and the primary process has started, we'll wait to the next election. And I've got a pretty good chance of being the Judiciary [Chairman]. Hold the tape." Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley said in July he would follow the Biden rule, "I'm just following what was established by the Biden Rule in 1986 and then emphasized by him in 1992... They set the pattern. I didn't set the pattern. But it was very legitimate that you can't have one rule for Democratic presidents and another rule for Republican presidents."

My guess is she still felt healthy enough to do her job. Who could have imagined the hell that was coming our way? If you think many people here did, go look back at this thread circa fall 2016. I remember being so sure people could not possibly be stupid or evil enough to vote in Trump.

Can that be done if we don't have the Senate? I have no idea how it works.

That was one of my first thoughts as well. I feel bad for the upcoming generation of women. I am horrified that the worst president in modern times will shape the court so profoundly. I wonder what effect this will have on climate change and the environment as well. Plus, I would almost bet he's going to pick another middle aged white man.

I think they will, but we'll see. My husband doesn't think it can be done. I know some of our friends here suffer from anxiety and depression. Please, take care of yourselves. We can and will get through this.

^ That is horrific. I pray it isn't true, but sadly it is very easy to believe. Everyone with sense knew that putting people in camps like this could only lead to evil.

I'm hopeful that our (meaning most of us on this board) long nightmare is coming to a close. This is such a dark time with the pandemic, wildfires and the frightening reality that a huge portion of our population are haters living in a completely different reality. They have been brainwashed by Fox news and the "alt right" to the point that facts don't matter. Facts simply cannot permeate the cult mentality. What does it mean when so many people can have their minds twisted by social media, Fox and the Russians? I have a hard time seeing a way out. We have to hope that having a compassionate leader in Biden and a competent one in Harris will help stem the tide of insanity. Assuming they can get the electoral votes and nothing crazy happens.

^ Lord help us. This part is so true: They are impervious to messaging, advertising or data. They aren’t just infected with conspiracy; they appear to be inoculated against reality. or this: 🙃 Frank’s eyes fill with tears as she describes what she’s found: children who are being raped and tortured so that “the cabal” can “extract their blood and drink it.” She says Trump has seized the blood on the black market as part of his fight against the cabal. “I think if Biden wins, the world is over, basically,” adds Arthur. “I would honestly try to leave the country. And if that wasn’t an option, I would probably take my children and sit in the garage and turn my car on and it would be over.” Child services need to check in on this nut case often.

^ What a horrible example of environmental racism. I found his article on Cancer Alley, which is utterly enraging. That the government has allowed the Formosa plant to go forward is despicable. https://grist.org/justice/as-coronavirus-ravages-louisiana-cancer-alley-residents-havent-given-up-the-fight-against-polluters/

^ The Trump presidency has been the light that shows us just how many roaches we are living with it. We might able to turn the switch off in November, but that doesn't mean these people are disappearing.
