  1. They already decided to give it a second season! http://insidetv.ew.com/2011/04/19/game-of-thrones-season-two-2/
  2. I thought it was really good too. Some things seemed a little rushed, but that's to be expected. Overall HBO is doing a good job and whoever is in charge of their promo department is earning his/her keep these days.
  3. I think that's understandable. If you aren't into fantasy anyway, there isn't a lot of motivation and the books are dense. I love fantasy, was an English minor, and still found the beginning difficult to get through. After the first 100 pages or so the momentum builds though.
  4. I think it's just a lazy comparison. Everyone knows who Tolkien is, so they go for the easy comparison. I've read both series, so I feel justified in saying they have little in common (size of the books being the major thing). Game Of Thrones is more about politics and sex, especially in the first 3 books. At some point, I think there will be an epic battle of evil vs. less evil, but that is no where near happening yet. Among the human players (and almost every player is human) there are few clear cut villians or heroes. If GRRM is like Tolkien at all, I'd say its in the ability to write a great, complicated, epic fantasy. The stories themselves are so different, that comparison is all but lost on me. I can't even say which I think is better. I think Tolkien was probably a better writer in the classic sense, while GRRM might be more entertaining to the masses, but that's obviously, jmo.
  5. It's nothing like "Lord of the Rings". I can't really understand why anyone makes that comparison, except that both books are well written epic fantasy. Game of Thrones is quite soapy and at least in the first several books there is little magic.
  6. I thought it was good so far. Loved it when Bran's little sister hit the bulls eye. Can't wait to see the rest.
  7. HBO is going all out to promote this show. I am so impressed with whomever is behind their marketing efforts. They even have a freaking food truck in NYC that is serving food featured on the show. http://ology.com/technology/case-you-missed-first-game-thrones-food-truck
  8. A new promo: http://io9.com/#!5773478
  9. You can watch the 10 min promo here: http://www.makinggameofthrones.com/?cmpid=ABC587
  10. Looks like HBO will be giving us a little preview soon. "Inside Game of Thrones", 15 minute program, running at 8:45 and 11:45 PM EST, Dec. 5.
  11. Well, production wraps up on December 18th. It looks like the show will premier in April from what I read on HBO's blog. You have to kind of dig to find it, so I'm not sure if it's the latest word. My guess is that GoT will be their spring show leading to the June premier of True Blood. GoT only has 10 episodes this season. I'm already worried because while I think it's going to be awesome, it looks incredibly expensive to produce from what I've read. I guess Ireland gave them some really nice tax breaks and they were able to use some sets from another show to help with the costs, so that's something.
  12. EW has a new article with pictures and such: http://www.ew.com/ew...0442931,00.html
  13. Same here, that was a really good scene. I can't believe I'm watching a show about zombies and liking it. Sure, I like Sci-fi, but zombies have never been my thing. Still, this is a pretty good show compared to almost anything on the networks. I'm thrilled it's been renewed for 13 episodes, since this first season only has 6.
  14. Thank you so much Lucid! For anyone who is on Twitter the production team is on under @GameOfThrones. They tweet behind the scenes pictures and such. I haven't been this excited about a show in ages.
  15. I'd love to know when this is coming out. I checked the HBO site, but I didn't see a date.
  16. I agree. I think if there is a second season Lenny James needs to find the main group of survivors. I've liked since Jericho.
  17. Really? I find that shocking, although she was very pretty. Maybe people could relate to her on some level as an abandoned, hurt little girl. It just never worked for me, although I find her more sympathetic this time around than last. I can only assume it's because I'm older and in the mother role myself these days. I wonder why they wrote her off. I remember being surprised when she left with Arley and never came back, given how much airtime she got. Plus it seemed like they were going to hook her up with one of "Faith's kids", but nothing ever came of that and he just disappeared. I think Jack was really a victory for Claire Labine. His transformation was so well crafted and believable. I LOVE his relationship with Mauve and the way she never gives up on him for Mary's sake. Plus the early stuff with Jack's love for Ryan and the way Mauve tricked him into admitting it was some really good, simple soap. Those were the days. Now we can barely get relationships between adult children and their parents on soaps, never mind such a rich MIL/SIL story.
  18. Umm no. She's an annoying little twit. I do think the character's on Ryan's Hope put today's poorly constructed characters to absolute shame, but Kim was always too annoying to me. That voice! The whining, screaming and wailing is just too much for me. The brings me to Jack, who I think might be the most well written character to even grace a soap. There are times when I've wanted to wring his neck, but his development is so touching. Even when I don't much like him, I have to root for him.
  19. Normally, Kim grates on me, but the scenes where she keeps referring to her baby as "Senachael" are hilarious. It probably helps that I can't stand Seneca (SP?) and think Kim is giving him everything he deserves right now. What 50 something marries an 18 year old and doesn't expect to play daddy? Surely not one who passed his psych rotation in med school.
  20. That has to be the weakest trailer ever. At least show us something. The one for Boardwalk was much better. I can't wait for that show to start.
  21. I'm excited about it, HBO has a pretty good track record. I think people who see the show before they read the books will probably be happier with it than those who read the books first. But even if the show doesn't quite live up to the books (and I'm not sure it could without a Rome like budget) We'll, see.
  22. Clearly written by someone who hasn't read the books. There's tons of magic in them.
  23. I can't believe these people still have jobs. How can you work in the media and think it's ok to say these things? At least JW showed some joy in his his skating, which can't be said for Plushenko. http://tiny.cc/JaG1T
  24. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/A_Game_of_Thrones
  25. This latest episode was good. I'm glad they focused a little more on the characters personal lives for the holiday episode.
